great neighborhood spot. I go there a lot the service is friendly and the food is always very good.
Although the dinner was okay, we much prefer their brunches.
We arrived at 6:30 and ordered before 7:00 and the rack of lamb special was no longer available!!!!!!
Terrible draft from vent. Changed tables twice. Hamburger was raw and ordered medium rate.
Good meal the artisanal cider was a great discovery .
Never dissapointed -- we were looking for a place to meet friends, it was time to catchup post holidays and Cafe D'Alsace was the perfect place - So many options -- appetizers that can be a main, interesting specials (usually a bit higher priced than entrees, if price is a concern ask before ordering.) Everyone cleaned their plate (two of us had specials -- one was rack of lamb, the other lobster out of the shell over pasta, and two had menu choices - one chicken, other duck) -- a few appetizers, one dessert, and some wine and cocktails. Total bill per person neared $100 but that's to be expected from what we ordered.
The food was very good and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, service was cursory at best and not very attentive—both servers who helped me ignored my table most of the time. They basically just hung around at the end of the bar chatting with the bartender.
Went there for New year’s Year’s Eve everything and it was great however the three course prefix was a bit expensive
Other than that, great evening
Les plats sont très abondants! Excellente Choucroute garnie, le canard à l’orange aussi. L’unique problème: les tables sont très petites pour 4 personnes, par exemple.
Had a great table in the back. Love the decor
Best and (probably only)choucroute in NEw Yrok city !
Great bistro in a good location.
We have dined ar Café d'Alsace many times, and it never fails to delight. The food is just delicious, and the décor is charming. The only downside is that it gets very crowded and noisy: the lovely tile on the floor does little to baffle the sound. Definitely a neighborhood gem.
A great neighborhood bistro, as good as any similar boîte you might find on a side street in Paris. Always welcoming and comfortable with something for every taste and occasion on the well-priced, authentic menu which changes seasonally but retains some favorites. Well-priced wine list where you can find some good values.
I was basically told I needed to leave for the next reservation. There were 6 open tables when the hostess came over
My table didn’t get to finish there entrees and my daughter wanted dessert
We left didn’t say a word and had to buy cake for my child otw home
We had Xmas eve dinner here and one entree arrived 15 minutes after everyone else’s. As is customary we waited for my son’s entree to arrive before we could comense eating. Needless to say everyone’s meal was cold. Who can eat cold bone marrow???
The waiter was great but awful kitchen.
The same thing happened with dessert.
The manager was not professional he barely apologized. And was reluctant to comp anything for the disaster. Finally after I prodded he took $20 off the bill.
The Christmas Eve menu was diverse and very well prepared, especially the Salade Gourmand and the venison loin. However, two squealing babies ruined the atmosphere for virtually the entire meal. Although I asked the Managment politely what they were doing (and was assured they were keeping an eye on things), nothing changed. The crying continued and at one point two different babies were crying. The lovely meal ended up being scarified to the thoughtlessness of the parents and the inability of the management to consider the experience of other guests. I enjoyed the food and have been here for Christmas Eve around 7 times over the last 15 years. Alas, this will be the last time. I’d prefer to spend my money at a place that understood that each of its patrons deserved consideration, not just the least considerate among us.
Booked a reservation in on Christmas Eve. Did not know there was ONLY PRIX FIX MENU AVAILABLE. I have been here before and live close by. We were two petite people dining who could never eat all that food. We asked since we were unaware of this if we could share one complete dinner. The server said he would ask the manager..,server came back and said no. We were shocked! What awful business. The manager could ha e come over to see us personally, but did not. How do you let people who had a reservation, who live in the area leave your restaurant on Christmas Eve when they did not know this was the ONLY option. So much for Christmas Spirit! Will never return
Came here for Xmas eve dinner with my family of 6, including two small kids. Nice staff and great food! Great holiday atmosphere.
Everything was festive and fun!
Always a sure thing at Alsace. The food is very good as is the service.
Beautiful holiday decorations added to the festive atmosphere and delicious and soul-warming onion soup and cassoulet!
Great food all good except noisy. Too noisy
The ability to talk and hear is almost as important as the food
Excellent choice if you're going out as a couple or with friends food is excellent service is great the places fun and energetic I highly recommend
We have been regulars, but sometimes things go wrong. What makes this restaurant stand out is how they deal with what goes wrong. After I posted a review of a negative experience previously, the General Manager, Gabriel Biton, immediately responded with an apology and a $100 gift card to the restaurant. We went again last night and had the best experience! Best table! Great food. Amazing service. Loved meeting the boss! For all the right reasons, and even for the way they deal with mistakes, this is our go-to great restaurant on the UES!
consistently good. It’s a neighborhood restaurant and and we eat here at least once a month.
Nice place to meet up with friends We have spent New Year’s Eve their and had a great time
The menu selections are excellent, but the day's specials were even more attractive, and authentically French. Service was generally excellent, prompt and courteous.
However, we were side-by-side with a table of two loud talking lawyers, and the whole sound level made it difficult to talk to each other. Restaurant was filled early on a Sunday evening.
So -- great for the food. Consider ordering delivery.
Very disappointed, had reservation, still waited 20minutes to get a table. No beer from Alsace, very poor choice of alsatian wine, ordered a classic from Alsace, backeoffe, very bad, darl tasted like it was cooked in veal stick, no real flavor, as I was born in Alsace and cooking professional for over 50 years, this was bad, very noisy place, will not recommend or go back
this was a lovely restaurant,
the food was excellent. Service was very good considering that the place was packed.
the one drawback was the noise level. You could not have a conversation with people at your table. It was deafening.
Great value, our consistently good neighborhood bistro, like being in Paris. Chef Philippe's food is consistently good. We love the place, cosy in winter, sit out on the sidewalk and people-watch in summer. Service can be slow sometimes but usually good and friendly. We will be back.
Excellent restaurant true to it's roots.
Favorite Holiday Restaurant -- Winter, Christmas, heart warming menu.
Service was great. Food delicious and portions are HUGE.
Nice ambiance and good food but on the pricey side for a French bistro. Friendly service. Extremely noisy - we had to shout the whole evening.
delightful lunch date experience. very kind friendly waiter -- we were there till dinner shift time without any pressure. couldn't be a more wonderful customer friendly place -- all that with delicious food in great portions: an a+ all around winner!
Always very good. I noted on the reservation that it was a Birthday lunch and they suprised us with a lovely dessert with a candle.
We went to celebrate my 22 year old son's birthday. The service was very good and the place is energetically loud. We had a cozy side table which worked well since there were three of us. We loved everything we ordered- salmon tartare, chopped salad, grilledbass, duck duo a l'orange and country chicken choucroute. All was delicious and large portions. We also had the molten hazelnut chocolate gateau which was heavenly with vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis. The wine we ordered was outstanding. I can't say enough good things about our experience!
My husband and I were very happy to find last minute, same day availability on thanksgiving. The three course fixed price dinner was great value for money. We went with appetizers and desserts that were part of the original menu (so good hint to what the place is like on regular days) and a turkey dinner. The ravioli appetizer as well as the endive salad were delicious and flavorful. The turkey dinner was a huge portion and had all of the holiday staples. The apple pie and créme brûlée deserts were light and delicious. A $25 half-bottle of old vine zinfendel was a perfecly priced wine to compliment the meal.
Only complaint really is having to repeatedly ask for water and a server who rarely visited the table (took about 5 minutes to get water and menus, no refills on water unless asked, and we poured our own wine after tasting it). This is pretty minor for us, and we will definitely go again!
