The host and service was so welcoming . The food traditional and delicious 😋 perfect with live music
Great food and ambiance. Live music was a pleasant surprise!
Food was delicious! Really impressed with the food, ambiance, service, and entire experience, will definitely go back. Steak tartare was stellar.
Good fond, good service
A little bit too noisy with the orchestra.
Such a little gem! Tucked in an alley and nicely decorated it is great for a special occasion or date night. Service was great and not rushed at all. Food was very good, loved my trout, and all so very French.
Seems to be resting on its laurels. Kitchen needs a re-boot.
Lunch menu is identical to dinner menu, and portions are large so come with an appetite. I started with an aperitif of Lillet Rouge (first time in years) with a proper lemon peel twist, followed by piping hot escargot under pastry puff "hats", then steak tartare, then salade maison, a whole head it seemed of Boston lettuce with a delicious champagne vinaigrette , and a dessert of chocolate mousse. Except for the soft whipped butter which didn't do justice to the bread, everything was superb.
The puff pastry atop the escargot was a pleasant twist from what I'm familiar with. Also had the crispy duck and would highly recommend it. Can't recall everything that was involved, but it all worked well together. Looking forward to visiting again next time in San Francisco!
Fabulous food, and the waitress was the BEST ever! it was such a special day to celebrate a very big award!
We love France and could not be there for our Anniversary, so the next best was to find a French restaurant in the newly defined "French Quarter" in SF. Cafe Claude was perfect down to the typical French alley location on Claude Alley. The best eateries in France seem to be down some alley where only the locals go. It was charming inside with choices to seat..a cozy room, in the lobby alcove where you can view all 3 areas, the main dining room with vaulted beamed ceilings with tables and half booths, and the bar/jazz room with booth and bar seating. Whatever mood you are in..you can choose your ambience. The food...was perfect! Coq au Vin was moist, escargot topped with pastry was fresh and new, onion soup (not salty-TY!), the Fromage plate...had to take half back to hotel! The trout was recommended and wasn't "fishy" but tasted like salmon, very mild. The skin was undetectable and like rice paper..the BEST choice on the menu I think. The bed of green beans had sweetness from the raisins and capers for salt. AMAZING! The drink menu was fun and recommend the Renaissance. Edible flower garnish. The interior of Cafe Claude is welcoming, the staff super friendly and Taylor our server, was helpful and considerate. The back staff was very attentive. I can't say enough, except at our business meeting the next day, everyone in the office had made Cafe Claude their local favorite for business lunches and relaxing after work dinners. The atmosphere, dining experience, and jazz played that night ranged from 30's to current and truly made you feel you were transported to France. Thank you!!
The food and service was excellent
We were treated exquisitely for our 24th wedding anniversary. A perennial favorite, for damn good reason.
Excellent service, food, music!
My waitress was excellent!
Great French food. As good as any restaurant in France. Been to France several times, and Cafe Claude is right up there!
Food is delicious and servings our generous. Can’t wait to go back and experience this excellent restaurant again!
We had a lunch reservation at 12pm. Perhaps we arrived too early? It seemed like the restaurant was still setting up. We were never greeted by our server. We gave our food order to the bartender because it didn’t seem like we had a waiter assigned to our table. Food came out fast and was very hot and tasty. It may be worth a second chance in the future, but in the meanwhile there are lots of other restaurants in SF that I would try before going back to Cafe Claude.
The reception and service were adequate. The seating was comfortable.
But the food was a big disappointment. My fish, in a casserole, and my wife's, a leg of duck, were absolutely dry and over cooked. Was that a left over reheated meals?
The food had nothing French about it. It was not worth to call the chef to complain!
First and last time to visit.
I have often enjoyed Cafe Claude. This time I was hosting my three young granddaughters. In spite of their ages (9 & 11) they enjoyed the meal. It allowed them to expand their food horizons. We sat outside, enjoyed the summer weather, and listened to the entertainment music as we ate. A very pleasant evening.
