Cafe Del Rey Ratings and Reviews
We love Cafe Del Rey and we go there every year for our anniversary. Your restaurant is where my wife proposed to me. The woman who greeted us was excellent as was our server. The manager of the restaurant came to greet us. Pardon me, but I don't remember the names of any of them. We loved the food, the wine, and the dessert. I would recommend Cafe Del Rey to anyone. Thank you.
This is my client's favorite place so when I am in town, this is where we go. This is the best time as it is festive and the holiday lights really add to the charm. The views of the marina are great and the food is always good. We always start with the oysters and truffle pizza. This time I tried the salmon which was cooked perfectly. Another great experience.
I live and work in Marina del Rey, so Café del Rey has always been my "go to" place for special occasions as well as for business meeting meals. I have NEVER been disappointed in the service, ambiance, food or overall experience. The bar is also a favorite Happy Hour spot, with healthy and delicious choices in food and nice choice of drinks. Thank you for being in the neighborhood!
On my reservations with Open Table I did check the celebrating of a birthday. After my request for the flourless chocolate cake I was surprised I did not get the candle and happy birthday announcement from them. I did mention it was my birthday. The waitress apologized and said she did not know that. Well I guess the hostess did not communicate that to the waitress. She did add a candle and a happy birthday edible chocolate ornament. That wasn’t the only problem with the restaurant service. We order the Kobe burger rare plus. When we got it, it was more uncooked then rare plus. She took the burger and had new ones made. This time it was border line well done. I did let the waitress know and said not to replace it and I didn’t want to eat it.
The restaurant was nice and had good views of the bay with the boats docked. I thought it was pricy for what it was. I’m surprised the restaurant did not give free dessert for birthdays and did not remove the Kobe burger off the bill since they’ve messed up twice on that. Well I guess you can’t expect that from all nice restaurants. This is a first for me. Every restaurants I’ve gone to have always provided good costumer service and would want costumers to come back. I guess not this one.
Wonderful lunch with great menu. Excellent wait staff - knowledgeable about each dish, enthusiastic and helpful. We ordered a Virgin Mary that is created on site; excellent spicy balance. The view of the yacht harbor was a bonus. Definitely a restaurant to come back to, and recommend to friends who haven’t been here, or to the Marina in a while. Noise level enabled conversation without difficulty. Overall feel to the restaurant was friendly. Excellent food - highly recommend the fresh albacore salad and the 4-plate tasting menu. The short ribs on polenta and daily market fish was excellent on the day we went. The dessert of chocolate cake with berries was delicious and light. The suggested thin crust pizza as a starter was also a great pick. We loved the carmelized onion and truffle topping.
The restaurant was recommended to us as visitors to the area. We were pleased with the dining experience and look forward to the next visit. The positive experience started with a very friendly and welcoming hostess to a waiter that made us comfortable and provided excellent service. We particularly enjoyed the fresh oysters from British Columbia and continued with a salmon and Icelandic Cod. Both dinners were thoroughly enjoyed. When the service slowed because of the crowd, the manager (owner) provided us with his apologizes and a very tasty plate of bites..very good. This is the type of service that stands out!
Looking forward to the next meal!
I used to dine here very often 10-15 years ago. My recent return revealed that every dish is still creative, decorative and tasty. Wine list includes some reasonably priced fine imports from Spain. During our dinner some compliments were offered for slow service (though I did not feel that way), which shows how they care about customers.
The music was so loud I couldn't hear the person sitting across from me at a 4 person table. I have excellent hearing. We had to shout to each other to have a conversation. Our first request to lower the volume was ignored. After speaking with the general manager, the volume was reduced slightly, enough for us to hear each other if we spoke loudly. The food is best described as mediocre. Overall a very unpleasant dining experience for the entire group.
I was celebrating my birthday on October 19th and I had a wonderful time. The service and my food was delicious. However, my boyfriend's did not like his dish at all. He complained that the pasta was too chewy. He kept this to himself so he wouldn't spoil my evening. Mentioned his dislikes as we were leaving.
I give your restaurant 5 stars and the company that I work for has booked one of your banquet rooms for a brunch. Thank you for making my birthday special. Loved our name on the menu.
Visiting from the mountain west, so dining marina side is a treat in and of itself. An unexpected plus was the beautiful live guitar music wafting through. Excellent menu with good choices of sea food and meats, a suggestion would be to have a couple of vegan options. Nice wine list, very knowledgeable women server helped with wine selection.
My first time at this restaurant but my business associate and his wife love this place and he wanted to show it off to me. I couldn't have been more pleased. Amazing service from the minute we walked in the door. Amazing food, fit for foodies. From the appetizer to the main meal and onto the deserts. All were great next time I am in the area, I will be visiting again.
So disappointing today and I eat here A LOT, first, our server was sick or had allergies during service, then they were out certain items on the menu, then food was taking longer than usual, then came out tasting mediocre, then music was just too loud for the tiny space or maybe because of where we were seated BUT TONIGHT WAS HORRIBLE. If I base my recommendations on tonight, I wouldn't be back, but I'm hoping that was only a glitch which definitely did not warrant my $225 dinner bill.
Have been to Cafe Del Rey a half dozen times in the last two years and it keeps going down. Food is good, but it took forever to get it last Sunday evening. The Manager on duty just stands and watches, does not get involved or direct or talk to customers. Our waiter was waiting on a big party plus our table, it took forever to get drink refills and the bill. This was my last vist.
Met there for a business lunch. View of the marina is gorgeous and the food is delicious. I had the sesame crusted albacore tuna salad and practically licked the plate. Not too loud but definitely not quiet. Service was wonderful from the hostess to the waiter, very attentive without being annoying.
Highly recommend for a business lunch and will be back for dinner and weekend brunch in the future.
Food was delicious. Service was very good. Our server was attentive and the food came out quickly, almost too quickly since we had not quite finished the first course when the second one came but that never bothers me.
My only complaint was the 25 minute wait to be seated with a reservation on a Wednesday night. It was not busy and there were several open tables.
I was amazed at how amazing this restaurant was. Me and a few friends could easily stay all night and order everything on the menu. The good is well priced and the service excellent. The servers time when to bring out ur meals perfectly. For three people we totaled $280 cheaper than I expected. However you can go for much less than that. I recommend requesting a table by the window at sunset to enjoy the full view.
