Café Centro Ratings and Reviews
I would not recommend Cafe Centro for dinner. It's a big restaurant and the ambiance is nice as well. However, the quality of food and service were both lacking. I would say it's a good place to grab a drink after work but not ideal for dinner and/or special occasions.
We went for restaurant week menu. I ordered duck and found it was under cooked and very chewy. The vegetables are ordinary. The appetizer was good but the desert seemed cheap. My friend ordered grilled rainbow trout and it was a better choice. I was expecting much nicer food at the price of $42. The service was good. I'm not saying it's a bad restaurant but I feel it's very ordinary and there was not much special about this place.
Went for restaurant week. Had never been before and was excited about finally going, but found it a bit disappointing. The heirloom tomato appetizer was good, the duck was good but not great, and the baba au rum dessert was a bit stale and couldn't taste much rum.
Altogether was a bit underwhelming. While it wasn't bad, I would try something else next time.
My husband and I came to Cafe Centro for our one-year wedding anniversary before seeing Hamilton and we LOVED it. We were here during restaurant week, so I cannot speak for the prices traditionally, but everything we ate was clearly made from fresh ingredients, were the perfect portion sizes, had great flavor, and presentation-wise looked lovely as well. My husband and I were in Paris for part of our honeymoon last year, so the dishes were exactly the type of fare we wanted to celebrate our one year of marriage! HIGHLY recommend!
I have been dining at Cafe Centro for many years and every time I go, I go with family or friends and we all ended having great time. Great food, the service is very good and very good selection of wines.
For a very romantic dinner for two, you can always enjoy the Chateaubriand. You can not go wrong with that. Specially if you enjoy a very good Fillet Mignon.
But also the Beef Bourguignon is a very authentic French dish served at Cafe Centro.
I will highly recommend Cafe Centro for any ocasión you need to celebrate, you will not be disappointed.
Have eaten here many times, but this visit was not up to usual standards. Waitress had an attitude and got snippy when we requested bread ( table seated after us had their bread for some time when we asked). Food was decent but also not as good as on prior visits. If it were my first visit, would not return.
I've been to Cafe Centro three times over the past few years and it never disappoints. The menu, service, and overall atmosphere are all wonderful. I'm from Connecticut and it's one of my go to restaurants when visiting NYC. If you're looking for great food in a fantastic Art Deco setting, it's a must try!
I have been dining @ cafe centro for over 15 years
The food service atmosphere has always been perfect
This past Saturday was certainly off
They mention they have a new chef & GM
Food was ok a bit salty cold
Server seemed a bit overwhelmed she had very little help
I asked my steak to have the sauce on side
It arrived with sauce
Some items on menu was not available but are reservation was @ 5:30 when restaurant opened
It was a celebration / so that was more important
But was not the normal excellent experience
Will visit again
But was disappointed
Ordered from the French Restaurant Week menu and I was disappointed. When I asked about the scallops, I wish our waiter mentioned that there were only 2 of them. To be fair, he did say that he steak would be more filling. I've eaten here several times and have never been so underwhelmed. It's a convenient location but I don't think I'll be back.
The staff was nice but when I asked for a booth I was told that they are pre-requested despite the fact that the restaurant was half empty.
Then when we finally sat, breakfast took 45 mins to be received , unbelievable and unacceptable for 2 scrabbled eggs and a Greek yogurt when the restaurant is half full.
The server was very knowledgeable about the options. The specials felt well-considered. We had ordered the chicken bouillon with foie gras added and the grilled flat iron steak for entrées. For appetizers we had the escargot and the parisian style gnocci. Everything came out in a timely manner. Great balance of butter with the seasonings in the escargot. The chicken was tender as can be and the foie gras was really complimented by the broth. The steak was around 6 oz, seared all around and a perfect pink throughout. The only major complaint I have would be not having the scallops or the chocate terrine available for the first day of French Restaurant Week. The dishes that were there tasted amazingly though.
