The service was great and the menu has great price fixed options. The meal was average but everything else makes up for it. Great ambience too.

We spent some time in Alsace last year and looked forward to finding some authentic places in New York. Cafe d'Alsace is truly authentic. There are many Alsatian dishes on the menu. My wife and I split a tarte flambée and it was very good. Main courses were very good as well. I had a nice choucroute garnie with a good mix of sausages, smoked pork loin etc. The winner, however, was my wife's choice of Baeckeoffe, a casserole of beef, pork, lamb and potatoes. The wine list is extensive with many choices from the main regions of France (Bordeaux and Beaujolais) and a good selection of whites and five Pinot Noirs (hard to find Alsatian reds in NY) from Alsace. We liked everything about the restaurant, and we will be back.

My favorite French restaurant. Only criticism is the music. It is too loud and unsuitable for a French restaurant. Please bring back the French background music

The service was excellent, I had a wonderful time because the staff was friendly and the restaurant was festive and cozy. Would like vegetarian/vegan dishes on the menu so that I could invite more friends to share meals together at this restaurant.

A friend and I wanted to have an early meal before a concert given in the vicinity of Cafe D'Alsace. We picked the right place! The staff welcomed us warmly on this cold New Years Eve. The place looked festive with wait staff wearing New Years hats and big smiles. The food was delicious. The tuna tartar was amazing, fresh and interesting. My friend loved the celery soup, it was not too thick and creamy! From the pheasant to lobster we were very happy with the choices. The desserts were simply sinful! Since it was New Years Eve we had to go with the Prix Fixe meal, but we are already planning to go back to sample the regular menu items, which sound delicious!

I like the restaurant for his atmosphere and for the menu. But i especially go for the choucroute.
The sauerkraut itself is delicious. This time the potatoes were too undercooked and the meets not so tasty. However we had a great time. Wine was very good and our waiter really friendly. My friends loved what they choose

A neighborhood favorite. The menu is a terrific combination of Alsatian specialties not easily found in New York and American popular items. (The burgers are sensational). The tarte flambée and choucroute are perfect cold weather dishes.
The restaurant gets crowded and noisy at peak times but not terribly so. The service ranges from terrific to MIA servers who disappear for long periods of time.

Christmas Eve 2017 at Cafe d'Alsace was festive and spirited. As is often the case on a holiday when tables are close, we quickly got into an enjoyable conversation with another couple. We New Yorkers often find ourselves seated next to a couple from the West Coast, here to experience New York during holiday season and spend some time with relatives as well. Ah, our prix-fixe dinner: My pate was delicious; so were my nicely garliced sea scallops. My husband found his salad limited because he could not eat the lobster planned as a key component, and the halibut entree very good but small in size. Our next-table Seattleans seemed as pleased as I with the sea scallops and with the sirloin. Sculpted apple pie with ice cream and creme brûlée with raspberries deserve honorable mention. A caveat: Deviations from food items included in the set holiday menu are challenging if not impossible.

This UES staple is very comforting in that the quality of the food and the service remains consistently high. From being accommodating of an arrival earlier than our reservation to the value of the three course set price menu (which included cassolet and steak and frittes), this is a nice place to spend un-rushed, conversation friendly time having a great meal. The menu is very regionally specific without being intimidating to anyone unfamiliar. The wine selection is good and the beer selection spectacular. Two thumbs up.

My friends and I, including my partner, are always happy to be at Cafe d’Alsace where we feel well cared for. The gougeres are a special treat while we are having a glass of wine or Lillet as we check the offerings. My steak was perfectly prepared. I requested mashed potatoes instead of the fries and the server was very courteous about meeting my request. Two of us shared delicious profiteroles; all in all, another very pleasant evening!

We visit this restaurant every few weeks and the food is consistently good and the service goes beyond what is expected anywhere. David has become our favorite waiter in NYC. I do wish you would ask the chef to add a veggie burger to the menu!!!

I love French bistros. The place is very pretty with a nice looking menu. The staff were all sweet and gracious and gave us a romantic table in the back.
It was meant to be a romantic birthday dinner for me.
Regarding the meal, the Mussels were in a bland nearly tasteless broth which seemed only to have cream in it. No flavor. And my mussels were tough. Not a tasty meal in the least.
Our starter chopped salad was good.
My husband had the oxtail, lamb stew which was quite good.
My white wine a Sancerre by the glass was purported to be the driest they had, but it was for me too sweet.
Ambiance.....I'm thoroughly baffled that a lovely french bistro, is playing loud rock and roll music...????!! Why?!!! I looked over at the bar to see if that crowd warranted that loud boozy rock vibe, and there were only a few people at the bar. It's incongruous to me.
All in all, I would not recommend it, and will not go again.
The best feature was that our waiter, and everyone who attended us were absolutely lovely. But with the exception of the wine, the food and noise did not match up to their sweetness.

Really enjoyed this restaurant. We were a party of four who were there on a busy Wednesday evening. Food was very good with the menu selections reflecting its regional name. The bar and table service was excellent. Highly recommend the place for a causal, fun evening.

We recently dined at Cafe d'Alsace after not having dined there for several years. We were greatly impressed with the food and the service on our recent return. The service was professional, timely and courteous without being hovering. The cuisine that we had (beet salad, choucroute garnie, and steak tartare) were outstanding and true to the French-Alsatian tradition. The wine list was extensive and many choices at various price points. Although the noise level was moderately high, we had not trouble conversing amongst ourselves. Traditional French bistro fare of this quality is becoming very difficult to find in NYC. We were happy to see the tradition being upheld so very well at Cafe d'Alsace. We look forward to returning very soon and often!

Being Alsatian, this cuisine hits both French and German notes, and both are done well. Do look at the plats du jour, which seem to be rotating through the week and can be part of the price fix menu. The place has an authentic brasserie feel to it, is not in a busy tourist area and an easy walk from the Metropolitan.

I went to Cafe D'Alsace for the first time in late October, and happily came back again two weeks later. A perfect restaurant for winter. It's a very meat-forward menu, so be warned, vegetarians. The wine list is huge, the beer list is very well curated, and the cocktails are delicious. The restaurant also looks great--it feels like a low key french/german restaurant. Yum!
