Our first visit to this neighborhood gem and we will return for sure. The atmosphere, service and food were very good. (Just as a point of reference, we reserve "outstanding" for restaurants like 11 Madison Park, Per Se, etc.) A bit pricey on our budget for a neighborhood restaurant so we will save it for future special occasions or when friends visit and we want to take them to a nice local UES restaurant.
best to make a reservation because you never know if it will be packed, great food + service, but took a long time to get check
We had such a lovely meal at Cafe D’Alcase. The wait staff was attentive, and our meals were delicious. An, added bonus for our next visit is that they put the Lamb Burger back on the menu. I can't wait.
Really awesome food and service. Highly recommend
The $50 prix fixe price could be considered pricey, but the 3 courses were each plentiful and excellent. Service was prompt and the waiter was there when we needed something. Tables nearby (inside) with young children made the noise level a bit high, but once they left, it was easier to carry on a conversation. All in all, this restaurant gets high marks for food quality, service and ambience.
Wonderful food and drink in a convivial atmosphere!
This place is wonderful. The service is prompt and accurate. The food is great and authentic. Everything is really on point.
we hosted some friends from faraway and are glad that we chose the Cafe d'Alsace for dinner. everything was perfect from our dinners (a la carte and prix fixe to the attentive but not overbearing service. as we had an early seating and it was Friday night it was most heartening to not feel pressured to vacate our table as soon as we paid - all in all a great night and we will be back
Great food. Great people. Great atmosphere. Favorite place to be in the Upper East Side.
I took my husband for a surprise date night. The food was incredible and for the price everyone should be making this their go to spot. The only issue I had was in my reservation I specifically listed the reason for the dinning experience and that we had to be gone by 7pm to make our show, another surprise for the evening. Unfortunately my waitress seemed unaware of this detail and we barely made the curtain call. But we will definitely be back!
Café d'Alsace is a great neighborhood place for lunch. The menu has a nice variety and our meals were delicious. Not too crowded, good service, relaxed and civilized lunch.
One of my favorite places to eat in NYC! Never disappoints. The hangar steak with bone marrow is amazing and so flavorful. Be sure to order the apple tart to end your meal.
It’s rare that you go to a restaurant where every single dish is delicious and tasty. That was our experience at café de Alsace ....really enjoyed the menu particularly the sweet breads which were done to perfection. It’s a little pricey, but you can be guaranteed a great meal and the ambience is perfect.
I had never been to this restaurant before after living in the area for a year so my friend dragged me along with her. I feel so bad for not going sooner!! The hostess was so welcoming and gracious. My server was patient and helpful as I had no idea what to order. I’m a sucker for a burger so I went with that and it was phenomenal. Also, the Hazelnut Gateau dessert...so delicious. Will be returning very soon to try the rest of the menu!
I recently moved from London to UES.
Cafe D’alsace Is my favorite place locally.
I’ve always had great food and delicious drinks, cocktails and wine.
This is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the city. The food is great and the staff is on top of everything from filling my coffee cup to order accuracy. Fantastic service and ambience.
Always a popular mainstay on our neighborhood dinning list! Food is always good, and I mean always !
We celebrated our 26th. Anniversary there. The food and service was outstanding. We both felt that the staff went above and beyond in helping us celebrate our special day. We WILL be going back and telling friends.
Our waiter was the best!!
Excellent food as always. We ordered the bone marrow, foie gras, tart flambé and charcuterie as appetizers and all delicious. Duck was fantastic, and the grilled sausages are all very tasty. Would recommend as a great meal at great value near the museums
Great spot for really good traditional cuisine.
It is a very noisy restaurant but the food is excellent. Service was unusually slow.
Good food and service. Noisy at times.
We arrive, a party of six, with a reservation at 6:00. Since it was a warm summer evening the doors were opened and there did not seem to be any air conditioning in the front. We were seated in the front near open doors and close to the bar. The buses, trucks, and motorcycles went by. There were many tables in the back and before we were seated I asked for a table in the back where it was cooler and more quiet. The young woman told me those tables were all reserved. I asked if she would let me know if there were any cancellations so we could be moved. After dinner we moved to the bar for some drinks and let about 9:30. Those tables were never used. Poor management.
We made a reservation for a party of 3, arrived on time, and 3 more people we knew came to stop by to say “Hi” and sit with us. The host was condescending about having a larger party when there were plenty of tables available at that time. Our 3 friends left soon thereafter. But the main issue is with the long delays to get the menus, take our drink orders, and receive the drinks. A requested glass of water came several minutes later. After we placed our food order, appetizers arrived unacceptably late, something like 45 minutes. One of us walked up to the manager at the front desk to say that the service was going too slowly. He didn’t even stop by to check on our table at any point thereafter. And then they displaced two friends from their existing table to the same one adjacent to ours (where our earlier friends had momentarily stopped by) because their dinner service was also so slow that they were kicked out to accommodate another reservation! On top of that, there were 2 people on the host stand chewing gum and audibly gossiping about our situation. Management needs to work hard on more efficient operations and diner satisfaction.
Service was not up to your usual level. Not sure why. We’re loyal though.
Practically perfect in every way. Our favorite go-to place for great food and a lively atmosphere.
DELISH! My boyfriend and I went here for his Birthday dinner. He got the Farmhouse Chicken and I got the Steak Frites. Both were great. We also shared the Grilled Octopus appetizer which I highly recommend.
No disappointment. Always professional service and delicious meals !
Best apple tart in New York, Not overly sweet and just perfect.
Miss Moore was gratified that her guest ‘s birthday was remembered and candle lit and requested table by window reserved . She enjoyed her enormous sausages half of which she took home to reeenjoy. The only dampener was the profusion of waitstaff checking on our readiness to order as we were enjoying a wine (when we asked if they had Malbec the one particularly annoying server says “not by the glass” completely underestimating Miss Moore’s desires .
Great food, great service, great value, space between tables, very good spot to eat!
My chicken was delicious but my friend’s steak a bit tough. Our waiter was wonderful but the support staff kept trying to take our plates away even though we were not done. The front desk was friendly but when you make a Rez online there are a lot of rules about arriving on time and leaving after a certain amount of time etc. I felt like a chastised child and not a possibly new good customer.
Fresh and abundant. Good service. A little noisy reflecting the appeal of this place on a Friday night.
Our favorite neighborhood cafe, like being in Paris or maybe Alsace but in New York. The food is excellent, wholesome French food, not over-fancy or experimental, just good ingredients well-cooked by a throughly skilled chef and good kitchen. French-Alsatian classics and very authentic. Service is caring, prompt and friendly, David particularly and Brendan the host is charming. Knowledgeable sommelier.
Great value for money too.
Menu items do not actually reflect what is in the food. I’m allergic to onions and the roasted fennel and olives that is listed with the sea bass says nothing about onions so I ordered it. Someone came to the table 15 minutes later saying onions were already mixed in and I couldn’t have it. Limited options so I ended up with a very bland steamed broccoli and dry fish.
A great burger and perfect roasted chicken. The server was friendly and accommodating.
Consistently good food and service. Great neighborhood place that is always a reliable go to place for lunch, brunch or dinner. Excellent early bird dinner value.
Always a consistently excellent dining experience. The dishes are varied and always delicious. The atmosphere welcoming and very comfortable. This is a wonderful NYC French restaurant.
They put us in the bar. Table was so small we had to move the large plates so they were not off the table. Service and food were average. Very disappointed.
