Cafe Del Rey Ratings and Reviews
This is a "premium" quality seafood restaurant. All the fish on the menu was fresh and wild, and the preparations were just perfect. When you want a healthy alternative to those chain "fish" restaurants. this is a go-to place! Also, the service was so personalized and wonderful, the General Manager came over to welcome us to the restaurant just after being seated, and checked back with us several times through the evening. He even came over to talk to us about their fish selections, where the fish were from, defining the term "wild" and in particular when it comes to salmon and tuna, how that term is being mis-used (they did not label their product as wild) but he explained that these were not "farmed fish" either.
We were three long time friends celebrating a birthday. The atmosphere is lovely, the service was outstanding. I have some food allergies and they were very conscientious about making sure my food was free of the allergens. The food was unique and delicious. My only concern is that you may remove items from your order but to replace an item you have to pay extra.
The noise level on a Saturday night is a bit too much for conversation. We enjoyed the view and our server was very good. The food was good but it could be a bit more exciting. We heard about the layers of flavor the chef likes to use but it was hard to find them. Presentation was lovely but wanted a bit more taste. Portions are very small.
We really appreciated the personal service we received. It was our wedding anniversary, and the manager and staff came by more than once to be sure we were satisfied with everything. My daughter had called ahead to contribute her credit card for part of the bill, and our menu said, "Happy Anniversary from your Daughters". I thought the personalized menu was really nice, and a keepsake for us. We were also treated to a glass of champagne for the occasion, and dessert as well. Very nice, and a great restaurant for a special occasion.
This is part of Tavistock Restaurants and not up to their standards by virtue of it being nearly empty on a Friday. The wine was overpriced, the server obsequious, the food also overpriced while mediocre. Even the managers were overbearing as they “dropped by” and interrupted conversation more than 3 times. This time interest, it’s them keeping busy. They should learn from Napa Valley Grill how to run a sister restaurant.
The welcome was warm and accommodating. We first gathered in the bar where live music was great, and not too loud. The drinks were well made. We were able to delay our seating and enjoy the bar. I had checked the box on Open Table that we were celebrating a birthday, but I didn't expect the menus to have "Happy Birthday" printed on the top. Nice touch in line with many others including a gluten free version of the amuse bouche for one person in our party. The service was great. The waitstaff seemed to appear right on cue. It was one of those great meals where we looked up and hours had passed. The truffle pizza is worth the drive alone. The tapenade made of green olives was bright and delicious and came with foccaccia. I had scallops which were beautiful and delicious. The birthday cheesecake was one of the best...maybe goat cheese in it. And the valet left a small packet of cookies in my car with the restaurant logo. Another touch that made me feel well taken care of. Highly recommend.
Cafe del Rey is one of our favorite local, upscale restaurants. The food is always excellent, the menu is creative and the service is very professional. And the view of the marina harbor is beautiful. Only problem we encountered on New Year's Eve this year, is they were overbooked and an 8:45 reservation did not get seated until 9:20 (I think the 9PM fireworks show in the park had something to do with it!)
We were just at Cafe del Rey for an early dinner on New Years eve. We always enjoy celebrating special events here. It was fun and festive and the food was excellent. This was our best New Years dinner experience- ever. As always the staff makes you feel very welcome. The atmosphere was sparkling and so was the Marina. The food was exceptional. Even though the restaurant was at capacity, the service was perfect. We never felt rushed. We were able to see the 9:00 fireworks. It was a really special night. Cafe del Rey knows how to treat their guests.
Hostess was professional; waiter and busboys were attentive, keeping puling water into our glasses :) ; the waiter brought me a knife without my request; accommodated to my request to have the meat cooked a little bit more after my first cut despite the fact that I had consented to have meat medium-cooked when ordering. Even after being returned to the stove, the meat was still tender--- amazing chef.
I am not sea food fan at all but highly recommend the Lobster Tail that has NONE seafood smelling at all . They have separated the lobster meat from the shell so it was quite easy to eat it without any cutting efforts. The restaurant deco is warm and cozy.
We used to like Cafe del Rey, but Christmas eve dinner was a total disappointment. I called to confirm the reservation I had done online, they confirmed and the next day someone called to confirm the reservation again.
I was informed it was a fixed price, which was fine with us, but they failed to inform us that it was a buffet. We don't like buffets, and the one presented by Cafe Del Rey confirmed why we don't like them. The food choice was poor and the food was cold. We were 4 people and none of us enjoyed our meal. The buffet was poorly set up. It looked improvised, as it certainly was. To top it all off they informed Open Table that we did not honor our reservation , which, of course, we did.
We usually love Cafe del Rey, it is our "go to place when guests visit"; therefor we chose the restaurant for our Christmas Eve dinner. OH were we surprised in a BAD way!!!!
It was horrible - it seems they rented the place to some catering business - NOTHING was like the Cafe del Rey we know and love. It felt and tasted like a Bar Mitzvah food catering place.....a buffet with very little choices, terrible staff, absolutely no taste and no ambiance . If I could I would give "-5 stars" to this.......
