Food was good, service not very good, tired looking decor. Wouldn’t go back.
We meet here often because it is midway between Santa Monica and Hermosa Beach. Most of the food is quite good but the hamburgers were dreadful !
Friendly, relaxed spot on the harbor. A bit pricey and the server up charghed without our knowledge, but a pleasant place.
Great service and great food! But really great service and a wonderful view.
Great staff and the food was delicious! We came to cerebrate our anniversary and the staff was so accommodating. They even gave us a couple glasses of champagne!
Great location, great staff and great food. Food is less than fair. I really wanted to like it, but I just did not. Octopus was way over cooked, lobster Mac and cheese was awful. The fries were great though.
Service was fantastic! Would definitely go back! Brunch was a really good value!
Vacay in California.
Have been going to Cafe Del Rey for over 20 years. At one time, I considered it one of the best restaurants in LA. Hadn't been back for a couple of years, and the menu had changed substantially.
Special mixed drinks were EXCELLENT! Scallops were not very good, cold and overwhelmed by the glaze. Our guest was served 4 scallops, shared one and left one on her plate.
Rack of lamb was under cooked and was served on the cold side.
My octopus was super charred to the point where the octopus was over cooked, very dry and served barely warm. The beans and sauce were ok, but because they were served barely warm, not as tasty as they should have been.
Sides of frys and Brussels sprouts were good, but the asparagus was space and served barely warm. Ok, but not spectacular.
Service at front desk, on the phone, and in general was very good. Waiter was very nice, but not that familiar with the food he was serving.
We ordered a fruit tart dessert to share at his recommendation as we had an 8 pm show to get to. It took 25+ minutes for him to serve the dessert, after 2 follow-up requests. Is was finally served hot, but completely burned on the bottom. Tasted good, but the burned bottom just broke away.
We had a great table by the window and watched the sunset with friends from SF. So we had a great time, but it was not the "wow" experience that I was used to having each time I went to Cafe Del Rey years ago.
Hope this helps.
PS Missed the special sushi oriented dishes Cafe Del Rey used to prepare so well.
My husband and me had dinner here last Friday and I must say we were both pleasantly suprised . We both had the king crab as a starter and we both considered it the best we had ever had. He followed with a small filet steak and I has their chicken. Both were very good and together with the excellent service we received, we enjoyed a wonderful night out. The only downside for us ( we are from Europe and used to taking our time having dinner) is that the courses follow each other to fast. Our waiter, once she knew we wanted more time did all she could to give us that.
My dish of eggplant seemed watery so before I could even call the mananger came over and gladly replaced it with a different meal of my choice. While waiting we were given free wine refills and small food treat.
Lovely staff, lovely setting, outstanding food and views.
We drove our out of town guest straight from LAX to Café Del Rey. Thank goodness for valet. We did not need it for the time we went, but would not chance a visit without it.
Great view.... great service from staff.....................................dfg
Always amazing, excellent ambiance, cuisine and service! One of The if not THE best restaurants in Marina del Rey.
Vladimir was an incredible server. We enjoyed amazing food with light, live music. I'll be going back!
Small expensive portions
Noisy , loud music
This is our go to place when friends are coming to LAX on route to parts unknown. However its so good you could go to it anytime for any reason or no reason at all expect that you want great food, good service and a location overlooking the water in MDR.
Life is good here but better yet when the stuffed pork chops with a savory bread pudding are on the menu. All of the food is nice but those chops...
So go to Cafe Del Rey and see for yourself. I am confident that you will not be disappointed.
We had a lovely lunch at Cafe del Rey. I had the prix fixe lunch and chose the spinach salad and open-faced steak sandwich. My companion opted for the special Seafood Cobb Salad. Both were delicious. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing. We had a window seat so the view of the Marina was lovely. Overall, we had a wonderful time and a wonderful meal.
A wonderful treat for dinner and cocktails in the Marina!
Had family in town and wanted to treat them. Service great but kitchen slow. Given complimentary salads, fine. Lobster ravioli and lobster Mac & cheese very good. Eggplant and zucchini dish not tasty and poor presentation.
The place didn't change but the ambiance was different from my last visit, quieter. The food was ok
but not as expected . Mind you the temperature was cold , when it is nice weather more people and the
terrace is open .
The best part about the restaurant is the view of the Marina. The interior décor is run down (chipping paint on the booths and dirty looking purple/brown vinyl upholstery) and in dire need of a facelift. The restaurant was empty except for a private birthday party that was wrapping up and it took too long to get our food. Perhaps it was because it appeared that the chef was providing food tastings for mgmt. It looked like they were tasting and taking pictures of new menu options. I ordered a med/med rare lamb burger without the top bun. It arrived with the bun and well done. We didn't sit at the bar, but if you wanted to, your back would be to the Marina view. (bad design). No plans to go back.
First time diners at this restaurant. Our server was amazing! Everyone ordered something different and everyone was very happy with the choices. Only dessert was less than stellar. You could use more choices. The ones we chose were just OK. Will definitely return.
Great birthday venue. Loved loved the live cello music. Perfect!
Prix fixe brunch with bottomless mimosas and bloody Marys were perfect with salmon Benedict and shrimp and grits. Delicious. The view of the marina is charming.
Very nice place. Just be prepared to pay more than you should for the food that you get.
I’m not sure I’d recommend it after this weekend. The food we ordered was delicious and our waiter wonderful. However we had a 7 pm reservation and waited 45 minutes to be seated. At 9:30 we decided it was to late to order entrees. We had starters & desserts!!!
John Dory over cooked . Mushrooms were burned and served cold. S’mores were just weird. Oysters and service were both excellent but the noise was very high. Given the price I expected much better. Went to Del Rey the next night and had an excellent meal.
We just had a great time. They are across the Street from where we live on Admiralty Way, and is our go-to Place to relax and enjoy. From the General Manager down- everyone was right on for that evening. Thank you,
We have dined at Café Del Ray each time we pass through LA ( the restaurant is convenient to LAX). We are greeted with friendly hospitality every time. The food is delicious and the menu is varied and interesting. The restaurant also has a nice wine list. The restaurant is " worth a journey" !
Great service, delightful staff, food good!!!
Everything was nice except the item that I ordered. I would not recommend a lobster roll. Mostly bread with very little lobster. However, when I complained about it the waitress had it taken off my bill. That was very nice.
My friend had the skirt steak which she sent back the first time because it was too salty. The second one she said was delicious.
They do a very nice job with birthdays. They print their name on the menu and offer a complementary dessert, with a candle.
The ambience with the Harborview is great. The service is good too.
I can never say enough great things about this amazing Gem in the water in Marina del Rey! One of the best kept secrets on the water!
A wonderful place and way to spend an evening with family and for a birthday dinner!
Lovely view of the Marina. The French onion soup was simply the best I have ever had! My steak sandwich was delicious. We were celebrating my friend's birthday and the chocolate cake was wonderful. Will absolutely dine there again.
Always amazing ! I can't say enough great things about Cafe del Rey... Incredible food, amazing ambiance, excellent service!
Enjoyed my evening at Cafe el Rey having had all of my expectations fulfilled through the convenient reservation process and follow-up phone call with specific requests that were met.
Excellent food one of the best Tuna dishes I’ve had. Would definitely go back for more next time I’m in the area!
Very nice place, very good value, Awesome food Terrific staff and the manager is very attentive to all customers and very helpful and concerned about your experience
