Locals favorite. Great French food. You could be in France
Lovely spot for a savory lunch and cocktails. The "Sparkles in the Sky" cocktail is fabulous.
Enjoyed the jazz as we dined. Great service and delicious food. A great find. Thank you.
A friend from NY was here on business, and I had not see her in a long time. Cafe Claude has been my favorite place in SF since 1992, when my co-workers would have Friday lunch there! Also, my favorite place for dinner. The escargot was over the top as usual. I love taking my out of town friends there--still feels like old SF before the tech invasion. The steak was perfect! Wine was excellent. Excellent service.
Celebrated a retirement lunch. Food was delicious and the service with outdoor seating was great.
Wonderful. Delicious French bistro food in an old world setting, yet hip. Keep them busy so they stay for another thirty years.
Nice duck confit, last week excellent brandade, fine service.
An old favorite
Pretencious and food was not similar to real french. Much more expensive than a restaurant in France or Belgium. The service was not so outstanding for requesting a tip of 20% particularly if we compare to french standards.
We enjoyed our dinner, however, we were on the patio and there was a larger party who were so loud, it was obnoxious and inappropriate. The table next to us actually complained to the management. He wasn't going to do anything, but then stood at the door and listened to the loud group of people and determined we were correct and finally said something. Our choices for dinner were the Coq au vin, which was good, the steak, the duck - both ok. The wine took a while to be delivered after our meal was delivered. We did have cocktails prior. Lots of choices for dinner restaurants, wouldn't be my first choice to return soon...
A lovely French cafe. We were shopping in the area and decided to have a late lunch. The staff was attentive but not intrusive We were not rushed through our meal but only encouraged to relax and enjoy
As usual me and my guest enjoyed ourselves a lot.
Great service, food, atmosphere, a great break anytime.
A business lunch at Café Claude. We each started with a salad, my guest had a very tasty looking chicken dish and I had a superb swordfish. My only complaint is I thought the chef was a bit heavy on the salt seasoning. The restaurant was alive with muted conversations. Everyone was smiling. A good sign in a restaurant.
The French wine selection is interesting.
A shout out to the staff, from the greeting by the host to the attentive service by wait staff and assistants. Well done!
Great meal and service. Food was authentic French. Highly recommend.
A wonderful find. Intimate and quiet, it was perfect for dinner and conversation with my daughter who was visiting San Francisco. Service was excellent. We did not feel rushed and were allowed to linger over a delicious dinner. Enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.
Had a great experience at this wonderful French restaurant!!!
Wonderful restaurant, courteous and professional team, excellent cuisine.
One of our downtown SF favorites - very reliable, great service, food is always well prepared and enjoyable.
Love the steak tartare. The mussels are always good as is the turchon of foie gras (French spelling not my forte - except for maybe "forte").
The duck confit is a favorite of mine.
We also love the location == in the alley == that makes it rather interesting.
Friendly server, wonderful food, delightful experience
A good place for French food and wines with moderate prices. Very pleasant staff. The major drawbacks were the volume of music, which could have been quieter and less energetic to allow easy conversation, and the extreme dimness of the restaurant, which required the use of my Smartphone flashlight to read the menu.
Cafe Claude is always a sure bet !!!
As usual great lunch, great waiter. Wine selection: comme on dit en francais: correcte
We were visiting San Fran last weekend and had received a recommendation for Cafe Claude from our hotel. They suggested it was a nice place with music in the evening. We loved it. Sat at the bar and had great service and wonderful food all the while a 3-piece jazz band was playing about 10 feet away. Loved everything about it!
Fabulous food! Seemed like we were back in Paris. Emmanuel was a real professional!
As usual an amazing lunch. I brought a friend with me who had never been before and she loved it. Thank you, Cafe Claude ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice service. Food was average. Not bad but nothing to rave about.
Never had eaten there before. Really nice room, service, authentic french feel, and nice, enjoyable but not extraordinary food. No extraordinary food prep. No high end ingredients. Pricier than it should have been. One salad, one small plate (quiche), one entree (roast chicken) and one dessert and with a half carafe of wine and a couple of cocktails, it was $170 incl tip. Unnecessary.
We liked the restaurant and would probably return. However, it wasn't high end cuisine and we just believed a meal like that ought to be available with a bit more value.
I have dined here many times before. This time, it was a lot busier. I sat at the bar. There was one bartender serving everyone. My entree took way too long, and I had to leave. He also did the “avoid eye contact” trick when I tried to get his attention for a glass of wine. Although he was truly busy, he decided it was more important to talk wine with two other customers who were ordering bottles of wine. I suppose the tip from them was more valuable than providing me good customer service.
We had a great time with wonderful service and amazing food
The quiche was generous and excellent as was the accompanying salad. Good wine pour also.
My guests were quite late and they accommodated us with little fanfare which I know is challenging for restaurants and was appreciated. The restaurant holds lots of tables but arrangement makes conversation possible. Particularly nice are small booths.
Great food and service. Did not enjoy the Afro pop music. Should have jazz. Sinatra or Nat King Cole 😜
A charming romantic restaurant located off a small alley-perfect seating outside weather permitting! The Quiche Lorraine was simply delicious! Great wine selection and the desserts were decadent. We'll definitely come back!
The meal was superb as always and Jennifer made the dining experience very pleasant.
I love this restaurant.
I have been to CC many times, and only on this visit did I find the service to be lacking. Waiter seemed to be off his dot throughout. He was pleasant, though not particularly attentive. His colleagues covered for him. With drinks and dessert it's an expensive lunch, by most standards; on this occasion I felt...underwhelmed.
We loved it! Food was delicious and authentic. Service was lovely attentive. Great place to have a birthday or anniversary celebration, or just to meet friends.
I mad my guest had a wonderful dinning experience. As usual great food, cocktails and atmosphere. The restaurant was busy, but not noisy or disorganized. In 20+ years I’ve never been disappointed. That you Cafe Claude.
Our server was grumpy and not attentive. We sat at the table for at least 15 minutes before he approached. It is a small restaurant and there were empty seats. The cheese board was lovely. Go for a drink and cheese.
A true CLASSIC—I've been going to Cafe Claude for over a decade, and the food and quality of service is authentic French in every way—it's the way to take a Parisian vacation for a few hours without going to SFO! Steak frites, beef tartare, coq au vin, mussels in saffron sauce—the food is impeccably prepared in the class French way, with fresh ingredients and gorgeous presentation. You cannot miss the chocolate mousse for dessert! And at night, a wonderfully relaxed jazz bar with live music. I will continue to come back for the next 10 years, as well.
