Great food. A little taste of France.
Classic French bistro in all respects. Food good and characteristic of the genre. Service was a bit slow, but good.
Good French food. Noisy. Neighborhood place. Reservations needed at night
Love this place! Food is always great, whether the croque monsieur at lunch or a full dinner. My friend had the veal stew and I had the pasta and both were delicious. Fun atmosphere in this French cafe.fixed price menu is very reasonable. Attentive service. One suggestion: a more extensive French wine list.
Great neighborhood spot with a variety of french inspired enticements. Good for lunch. brunch, breakfast and Dinner. Thursday night special dinnber for two with a bottle of wine $79 is a bargain.
We live in the neighborhood, very consistent quality and inviting atmosphere. Keep up the good work!
Only wish is that acoustics were improved. Super noisy everywhere & even when only 1/2 full.
Perfect spot for a rainy October afternoon. Very convivial- if a bit noisy.
It had been a few years since i had been here so I thought i'd try it again. I remember the best coq au vin I'd ever had. It was definitive down a notch. (Didn't have it this time - the waiter recommended against it - I should have known then.)
It may LOOK like a Parisien bistro but is sure doesn't ACT like one.
One ridiculous point - we ordered a bottle of red wine and he brings over white wine glasses. I asked for the proper glass and he said he didn't have any more. He seemed confused by my question. I said i don't want the wine then. He said we'd have to wait and then brought two cheap red wine glasses. Later i glanced at another table and saw they were drinking white wine out of red wine glasses.
LOL- this isn't rocket science folks.
That was just the wine.... as to the food....well, I wish I could tell you what we ordered but it was so unmemorable.
I love the ambiance so much here, I will give it one more try. Everyone can have a bad night.... but guys, seriously, spend a few hundred dollars and buy some proper wine glasses.
Always a great choice, whether we want a cozy meal for two or a place to meet friends for a lively meal. Classic bistro cuisine but never fussy. And the staff make you feel at home.
All three of us had the lamb shank, which was excellent. Being Americans, we were disappointed with the small size of the accompanying mashed potatoes, so we ordered a side of them to share. As we were preparing to leave, the most wonderful a capella voice wafted into the dining room from the bar; one of the bar patrons was singing "O Danny Boy," and it was a most beautiful rendition. Lovely New York moment.
C.d. S. Is always delicious, staff is so nice, friendly and attentive! We love it and hope they are always successful!
Our favorite local. The Osso Bucco Provençal was excellent with ratatouille and potatoes
We enjoy dining at Cafe du Soleil. We like the menu and the convenient location.
Great place to dine out and converse.
Cafe du Soleil used to be the gem of the neighborhood, now it’s very similar to those Parisian restaurants for tourist you avoid when in Paris.
I promise, they used to have the best burgers and the French fries (with garlic) were the best French fries I ever had; now burgers are tasteless and greasy and the fries are bland and soggy (definitely from frozen bag)
I’ll think twice before coming back.
Friends catching up.
Food lacked flavor in any way, way too expensive for the skill level of the chef.
Table to our left, left the restaurant upset saying she’d never be back, food was so expensive and so lacking in flavor.
We enjoyed the food and ambience as always. We wish the wine list was more specific. For instance include vineyard name location etc rather than just listing Cabernet
Great neighborhood bistro, and very good selections for brunch. When the weather is nice, and the doors are open, it is a very quiet restaurant, and easy to hold a conversation. That hasn't been my experience when the doors are closed - the acoustics then are not great then.
Cafe du Soleil is the kind of restaurant that used to proliferate in NY, and now such places are rare.
The classic bistro look and ambiance, coupled with very good bistro food (updated for the 21st century)
and careful service make it easy to understand why this place is packed most of the time. And fair pricing,
both for food and wine. Can you tell I"m a regular?
This is great neighborhood French bistro, great food, friendly service, nice ambience and great value! Always a nice experience! Many special prices, at the bar, Thursday special dinner etc. Highly recommend! U can never go wrong with the mussels! Delicious!
Food was OK as some dishes were good: merguez, mussels, chocolate mousse and some so so the salmon pate was bland and the sardines maybe not well cleaned . Service was very effective and nice. House white wine was good for a reasonable price.
Very pleasant!
The hair in the hamburger was a bummer, of course. My friend got another one right away, but the after taste lingered.
Love the restaurant. Food always good. Ambiance fun and Frenchie. Have brought several friends with us who have also enjoyed everything. Keep up the good work. See you soon!
As always, the food and ambiance were just right. It’s a real pleasure to go to a French restaurant where the waitstaff all speak French. The attention was just right. We’ll be back, again and again!
The best price fixe deal
We just love your restaurant. Food is delicious. Ambience is great. Staff always friendly. We will surely join you again soon!
We had brunch here and ordered the Breakfast Americain, the Lorraine, and the Nicoise du Soleil. The food was good overall, the waitstaff is a bit forgetful and not attention.
Used to live in the UWS near this neighborhood cafe. It was always my favorite go-to place. Good fish, great roasted chicken., marvelous French fries.
Good food. Nothing extraordinary but good enough to return to for a neighborhood meal. Friendly service. One of our party didn’t get exactly what she ordered
Went for the Bastille Day celebration which itself was great fun and busy and energetic all day! My daughter asked for the special cocktail and was told they were out of killer blanc so gave her the red which she did not like much. Our waitress later told us they were not out! The food is usually good to very good but they have raised their prices beyond the quality of the food and wine. Great for lunch and special prices fixe dinners but won’t go back for dinner otherwise
It’s always perfect. It’s one of my spots in the city. I moved to New York from Paris and it’s always just what I need.
Would recommend for lunch but dinner is way overpriced for what they offer.
Cafe du Soleil is a classic French café providing an experience hovering somewhere between visiting Paris and Provence. It also has a lively relationship with the local francophone community and a delightful menu. Service can sometimes be relaxed, bordering on slow, but is generally worth the wait.
Was surprised how fast the food arrived after we ordered. It’s no fun when service is slow but when it’s too fast it can feel rushed, like the owners want you out of the restaurant.
Overall the meal was good, but was a little let down by how rushed the service was. Also, my chilled butternut squash soup had ice chunks in it and the apple tart at the end of the meal tasted old and was pretty sad as far as a French dessert goes.
Staffs are very friendly but we had to go grab their attention when asking for things. Sitting at the table and waving didn’t help and the restaurant was empty. Beside that, Everything else was great.
Came here for breakfast with my sister when she came to town. We sat outside on a beautiful morning. She had the croque madame and I had the Parisienne omelette, both were delicious, zero complaints. Fresh food, heaping side of greens, attentive service and lovely ambience. Wonderful neighborhood spot, will be back.
