Being Alsatian, this cuisine hits both French and German notes, and both are done well. Do look at the plats du jour, which seem to be rotating through the week and can be part of the price fix menu. The place has an authentic brasserie feel to it, is not in a busy tourist area and an easy walk from the Metropolitan.

I went to Cafe D'Alsace for the first time in late October, and happily came back again two weeks later. A perfect restaurant for winter. It's a very meat-forward menu, so be warned, vegetarians. The wine list is huge, the beer list is very well curated, and the cocktails are delicious. The restaurant also looks great--it feels like a low key french/german restaurant. Yum!

a minute after we were served our appetizers the entree came out
though I asked for two different tables and was told they were reserved for large parties , when we left they were occupied by single couples

I enjoyed my visit. Hard to characterize Alsatian cuisine--something French something German and perhaps something for everyone. Wide variety of bottled beer many Belgian including Rodenbach, one of my favorite sour beers. They have heaters for the outside tables, where it is quieter. All this comes at a price and some of the larger beers seem extravagantly expensive.
Definitely recommended.

Always consistent and waiters are knowledgeable about food and wine, friendly, courteous and efficient. October Fest menu was delicious. We wish that they bring back Duck and Lamb burger.

This was my second time to Café d'Alsace. It's a good local restaurant in the upper East side of NYC. The food is good, authentic cuisine of France's northeast Alsace region. The only negative to mention is getting the attention of the waiters to come to the table. I had to stand up and flag a waiter down to get my attention. Otherwise, the onion soup was deliciously cheesy and had a sweetness to it. The Choucroute Garni was a good sample of many different pork meats.

Food and service was fine. Sadly the noise level is beyond description..again if you enjoy good food and service and content to smile in agreement with the conversation . Great.. otherwise try lunch...??? Not the fault of the restaurant but just a fact.

A reliable bistro that gets the French classics just right. Especially strong on Alsatian dishes. Try the charcuterie.

Phenomenal food! I have been here several times but had a lovely dinner last weekend. The brussel sprouts with bacon were our favorite but the whole meal was delectable. We sat at a table by the window and it was great people watching along bustling second avenue. This is a great setting for a date or a group of friends.

The food is good, and the service we experienced was excellent. The restaurant was full of lively Saturday night diners - be advised that the noise level can be fairly high, so it can be difficult to have quiet conversation. All in all, it was a good French meal. I would recommend it if you are in the area.

We had one of the best dining experiences ever! We started with a drink outside & continued to have our dinner there because of the beautiful evening weather. Our server was most accommodating & based on his recommendation I tried bass for the first time! The way he described the preparation -- I couldn't pass it up. AND it was Wemarvelous!! We will definitely be back whenever we're in the city. THANK YOU for a most delightful dining experience!!

Our go-to fave was very crowded Saturday night and service suffered because of it. We were seated outside on the side street. It took a half hour to get water and another 15 minutes to get bread. When the waiter finally came to take our drinks order we insisted on doing the full order then and there. We were hungry! We didn't see anyone again for another half an hour!
That said- the good is worth the wait.

This is a neighborhood restaurant for us. We love the food, but on Friday night the service was up and down. We went at 6:30p and everything was great until about 7pm when the restaurant got very crowded and very noisy. A couple was squeezed in less than a foot from our table, the wait between entree and dessert was quite long and we were frankly happy to leave by 8pm. Clearly have to dine there early or much later; hopefully this was just a fluke.

Friendly service, pleasant atmosphere. Noise level allows reasonable conversation, food not the most dazzling or innovative but good quality.
A good choice for a date with old friends and enjoy an afternoon ( evening ) together.

Very authentic French bistro setting and food. Excellent steak frites, and they have mouelle (roasted beef marrow bones) which is kind of a rarity on NYC menus. Friendly, professional service and a huge selection of beers. Well worth the price. It can, and does, get noisy.

I am so happy we live a block away from Cafe D'Alsace. This restaurant never ceases to please. From a quick dinner of moule frite or a burger to to a romantic evening of great fish, chicken or steak, we've never been disappointed.

Cafe d'Alsace is our "go-to" neighborhood restaurant. The food and service are reliably good. The dining room can be a bit loud but we don't mind it. I always get the Steak Frites and the chopped salad. My dining companions switch it around a bit but they are always happy with their orders.
