Have gone here many times to enjoy real french food. Was disappointed that they were out of what I planned to order (short ribs). The crepe I got instead was a little disappointing - crepe itself was too thick, in my opinion.
As always, noise level was outrageous... we usually go in nice weather and try to sit outside, but it's winter, so...
warm friendly long term happy local eatery: nice eclectic french menu with lots of salads
It was nice.
I frequently go to the Cafe and all take advantage of their Thursday night prix fixe dinners for 2. We love the vibe and the staff is great. Unfortunately the food on Thursday night was a huge disappointment and the selections were not as advertised. The watercress salad turned out to be the usual mixed field greens - which is fine- but it was swimming in too much vinaigrette. The leg of lamb advertised as gigot was actually braised and was pretty awful. The included desserts however were excellent!
Consistently good. Tasty food and Kasir (sp?) is great waiter. Dependable local spot.
We love to try new restaurants and constantly repeat those we love. We live two blocks away from this restaurant and we wanted to start the year with a nice brunch in the neighborhood. We like cafe du soleil as we have dined and celebrated many occasions before. Unfortunately, we can say the same this time. Starting from the beginning with smart comments from the lady who led us to our table, who also happened to be our waitress. Very poor attitude, from rolling eyes to barely wanting to do her job. I demand very little for what I pay for. I don't look for attention or your friendship, I just want to get what I politely ask for. If I ask for a spicy Bloody Mary, I expect just that. Instead I received a glass of plain tomato juice. When food was served no one came by to see if everything was up to cafe du soleil standards. Overall, a fast food experience as I had to get up and grab things from the bar and staff stations that were needed. Our server "Sandeep" needs to step it up entirely instead of waiting for a costumer to inquire about her name through her colleagues. I hope to return, but I'm not so sure.
An extensive French menu in a warm and inviting space. Check out the prix fixe menu, a pretty good deal early most evenings and all Sunday night.
The food was terrible
Very good French fare at reasonable prices with a lively atmosphere
The bar was crowded so the restaurant was nosier than usual. Food was its usual good and reasonably priced.
Great Sunday brunch. Food was very well prepared and service was great. It’s very busy for brunch so don’t expect a quiet meal!
A neighborhood gem
Excellent, hearty, french food for reasonable price. Classic quiche light and flaky, onion soup very good, salad nicoise with real tuna, sandwiches are good size and value. Servers are really nice and helpful.
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Wait staff are friendly and helpful. Food is authentic French and outstandingly good.
Very nice place for lunch. Food and service were good. My only complaint is that it was very noisy and heard to hear your tablemates.
The food and service are great. Too bad it is too noisy to have a conversation without shouting.
Always consistent, friendly
I love that place! Great for a date or friendly dinner. Excellent food. Great service. Price is a bit pricey but worth it.
I recommend highly.
Wonderful thanksgiving meal! Service was excellent and the food was priced appropriately. All of our servings were very large and the food was incredible !
Lovely place, French charm, delicious cuisine, friendly welcome and service. I’ll be back
This is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. For New York, it's reasonably priced. Everything is delicious. The service is impeccable. I make a reservation at Café du Soleil every time I am in NYC. The onion soup is the best I have had anywhere, and the red snapper with champagne sauce is superb.
Food was all excellent. Servers attentive ( and really do speak French!). We will definitely return next time in town!)
Great food, good Will come back. That all I have to say.
Simple menu, very french, good quality great service.
We were looking for something new and relatively inexpensive for NYC. It happened to be my birthday also. They had a sweet deal on Thursdays during the fall and winter, a 3-course meal for 2 for $79!! The food was great the desert was amazing! My roasted chicken dish was a little dry... only downfall. They wait staff were great, one of them went a little extra and put a lit candle in my desert. Such a sweet gesture.
Love the food, bar scene noise spoils the time
We have been there three times, the food, service and ambiance are very good.
Highly recommend, I will take my french friend there in the end of this month, as it feels like to be in a Paris bistro.
Though the salads were disappointing, the main courses were tasty. The 3-course prix fixe is a pretty good deal. Atmosphere is lovely and service is friendly.
Always lovely to be able to sit outside when its nice out.
Nice food, sat outside, good wine!
We love Cafe du Soleil and go once a week. Food and menu always good.
And dog friendly.
But the service is always beyond flakey.
Inconsistent. Drinks orders not arriving. Always ask twice. Memory issues with servers!
Really enjoyed a wonderful French bistro dinner on the sidewalk on a perfect summer early evening. The staff was considerate, kind and thorough in every way. Would certainly go back!
Come here often - by ourselves or when people come to visit. Never disappoints!
Go there all the time. Always good food and high value. AJ
A bit of Paris in NYC
A neighborhood favorite with great value prix fixe offers. Only drawback on this particular night was that it was exceptionally noisy!
Grand petit Bistro j'ai toujours l'impression que je suis de retour à Paris
While our French-speaking African waiter was charming and friendly, the food was mediocre at best, the room very noisy and the staff cleared plates of some diners while others had yet to finish their Saturday night get together, adding an unwelcome and indecorous intrusion into the rhythm of our dinner. The Moules or Muscles and the fish dishes were stringy and overcooked. We wish this restaurant were better -- we like the idea of it but the reality falls short.
Great service, great food, and great atmosphere
We found this restaurant from French Restaurant Week and make the reservation for lunch. When we were there, the waiter gave the general menu, which makes us really confused. We ask for the menu for French Restaurant Week, they just keep telling us to order something from the menu, which we can't find the thing that we saw from the Restaurant Week menu
