Great food, great service. I would highly recommend Cafe d'Alsace!!
Not a great selection for a vegetarian
Very good food, cocktails and service. We will definitely go back regularly!
The food was very good, and the wait service was quite attentive.
But the front of house was problematic. They didn't have our Open Table reservation. Even though I showed them the email, and the restaurant was empty, they seated us grudgingly.
And then, an hour after I left, I got an email from Open Table saying that the restaurant told them we didn't show up!
I sent an email asking for an explanation and haven't heard back.
So this is something that needs to be addressed.
We love it. The tables are a bit close for us but the food makes it worth the visit. We are so glad it is in our neighborhood!!
Very good food, attractive and fun ambience and excellent service. However, beware of the noise level!
Modules frites outstanding. Delicious wine. Courteous service. A slice of Paris!
Excellent service and generous portions. Consistently solid French fare in the Upper East Side.
Outstanding as always! Justin and David are wonderful waiters!!! Kudos to all.
What a great menu, and what beautifully prepared dishes. I had steak frites, which is seldom remarkable -- but at Cafe Alsace it came with house-made mayonnaise (for the frites -- I asked for it -- and what a nice surprise when it turned out to be freshly made.) The steak was perfectly cooked, dusted with few herbs, accompanied by bone marrow and served atop a lovely pan sauce of what I took to be shallots and red wine. And an interesting drinks menu which included a Provençal Old Fashioned of Woodford Bourbon, herbs de Provence and a rosé ice ball. The whole menu is interesting. Eager to go back.
Our waiter, Justin, was terrific. Food excellent and out of the ordinary. The only problem was the noise level, which made conversation among three old, close friends next to impossible for the first hour of dinner.
Excellent food and service, as always. We had dietary restrictions and a birthday, and our waiter and the rest of the staff were very accommodating.
Always a wonderful dining experience.
Loved our waiter, we always seem to get entertaining but not intrusive waitstaff there. The specials were excellent and the wine/beer book was extensive! Would recommend the establishment get some sound absorbers, as the noise level rose significantly.
A reliable venue with consistently great food and outstanding service (shoutout to Justin!)
+Authentic Tarte Flambe and other Alsatian standards.
+ Leave room for dessert. Apple tart is awesome.
+ Reception is gracious.
+Bar is busy, but fun.
+Rest rooms hard to find, but pleasant.
~Wine list is hit or miss; not particularly Alsatian.
-Tables can feel a bit crowded and near door are subject to weather when it opens.
- Noise level can be quite high during busy hours.
We came for a family dinner to celebrate my birthday and the food was very good. The cod , pheasant sausage and salmon were standouts as was the molten chocolate cake! Also although a bit noisy the place was lovely and the service was very good. Thanks for the two extra desserts that were on the house. What a special birthday gift! We love this place and will continue to return for special occasions again.
Service was spectacular. Beer menu was something my husband looked forward to and was so excited about when he got there.
Been a longtime favorite...excellent bar and excellent kitchen...what more can you ask....
Great place to entertain friends
Consistently delicious food! Perfectly prepared and presented. Love the cocktails too!
Good restaurant. Everything we ordered was tasty. Would recommend for an evening out when you don’t feel like cooking.
Good food and service. Large portions. Everything I expected
Cafe d’Alsace is a favorite for me and for a good part of the neighborhood. This was the first time in almost a year we had dinner there and, while crowded in a “lively” room, the food really was outstanding. We had a variety of dishes ranging from Sea Bass, Scallops, and Salmon. It was all nicely prepared with the typical presentation found these days in better restaurants. Highly recommended!
Excellent restaurant. We were a group of 6 + baby and sat at the lovely oval table toward the back of the restaurant for an early 5:30 reservation on a Saturday night. Our waiter was EXCELLENT and knowledgable with the menu. He was even able to help us get some pasta + butter cooked for the baby. He recommended an excellent white wine that everyone loved. The food was BEYOND delicious! Some highlights were the scallops, the salmon + lentils, the chopped salad, and the duck. We were also celebrating a birthday and received a plate of warm (delicious) mixed cookies on the house. HOW THOUGHTFUL. We honestly couldn't have had a better time and will be returning soon. All around 5 star experience!
We love the servers at our neighborhood go-to spot!
Excellent roast chicken, and excellent risotto with butternut squash.
For many years Café d'Alsace has been a favorite, and for many years they have not managed to reduce the noise level to a manageable level, even when the restaurant is crowded and the windows are open. This would be a huge improvement, so that diners can carry on a conversation.
After having dinner here prior to a lecture at the 92nd Street Y, I wished we’d allotted more time to fully experience the menu’s offerings. My Manhattan was great, for starters. My wife and I went with the pre-theater menu, which offered plenty of options. The pheasant sausage appetizer, served over sauerkraut, tasted freshly homemade, with nut and mushroom bits (if I got that right) embedded in the sausage, making it multidimensionally savory. After that I was slightly sad I didn’t order something more adventurous than a burger—as fresh and satisfying and cooked to order as it was. The ambience is early-mid 20th century brasserie, appropriately enough. Service was excellent—attentive, but not the least bit intrusive. I look forward to the next opportunity to have dinner there—maybe the farmhouse chicken.
My fish was excellent but overpriced at $42 for a casual place; as well, the wine by the glass of $15 was quite expensive relative to the place and quality of wine options. This is a neighborhood bistro, not a destination restaurant. The chopped salad appetizer was tasteless.
We were very happy with our meal. The price point was reasonable, the waitstaff professional and attentive. Portions perfect without leftovers which we prefer. The somm guided us to an Albert Boxler pinot noir that paired perfectly with my husband's mussels as well as my soft shelled crab special.
When traveling, it is always great to find a neighborhood off the beaten track!
We had the salmon and roasted chicken. Both were very tasty and well presented dishes. They have a very good selection of wines. Attentive service.
Great evening dining outside and the food was excellent.
Delicious cuisine with a pretty diverse menu of meat, seafood and veggie dishes. We ordered and loved the grilled asparagus appetizer, the duck duo, the burger d’alsace and the steak. Cocktail menu had some fun drink selections. Outdoor seating options on a corner makes for great people watching.
Love. Food so good. Getting a bit too expensive especially appetizers.
2 appetizers, 4 entrees and one bottle red wine = $300. That’s a lot.
Better keep up the high standard of food.
Ate outdoors. Lovely night. Food was very good. Great salmon and chicken. One friend had a hamburger which was gigantic but he managed to finish it. Again very good. Prices are what you expect in NYC but they get you on appetizers that seem a bit pricey. Wine by the glass (pinot noir) was quite good for wine by the glass. This place is dependably good.
We will return
Too hot. No air conditioning
Great place. Authentic Alsacian bistro. Great traditional and varied menu. Food excellent. Wine and beer list outstanding. Consistent over the years.
