Simply the best!
The food is authentic French cuisine, with the best moules frites on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Ate outdoors in one of their igloos on a night when the temp was just under 20 degrees, and with two heaters going it was comfortably warm. The beef bourguignon was excellent. The hot toddy was hot but not very interesting, I'd expected mulled cider but I think it was just tea -- probably my fault for not asking. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Note to remember -- the burgers are enormous!
I have eaten at Cafe du Soleil for many years and have always loved it, but this time was not so great. We ate inside and there was no heat and we were freezing. I ordered mussels, and half the shells were empty. (There were a couple mussels in the bottom of the pot, but not nearly as many as there were empty shells.) There seemed to be no regular wait staff, as were were waited on by the lady who checked us in at the door, and then by people whom I think were bus boys. When I complained about so many empty mussel shells to the man clearing our table, he said nothing in response. I hope this was just a fluke and not going to happen in the future.
Our experience was very nice. Greeted warmly, seated immediately, service was prompt and professional. Food was excellent
The food was way below our expectations for French dining.
New Year's eve dinner with my wife.
We had a wonderful evening with delicious food and great service. Given that it was Monday night, it was relatively quiet and we were not rushed.
A place that you must visit ❤️❤️
We enjoyed our meal thoroughly. The waitress was delightful and the food was excellent. It was great value too. We had onion soup, lentil soup, coq au vin, beef short ribs, burger and mussels. The decor is welcoming and warm. We will definitely go back!
Love the safety precautions due to COVID. The food was delicious and the service outstanding.
A very joyful Christmas dinner!
We were seated immediately, but it took 30 mins for bread and 40 mins to take our order. The waiter was not personable or pleasant. Food was so bland.
It was an amazing evening starting from kind and polite staff to extraordinary food and wine
This was such a great place to go to. The pre fixed menu for Christmas had so many choices and the portion sizes were great! Each course came at the perfect time. Even though we had a time limit, we never felt rushed. We were even there 30 minutes more. Loved it!
Always a lovely place to enjoy a wonderful meal. I have been here many times with friends and family. It is one of my favorites.
Great ambience, food, staff and value!!! We had a lovely Christmas lunch. Thanks.
Très bon restaurant, accueil sympathique et bonne cuisine. Je le recommande
Cafe du soleil is a MUST! If you like real french food you need to visit this restaurant.
What a great place to eat at during these Covid times. Wonderful bubbles you can sit in that zip up . Warm and toasty inside them because of the heaters in each bubble. Great food, large menu.
The restaurant’s decor was delightful, service was attentive, food was good and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience except for the rather loud table next to us. Not the restaurant’s fault; some people are just totally oblivious.
Our server Alec was amazing. Food wine and drinks were perfect . The outside seating is very romantic and safe with the bubble coverings. We love this place
Really very good and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. I/we will be back!
Cold, drizzly day and the “igloos” were such a welcome and exciting experience. The food was incredible - French best.
This is going on my favorites list.
Awesome experience in our own bubble. Great place to enjoy brunch even when it’s raining
We were genuinely excited to have a very early dinner (like when the "blue hairs go!), at Cafe Du Soleil as we had an early curtain call for a concert, and had read the mostly good reviews. So it was not busy at all. Loving French bistro food as we do, but not very hungry, I highly anticipated a few French staples, escargot and Onion Soup, and my husband ordered a veal shoulder. The escargot tasted FISHY (and it's not even fish) and the mixture of butter, oil, garlic and herbs that should have been out of this world, instead was flat, with no seasoning, no garlic; I mostly tasted the butter; but not even the butter flavor was so good. The onion soup was better, but not excellent, w/few onions. The flavor was there, but it was a bit too watered down, perhaps. My husband, who was hungrier, thought he was getting a piece of veal (shoulder) but it was in fact a veal stew, which he said was flavorful, along with some rice. We had time so we opted for dessert and cafe. The chocolate Mousse was very good; the profiterole was EH at best. I didn't even finish it! They do not serve decaf espresso so that was a disappointment, but it was early enough that I had a single shot of regular espresso. OH, and I started out with a FRENCH MARTINI (vodka, chambourd, and a little pineapple juice)--it was SO awful that I sent it back. I doubt that even chambourd in there! Hello??? A FRENCH MARTINI cannot be made well in a French Bistro?? then I ordered a Lillet spritz with a topping of champagne that I also did not finish. The saving grace was that our very nice and accommodating server suggested a red wine (from CA no less!!) that was wonderful! Yay--3 things they got right. Perhaps they do the other side of the menu better---steak, fish and burgers, but c'mon.......don't call yourself a FRENCH anything if you can't get escargot and onion soup right (or a French Martini!). Disappointing; probably won't be returning any time soon, which is a shame because we really liked the ambience.
Calm peaceful setting with fast service and delicious food
We were seared as soon as we arrived. Our server was very friendly and helpful. The staff was Nice very professional and courteous . I will go back.
We had a very satisfying meal at Cafe du Soleil. I liked that they had these little bubbles (transparent plastic pods) for those who wanted to do outdoor dining. There was a heating coil attached inside these pods to provide warmth, which was clever. We dined indoors and greatly enjoyed the atmosphere. We had the merguez and sardines as our 2 appetizers and the coq au vin and North Atlantic swordfish steak and haricots verts, and the chocolate mousse for dessert . All was very delicious, portion sizes generous!
The food was not good. From the appetizer to the main course. Very disappointed. I love French cuisines. This place missed the mark. The staff is super friends and the drinks were decent.
Our dinner at Cafe du Soleil was delicious. I would give four stars only because the noise level inside the restaurant was so high we moved outside into a bubble (which was warm and quiet). My companion arrived quite late, but there was no problem. The maitre d' and waiter were very patient with us. Would definitely recommend.
Had an enjoyable unhurried dinner with friends in an outdoor heated enclosure
Love Cafe Du Soleil! Always such a pleasure dining here - drinks are great, food is fantastic, staff is attentive, and the ambience is delightful!
The experience was basically a pleasure. We enjoyed being kept warm in the pod,
which also meant that dinner wasn't noisy. The food was authentic and good. I especially liked the sardine appetizer and the tartine dessert. The sausage was an experiment and was a bit strong for my taste, and it took my husband three times asking to get ice for his water--but otherwise the service was excellent.
The escargot was not as well prepared as pre pandemic
We wanted to find a place where we could sit outdoors. This place has a very good arrangement of heated bubbles. We were by ourselves and it was very warm and comfortable despite being cold outside. The food is very good. We went for the Saturday brunch menu. Salmon crepes, eggs Benedict and quiche Lorraine were all delicious. Portions are generous too. Definitely a very good option.
I enjoyed this spot for the bubble dining seating, music, ambiance, and good service!
The ambiance was as excellent as well as the service. The waiter was very friendly. The food was delicious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It was a great experience
Thanksgiving dinner- loved the bubble!!! Very good service and food… loved the ambiance. It was expensive, but it was a prix-fixe for Thanksgiving…. Would try again on a normal day…
One of the best authentic French restaurants in New York. Family owned and operated, they have committed to the neighborhood and in many ways helped us through the pandemic better than any other business on the UWS. Putting all of this aside, the service is staunchly French bit super cordial and efficient and the food traditional and spectacularly prepared and served. Cafe de Soleil is a can’t miss dining experience
It was amazing. Incredible food and lovely service
