Went for the prix fixe brunch. It's a fantastic deal that includes 3 courses and all you can drink bloody mary, mimosa or sparkling wine. Had the cheese and charcuterie for a starter, followed by a well executed and tasty croque madame and a Mexican chocolate pudding that was ouststanding. My only complaint is our server was slow getting our order so we didn't have our first course until about 35 or so minutes after we sat down. They did pass out free mini muffins which held us over. Our main course came not too long after but there was another big gap for dessert, which we had to order twice.
Despite the slowish service, this is my new favorite brunch spot. The food was solid, the drinks flowed, and the atmosphere is great.
42nd anniversary
Great service and generous, delicious salads. Would return!
Without thought, my husband and I decided to go to dinner and Cafe Del Rey came to mind. The hostess was fantastic, anticipating our desires of seating and updating us on the restaurant latest since we last dined, very warm and friendly. She very much enjoys her job.
Our waitress was professional, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We had the salmon and sea bream and both with the sides were excellent, our starters were each a cesar salad, which was very fresh and tasty. Very Easy for us to quickly select wine from a good list of choices. Our overall experience couldn’t have been better. We’re so pleased Cafe Del Rey has only gotten better with the years. I wish I remembered our waitress’ name however, hopefully she tend us the next time. My husband commented, “ a fantastic meal and outing”.
I had lunch with my two grown sons. The service was outstanding and the food and menu were perfect. We loved the lobster roll, cerviche , salads and lamb burger.
I was also pleased to see several Paso Robles wines wines on their list.
We will be regulars next time. Really pleasant, pretty place for any event. The last time I was there we celebrated my birthday. It was great.
Fantastic view, nice restaurant, service/employees and collaborators hight level, very good food, certainly we'll be back.
We have gone to this restaurant regularly over the years--every 5-6 weeks or so. Sometimes they have a lull in quality, this is one of those times. We'll give them a break for a year and see if they recover. The last time we were there (4/1/18), the fish was overcooked and the prices had been jacked way up. If you're going to charge $42 for sea bream, you better serve the a whole fish, not an overcooked measly filet. Any high-end Italian restaurant in LA, e.g. Valentino, wouldn't dare not do a whole branzino or sea bream, given theses are small fish. Our previous visit, the king salmon was also overcooked. This is very disappointing since this has been a good restaurant in the past.
Staff handled Easter well. Loved steak & eggs Quiche was so so great for the money
The welcoming was very pleasant. Seated us right away and acknowledged the reason for our dining. All around 5 stars for everything.
Food lacked taste and spices. All the meals were very bland.
Oysters were extraordinary, squid ink pasta was very good.
Most of the rest was good enough.
What knocked us out was the service.
We enjoyed one of the best waitresses we have ever had.
Her attention and communication skills were exactly right.
It made our evening.
Love this place. The food, service and view are fantastic! Very special.
Great food and service
CAFE DEL REY HAS A CREATIVE AND TASTY MENU. tHE SEAFOOD IS FIRST RATE AND ON THE OTHER HAND THEY HAVE EXCELLENT STEAKS.
Good Food,Good service
very nice for special occasion
Cafe del Rey is one of our favorite local Marina restaurants. We have spent many enjoyable evenings there. The food is superb, the menu is enticing and the service and ambiance are first rate.
High recommend!
Service, food: lamb chops, chicken, mussels/ink pasta; all were very delicious! Our server, Jennifer ? knew everything about all the dishes and the wines also-very informative without sounding like a recording . Sunday, 3-11-18, 545pm reservation. The handcrafted drink 'Pina something' was yummy. This was our first visit but Definitely will be back.
I enjoyed my dinner there, a lovely place to catch up with an friend.
Very good, though it got a bit noisy at the end due to a large group nearby
Awesome! Great scallops.
I was pleased w/my lunch choice, but my friend sent hers back as being inadequate.
But, the manager was quick to come to our table and insist that her satisfaction was his main purpose in life and he quickly made some suggestions and she was happy w/the replacement choice.
So, our lunch was enjoyable.
Nice place, nice location, excellent food, very friendly service, simply too noisy,
what a pity!!
Over-priced and bad food!
This was one of our favorite restaurants years ago when we used to live in Southern California. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday there since we were in town. The food is still as amazing as ever and our waiter was so attentive. Loved the view of the Marina from our table.
I was bummed that they don't serve their famous chocolate souffle any more. I always ordered that for dessert whenever we dined there. Oh well!
My third visit to the Cafe del Rey. And the food continues to excel and the view across the marina just adds to it.
Go with the Spanish octopus if you like seafood!
Great restaurant.....great service.....great view......great food.....
Easy parking, friendly greeting and quick seating with res, excellent food except lamb burger was unevenly cooked and great dessert!
A lovely dinner experience. Would absolutely return on a future visit to LA. The octopus was a big hit at our table. The salmon was also excellent. Lovely environment and quiet enough to enjoy conversation.
Cafe del Rey has remained consistently good over the years due to an excellent wait staff, caring and concerned management and excellent food. With its unbeatable views and welcoming ambiance, it remains one of my favorite restaurants.
Just an overall great place near the marina water front. Good food, service and atmosphere. Was VERY loud when we arrived, but quickly dialed down which was a good thing. Not a huge extensive menu but tasty choices.
The fish is top notch. Ordered salads that never came.
Delicious food, great view, good service. All around great experience.
We had a great time. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Thank you to the staff for treating us so well!
Cafe del Rey is a wonderful restaurant, in a beautiful location. Our meals there are always delicious and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The valet parker is great! Thank you, Cafe del Rey!
This is a "premium" quality seafood restaurant. All the fish on the menu was fresh and wild, and the preparations were just perfect. When you want a healthy alternative to those chain "fish" restaurants. this is a go-to place! Also, the service was so personalized and wonderful, the General Manager came over to welcome us to the restaurant just after being seated, and checked back with us several times through the evening. He even came over to talk to us about their fish selections, where the fish were from, defining the term "wild" and in particular when it comes to salmon and tuna, how that term is being mis-used (they did not label their product as wild) but he explained that these were not "farmed fish" either.
Wonderful dinner. The food is very good. Our server was very helpful as my friend has some food allergies and our server was very thorough and thought ahead to what options were available for her.
We were three long time friends celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere is lovely, the service was outstanding. I have some food allergies and they were very conscientious about making sure my food was free of the allergens. The food was unique and delicious. My only concern is that you may remove items from your order but to replace an item you have to pay extra.
Food was decidedly average, in fact rather disappointing.
Average food served tepid. The sauce was bland, not even sure there was one. I am easy to tempt and even the dessert menu was uninspiring. All and all; a good place to miss.
The noise level on a Saturday night is a bit too much for conversation. We enjoyed the view and our server was very good. The food was good but it could be a bit more exciting. We heard about the layers of flavor the chef likes to use but it was hard to find them. Presentation was lovely but wanted a bit more taste. Portions are very small.
