It’s Toronto at its best
Valentine’s Day
We had a fantastic time hosting our daughter's 11th birthday party for 12 guests at the Dip during a Sunday lunch hour. It was loud (but that was mostly us!). Our server was amazing - she was patient with the kids, made suggestions to the parents about portion sizes and checked in regularly to make sure everything was ok, as well as coming over quickly with paper towels when one of the guests inevitably spilled their drink. Definitely coming back and recommending to others.
Excellent pizza. Minestrone soup mediocre. Reasonable prices but this and other restaurants on College St really hit you if you order a bottle of wine.
Friendly neighbourhood Italian fare with solid pasta or pizza dishes.
Just average
Great location, service and ambience! Pasta is good too.
I started going to the Dip in the mid 1980s, then some zealous staff started pressuring and rushing customers out in the late 1990s early 2000s after it was written up in a U.S. magazine and suddenly became popular. I stopped going. It was rude treatment, especially for someone who had been a regular customer for so long. This year, in June, I went for the first time in more than 15 years and was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere, which was relaxed and friendly. The food was always mediocre but edible. The desserts have always been amazing. It seems things have moved up a notch in terms of the main courses. There's not as much competition in the hood anymore. A lot of the fantastic pizza-pasta restaurants are gone. Our server was very pleasant.
We enjoyed our dinner, salad was crisp, pasta was done just right, will return again
Great food, the service was a little slow but acceptable considering how busy the place is. They’ve been around for 50+ years for a darn good reason. Will definitely go back
The food was cold when it arrived, the waiters did not pay much attention to us and were at times rude.
On vacay, leaned about Toronto’s Little Italy, found this spot. Had a great meal.
Went for the first time with friends. Everyone enjoyed their meals which is not typical. Nice simple food not overdone and great value. The patio also has a great atmosphere for summer dining.
Had a very enjoyable lunch on the patio. Service was excellent, wait staff were all pleasant, and the food was better than I remembered.
Comfortable home style food. Very delicious. Love the place.
Good value for money. Little Italy landmark.
If you like being called “bud” by the waiters and tasting the sea in your seafood then this is the place for you. Do you like microwaved chicken parm?? Then come to cafe diplomatico. Yum... but not really. All joking aside, the food quality was really bad. Nobody enjoyed their food and even though we didn’t touch most of it because it was disgusting we weren’t given comps. It was just a really bad experience with poor food quality and unprofessional service.
Very capable, courteous and friendly server. It is easy to understand why this restaurant has been a long term success.
We always enjoy Cafe Dip. Outstanding food, service and a friendly vibe. Highly recommend the veal sandwich, pizza, Sicilian crepes and espresso.
This is the best brunch value in town. Finally a restaurant where I can have a decent brunch with enough food and unlimited coffee for under 15 dollars. Bravissimo!
Me and my group of friends from the USA went to the restaurant based on reviews from various websites for moderately priced local restaurants. We found the food very underwhelming & tasteless; including appetizers, the main courses and desserts. The wait staff were not very informative and were forgetful and slow. Very disappointing evening.
Great patio option if your looking to have a casual hangout and enjoy some apps and drinks with friends.
Great pizza!
Always fun at The Dip! Half pri e Martinis on Thursday! Awesome!
Café Diplomatico is a great place for low-key, classic Italian food at a decent price. Whenever we go to the nearby cinema, my gf and I always go here for pasta and some wine to share. One of my favourite places in Toronto.
Mother’s Day
It is getting old:) food is not authentic Italian anymore but a nice place for quick lunch
Really like the ambiance and the people, staff are very good...but found the food very below average and not enough specialties to enjoy...preferred the dessert and latte to the lasagna meal which was not like a great lasagna at all....was disappointed with the food (chef had no imagination how to make the meal delish and/or appetizing) but the efforts to please the customer were great, and we felt looked after.
Café Diplomatico is a great place to meet up with friends before catching a local show.
Loved this place that’s been there for 50 years! family run and great service.
Great food - Friendly staff.
Excellent food and ambience, very friendly staff as well.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Good pasta for the price.
This restaurant is an institution in Toronto. The staff are all great folks that are very attentive to their customers needs. This place is considered casual but the food is top-notch. To be clear, this is not a fine dining establishment. You will not find white tablecloths here or crystal glasses. It is a mom-and-pop kind of feel that serves old school Italian food in large servings. Their lasagna is simply amazing. You come to this place when you want a big hearty meal.
