We enjoyed the food and ambience as always. We wish the wine list was more specific. For instance include vineyard name location etc rather than just listing Cabernet
Great neighborhood bistro, and very good selections for brunch. When the weather is nice, and the doors are open, it is a very quiet restaurant, and easy to hold a conversation. That hasn't been my experience when the doors are closed - the acoustics then are not great then.
Cafe du Soleil is the kind of restaurant that used to proliferate in NY, and now such places are rare.
The classic bistro look and ambiance, coupled with very good bistro food (updated for the 21st century)
and careful service make it easy to understand why this place is packed most of the time. And fair pricing,
both for food and wine. Can you tell I"m a regular?
This is great neighborhood French bistro, great food, friendly service, nice ambience and great value! Always a nice experience! Many special prices, at the bar, Thursday special dinner etc. Highly recommend! U can never go wrong with the mussels! Delicious!
Food was OK as some dishes were good: merguez, mussels, chocolate mousse and some so so the salmon pate was bland and the sardines maybe not well cleaned . Service was very effective and nice. House white wine was good for a reasonable price.
The hair in the hamburger was a bummer, of course. My friend got another one right away, but the after taste lingered.
Love the restaurant. Food always good. Ambiance fun and Frenchie. Have brought several friends with us who have also enjoyed everything. Keep up the good work. See you soon!
As always, the food and ambiance were just right. It’s a real pleasure to go to a French restaurant where the waitstaff all speak French. The attention was just right. We’ll be back, again and again!
The best price fixe deal
We just love your restaurant. Food is delicious. Ambience is great. Staff always friendly. We will surely join you again soon!
We had brunch here and ordered the Breakfast Americain, the Lorraine, and the Nicoise du Soleil. The food was good overall, the waitstaff is a bit forgetful and not attention.
Used to live in the UWS near this neighborhood cafe. It was always my favorite go-to place. Good fish, great roasted chicken., marvelous French fries.
Good food. Nothing extraordinary but good enough to return to for a neighborhood meal. Friendly service. One of our party didn’t get exactly what she ordered
Went for the Bastille Day celebration which itself was great fun and busy and energetic all day! My daughter asked for the special cocktail and was told they were out of killer blanc so gave her the red which she did not like much. Our waitress later told us they were not out! The food is usually good to very good but they have raised their prices beyond the quality of the food and wine. Great for lunch and special prices fixe dinners but won’t go back for dinner otherwise
It’s always perfect. It’s one of my spots in the city. I moved to New York from Paris and it’s always just what I need.
Would recommend for lunch but dinner is way overpriced for what they offer.
Cafe du Soleil is a classic French café providing an experience hovering somewhere between visiting Paris and Provence. It also has a lively relationship with the local francophone community and a delightful menu. Service can sometimes be relaxed, bordering on slow, but is generally worth the wait.
Was surprised how fast the food arrived after we ordered. It’s no fun when service is slow but when it’s too fast it can feel rushed, like the owners want you out of the restaurant.
Overall the meal was good, but was a little let down by how rushed the service was. Also, my chilled butternut squash soup had ice chunks in it and the apple tart at the end of the meal tasted old and was pretty sad as far as a French dessert goes.
Staffs are very friendly but we had to go grab their attention when asking for things. Sitting at the table and waving didn’t help and the restaurant was empty. Beside that, Everything else was great.
Came here for breakfast with my sister when she came to town. We sat outside on a beautiful morning. She had the croque madame and I had the Parisienne omelette, both were delicious, zero complaints. Fresh food, heaping side of greens, attentive service and lovely ambience. Wonderful neighborhood spot, will be back.
We love this place! Always come in for a croque monsieur/madame at lunch when we’re in the city! Yummy.... and wonderful mimosas as well. Our server was great too! Thanks...
Six of us went after work. We ordered five different steaks and one fish main. Every single steak was cooked incorrectly with most being completely raw in the middle. It was an utter disappointment and a waste of our time.
As the individual who made the reservation, I look like a fool.
Came here after eight grade graduation at my daughter’s request, a favorite hers. It did not disappoint as usual. My go-to is French Onion soup and the salmon burger. The hubs go to is a steak frites, which is perfect every time, the teen loves just about everything here!. The service is always great and they read you, if you’re in a hurry or just want to hang. We love this neighborhood gem.
Had out-of-towners here with sophisticated tastes and booked brunch. Thoroughly delightful. Loved the bowl of salad, lentils, smoked salmon topped with a perfectly poached egg. The classic eggs benedict was also a hit. Service is friendly and prompt but not pushy. We sat outside and it was noisy, but inside can be noisy also. It's NY...
Always consistent. Outstanding in every category. My wife and I LOVE it!
I took a young colleague to lunch here and it was really wonderful. The lunch menu is great - lots of options - and the food is great. Very reasonable prices for some great lunch drinks- open and airy. Wonderful
Very enjoyable spot for lunch with a friend, and The patio is dog-friendly.
We were looking forward to having a celebratory brunch after my son's graduation ceremony. I had high hopes for a nice brunch with the graduate and the 8 family and guests we were hosting. Although we arrived ahead of the noon crowd, our order was delayed. After coffees came, our food was not served for nearly an hour, and that was after we had requested to be served multiple times. It appeared that our dishes had been cooked and then put aside and forgotten or lost in the kitchen. The majority of the dishes finally arrived lukewarm or cold. One person's order was missing, and the server did not even notice until we informed him that our guest did not receive her dish. After that, it took about 10 minutes for her order to arrive. While she waited, we picked at our cold dishes, featuring runny or rubbery eggs that had suffered from sitting too long. After this lengthy ordeal, we received the check, given with no explanation or apology for the poor service. After we called over the host/manager to express our disappointment, he relented by compensating us for a small portion of the bill. Instead of offering an apology, he was defensive, stating how busy it was that day and how hard it had been for them. I say, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!
My wife and I love this place. It's not convenient to where we live now -- but our first date was here and so we come back every year on the anniversary of our first date. Year in and year out, we have a delicious meal with gracious service.
Always a pleasure eating here! Food and service wonderful!
It's a wonderful neighborhood restaurant where they really make you feel at home.
Always enjoy this restaurant very much. The only complaint is about the noise level, which is really somewhat outside their control.
Very nice ambiance, enjoyable space, and manageable noise level. My moules frites were very good, and all desserts were excellent, but both my boyfriend and my mother said their steaks were very tough.
A lovely neighborhood place for a casual lunch. A nice choice of menu items - including delicious hamburgers.
The food isdelicious and the place is lively but the noise levels horrendous. And that's a problem.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
What a great place for brunch! Lovely menu, delicious food, reasonably priced, and being able to make a reservation was a big plus for us. (The Sunday morning tradition of trying to find a place that can seat you for brunch has worn us down!) The grilled Croque sandwiches were the best. We will be back!
This is one of the place I go to frequently when I am in New York -- not far from where I used to live. It is a gem of a place; I always feel at home and welcomed.
