Proudly serving you for over 27 years!
The food was delicious, the cocktails were great, and the service was excellent.
Very poor communication regarding fixed menu. Made reservation and was not told the menu was fixed. Meal was nice presentation but I dont like Avocado, or seafood. meal was Steak and Lobster - Steak was cold and undercooked.
Several other tables were also upset at fixed menu and we over-heard Maitre D' calling other reservations for later that it was a fixed menu. I enjoy this restaurant when it has its normal menu.
Waiter was excellent, but disappointing experience.
We decided to visit Café Chianti after a couple of years as we knew that it was under new ownership. The restaurant still has a very warm feeling to it however the music being played did not match. The service by Sophie was excellent. The Caesar Salad was the most bland I have ever tasted. We asked for additional dressing but it had no flavor. (where is the garlic flavor)? The Main courses were better but still not up to the standard you would expect from an Italian restaurant. Overall a poor dining experience except for the service.
Excellent food. Probably best bruschetta and ravioli I’ve ever had. Good service and romantic place.
All in all an excellent Italian dinner.
We and our friends both had our Anniversary supper with you and it was a most enjoyable evening. The food was good and the server was fine but seemed very unsure of himself. Suggestion is that with lamb choices on the menu that you have mint jelly as a choice of codiments. Also disappointed that when I emailed the restaurant prior to my reservation I never received a reply. Otherwise satisfied overall.
Everything was great but they set us in front of the door on a very cold night.
Lovely atmosphere if seated off to the side. The food was very good but not as terrific as our previous visit. Still, this is a Gemstone spot to share a lovely meal with someone special or anyone, for that matter.
A wonderful experience which will be repeated. We found the atmosphere very relaxing and inviting. The speed of service was exceptional and the taste and quality of the food was second to none. Service was friendly and very efficient.
Food was outstanding. Ceasar salad was probably the best I've ever had
Food was not properly seasoned. Salt needed to be brought to the table. Pasta (smoked chicken linguine) was held too long and arrived at table stuck together, no flavour of lemon or smoked chicken in dish. Lasagna was pedestrian. Gnocchi was gummy. Pasta dishes were, on average, $10 more than other Italian restaurants and not nearly as good. Service was good.
I don’t even know where to begin! My husband and I went for New Years Eve and were NOT disappointed! I was blown away by the level of food and service considering NYE is always such a busy night. We had a 7 course set meal that was incredible (loved the duck), and the music and lighting were perfect! Not too loud or too dark. Our servers name was Sunny, he was great and attended to everything we needed. At one point my husband had accidentally dropped his fork and within 15 seconds Sunny was already over giving him a brand new one. I have been to Chianti before and I must say I am always impressed with them- this is why we keep coming back! Thank you Chianti for giving us such a wonderful start to 2019!
Excellent food and service. Too quiet though. Only 3 tables occupied in the entire restaurant during dinner service.
The food is not as good as in the past. Hubbie had to send his pasta back, too hard and the cheesecake was dry (yes, dry cheesecake...)
Haven’t been there for anything but a group party and dinner. So hard to recommend for anything else. Perhaps will try an afternoon tea sometime
My review is being sent to the establishment itself.
Poorly organized New Year's Eve dinner. Made reservations on OpenTable via Cafe Chianti website for 6pm. Told upon arrival that there were specific seatings only at 5, 7 and 9pm and that it was a special fixed menu at $100 per plate. This information was not posted on Chianti's website!
Food was delicious but not worth its value at such a high price -- 7-course menu for $100. Digby scallops (ONE scallop); applewood smoked duck with wild mushroom ravioli (three slices of duck with ONE ravioli); passion fruit sorbetto (shaped into a ball roughly the size of a cotton ball); prosciutto wrapped halibut (decent sized at ~2" diameter); grilled rib-eye (2" strip); raspberry sorbetto (single spoonful); brandy coffee cake (1" square); "complimentary" glass of Prosecco. Definitely not a good value at roughly $14 an item.
New Year’s Eve always a challenge. We were in the 7 pm (middle) seating. Slow to start and service efficient but not really attentive. Course pacing not great but the entire meal plan was ambitious. I would have preferred a 4 course set menu with wines to the 6-7 courses without.
Very disappointed in the NYE meal. Booked on open table and was not advised of the set menu until it was too late to book elsewhere.
Everything about my experience here was excellent!
Would have rated food as "outstanding," but a touch heavy on the salt with our main courses.
Appetizers were outstanding, and we have little doubt that the restaurant typically serve up outstanding cuisine. Thus, we will be back.
We had two extra parties join in and the staff at Café Chianti were happy to slide another table over to accommodate our group.
Sunny recommended several appetizers and mains--this guy knows what he is talking about.
Excellent food...excellent service..ask for Sunny..he's the best!!
I loved we could book our table on line. Our server Jen was fabulous. She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make recommendations for one of our party that is gluten free and a picky eater. There were lots of choices for the vegetarian, the carnivores and the 'I'll eat what ever you cook' that made up the rest of our party. My only complaint (a slight one) was our table did not have a lot of light for menu reading. We could still read the menu but I would have preferred a little more. We have dined here before with our out of town guests and they were more than happy to return again on this trip. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Halifax.
Nice people very good food
Lobster was amazing
Very good lokel wine
My wife and I don't eat out very often, so I chose this place for her birthday. It delivered on all fronts, providing an upscale atmosphere with excellent selections and decor.
Excellent traditional Italian food in a stylish ambiance, and well located. Will definitely be back!
We have dined here many times with both excellent and disappointing experiences. This wasn't our best visit as the restaurant was extremely busy and there were lapses in service timing. Overall, the food and staff attitude were positive enough to try again another, less intense time.
The noise was incredibly loud, which I don't call energetic as your review does, but simply concussively stupefying. I couldn't hear my colleague with whom I was dining.
Great atmosphere but I found the temperature rather chilly and and the dining room too dark. I used the flashlight on my cellphone to view the menu. The food was fantastic. Loved it.
The food was excellent and even though we were still there past their closing hour, and we were the second to last table to leave, our waitress never gave the slightest indication . very relaxing meal
The food was way overpriced and had virtually no taste.
Dinner with a very good friend to celebrate her birthday.
Only issue was why somebody would bring a newborn to a restaurant like that. The baby was a bit fussy but could have been an all out bawling session. They could have been seated in the lounge side
One of my favourite places to eat. I love how multiple staff tend to you throughout your meal!
Food was ok, pizza not ok...caprese salad had very few mozzarella, almost none...asked for an half bottle of wine , got it in a carafe, didn t see the bottle, which is disturbing...what did I really drink?? The waiter was efficient and smart.
Ok. Not great just ok.
After reading the reviews, I was expecting the food to be much better than it was. The ambiance was good, the service was good, but the food was ordinary and overpriced. I would not eat at this restaurant again.
This was our first time at the new location on barrington st. The food was just as good as I remembered it. My only criticism (which is very, very minor) is that the music they played over the speakers in the restaurant didn’t fit the atmosphere.
Great evening!! Thanks
The food was overpriced and the service so-so. I never got a refill on my water which sat empty for 1/2 the meal.