The food ranged from delicious to adequate, depending on what we ordered. The trout dish my husband had was fantastic, whereas my coq au vin was fine. We recommend the Salad Lyonnaise. The service was adequate. We had to wait 15 minutes for a glass of wine and 10 minutes for a Shirley Temple.
Consistently wonderful. Best steak tar tar in the city. Awesome wine list, they change the menu frequently. Just a gem!
Lovely French ambiance. Great food...all the typical French dishes you'd expect - coq au vin, escargots, duck confit, salads Niçoise etc. And all skillfully prepaed. Will return next time we visit SFO!
Nicoise salad looked nice (despite the canned tuna), but had NO taste. Salade Lyonnaise had no egg on it!?
Enjoyed a delicious dinner with friends on a Tuesday evening. Our party ordered the onion soup, stone fruit and tomatoes salad which were delicious. Our entrees were the crispy duck canard with lentils and the short ribs special of the evening. Paired with a wonderful cabernet sauvignon, it was a memorable meal. Our table was secluded and the wait staff perfectly attentive. Will come back again on an evening with jazz music (Thursday-Sunday)
Superb! Excellent service, food, ambiance. Would highly recommend!
Wonderful gem in the busy city!! Favorite spot for lunch.
Lovely little French bistro in the heart of the Financial district. There are several small areas in the main indoor restaurant so it doesn't feel crowded and it is possible to feel like you have some privacy. The outdoor seating is in Claude Alley and very comfortable with a tented area and heat lamps, however you are in an alley so for the most part you are staring at brick walls although there is a mural painted on part of it. There are also unobtrusive security guard stationed at each end to keep vagrants and other disheveled types from bothering diners.
Food is eell prepared a nd it is a good value.
We tried to seat us outside at a table with puddles of water under it. The waitress acted unaware of the issue until we complained & asked to be seated elsewhere (there were lots of available tables).
We were moved to another table outside right near a large air vent ( it was evening & getting colder). So we moved ourselves to another table in the corner. The atmosphere outside was shabby unlike the interior which was the opposite. Yet we paid the exact same same high price for our meal as everyone else.
Food was overpriced. The canard confit tasted like a smoked duck leg, nothing like a confit. The steak frites was not cooked to the temperature that I requested and lacked flavor.
They kept on bringing out food to the neighboring table. They didn’t have the wine we requested and the server then proposed wines that were all above the price range we asked. We settled on a $7 » Pinot noir, and the box wine I have at home is better.
Overall extremely disappointing and over priced.
Great food, reasonably priced in a very nice atmosphere.
We really enjoyed the supper club ambiance at Cafe Claude. The live jazz trio complimented our delicious meal. It was a great way to celebrate our anniversary.
Wonderful restaurant with a very attentive staff. The trout was cooked perfectly with wonderful flavor.
Wonderful evening. Food, staff, and music were all excellent. Highly recommend everything on the menu. Plus an excellent wine list.
Great service, nice ambiance. Excellent food. Good value. Definitely go again
I went to Cafe Claude with my adult family on a Sunday evening. We chose it for the french food and price point. The food was very good and true to a restaurant billing itself as French. To our surprise, they had a jazz trio playing, and they were excellent and delightful. It was a bonus to the evening.
Incredible! Service was great. Drinks were good and always the perfect temperature. Music was classy. Not too loud not too quiet. Charcuterie board we had was easily top-3 ever and I’ve had some CB’s in my day. Can’t wait to go back.
Loved the remodel of Cafe Claude. We have b ben ting to this cafe off & on since 1993. We wil be back.
Veey quaint little spot with delicious food and charming service. The Brie en croûte was so good!
It's pricey but the food is good. My only complaint is one of my pet peeves: Food delivered by someone other than the waiter, doesn't know what goes where, has to ask after it all over again. An officious person swoops in at the end to deal with the check, and is quick about it. This is a compliment, not a criticism. Thank you.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The food was incredible. The service was good. The ambience was perfect. It was a little pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. We will absolutely return again.
A nice surprise. We went for the onion soup and ended up enjoying the whole experience. Well done.
