I had not been to Cafe Centro in a few years, but I am pleased to say that it is still a great option in the Grand Central area. The menu has elements of both French and Italian cuisine, and the appetizer and entree I had were both quite good. On the night I went, there was a prix fixe menu. While I did not opt for the prix fixe, I was able to order items a la carte from the prix fixe menu. I was also delighted because I left an expensive umbrella at the restaurant at the end of my meal. The staff was kind enough to hold the umbrella so I could claim it the next day. All in all, I and the three people with whom I dined had a good experience.

I've been to Café Centro at least 20 times and it is always consistently good. The food and service were outstanding, Café Centro never disappoints.

Usually very pleased with food but the Cobb Salad was a major disaster. Otherwise, glad to see service improved after a down period.

This a favorite spot for my friend and I to meet and celebrate. this time is was her birthday we were celebrating. and I give them high marks in all.
Having said all that , I did have problems making the reservation this time.
When asked on the website if I had special requests, I mentioned it was a birthday and would prefer a window table...unfortunately the website seems to have not been working properly as it kept asking me each time I tried to do it again, which I did 2 more times, so the 3rd time I figured it went through but, when we mentioned to the hostess she went to check on the notes and said they were no notes...
Long short I we did not have a table by the window and when asked to change ,they were already reserved...long story short we got 2nd best a table away from the window...my friend was a good sport about it but it did put a little dumper on the celebration. at the beginning

I arrived on time for this reservation. I checked in 3 times with the polite hostess. Because I was never seated, after 30 minutes I had to leave. Then I received an Open Table email with their “no show” policy.
Unacceptable behavior by both cafe centro and open table. And 100% unnecessary

This restaurant is one of my very favorites. It's only downside is the noise level at lunch. Dinner is not as crowded, the service is excellent and the fool delicious. Do give it a try if you are in the Grand Central neighborhood or coming into the city on the train. perfect!!

I've dined here many times over the years and the food is usually pretty good. That's why I come back.
This time we ordered the daily feature, bouillabaisse, which was had lots of seafood, buts was disappointingly bland. I'm not a fire-eater when it comes to food but I found the dish dull. Also the rouille on the piece of bread that came with it had more color than taste. I don't like spicy-hot-burn-the-taste-out-of-your-mouth but it should have been spicy-floverfull. And it wasn't. Where were the garlicky accents that should have been in the rouille that could have added flavor to the soup base? I should have asked but we were gabbing away and I didn't want to take the time to request an adjustment from the kitchen.
Can't beat the location - very convenient to Grand Central Station and Midtown, generally, and it's a pretty and comfortable space. I like the warm congenial lighting and the kitchen area behind glass that's visible from the dining area is an interesting touch as is the fireplace.
It wasn't too noisy that night because we were only two and we had a booth. But I know from prior visits that conversation around a table for five at moderately busy times is not possible without megaphones.

Made a reservation, but still had to wait 15 min past reservation slot. Very noisy. Food was ok, nothing special. The waitress was the only bright spot. Benefits from convenient location at Grand Central, that’s it.

We had the $38 prix fixe lunch, and it was worth it: delicious steak and branzino with accompaniments, and espresso pot de creme. We had a corner table for two, so, sitting next to each other, we could almost hear each other and have a conversation. But, boy, was it loud once the room filled up for lunch! Don't go here if anyone in your party is hard of hearing.

We have been to Centro several times and the food had been satisfactory. However the food and service this time was outstanding - all dishes were delicious - definitely must be a new creative Executive Chef - I highly recommend the Centro

I had the terrible idea of picking this restaurant for lunch. It was very crowded, we had to wait 15 minutes for a table despite having a reservation. We were not alone, people with a reservation were almost fighting to get a table. Then, the food was so-so!. Prices were high for such a simple food.

Not worth it!

Good central location for meeting and acceptable noise level. Food is good, reliable, but pricey for what it is. I chose for prix fixe menu online, but another menu was served, which annoyed me. That said, we found good alternatives. Waiter thought Malbec was a light red wine. It is not.

It was fine for a quick breakfast with a visiting speaker before a late morning meeting. I reserved for 9:45, and my colleague's train was a bit late, and i surprised to be told that the kitchen closed at 10. It all worked out, but it might not have my guest said the eggs benedict was excellent

Nice place, good food, great service. Construction going on forever at Grand Central Station surrounding streets. Takes away form the atmosphere. Good oysters and escargot and nice pre-fix menu. Sword fish was perfectly done. Great for lunch and early dinner.

While the beet salad was excellent, it was served before our littleneck clams. The lamb tagine was good, but the beef bourguignon was was so salty the meat wasn't edible. Since our server never checked to see if our choices were acceptable, there was no opportunity to return the beef dish. This restaurant might be much better on another night, but with so many choices in NYC, we'd go elsewhere.

NOT KNOWN TO ME WHEN I FIRST REQUESTED A QUIET TABLE FOR DINNER , WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED FOR DINNER ON FRIDAY, THE ONLY TABLE INITIALLY AVAILABLE WAS A SMALL TABLE NEAR THE FRONT DOOR. APPARENTLY THERE WERE A LARGE TOURIST GROUP FROM ITALY WHO BEGAN TO OCCUPY ALL THE REMAINING TABLES!

We were disappointed in the fish platter which we have ordered many times in the past. The price has increased while the amount and quality of the fish has decreased. The restaurant, unfortunately, is maintaining itself with higher prices or smaller portions. This is understandable, but some of the ambience seems to be going also.

There are some NYC restaurants that you can always count on for excellent food, outstanding service and friendly staff -- plus the location is phenomenal. It is my #1 pick for midtown lunch meetings. Extremely well managed.

We all enjoyed the three course tasting menu. It is a good value and the food was very good. We had the branding and flank steak, both were very good. Service was timely and very efficient. The restaurantnoise was not too loud and we could discuss business without difficulty. Location is terrific and very central to all in midtown and Grabd Central Station.

I've had much better meals here, and I like the ambiance of Cafe Centro very much. I chose the Seafood Risotto that was, in a word, awful. Eatable but not appetizing at all. Billed with shrimps, mussels, octopus, etc. there were two barely cooked shrimp, and limp, bland octopus. The risotto had no apparent seasoning. A big disappointment. My four friends enjoyed their meal and there were no further complaints.

Excellent standby for midtown business or friend lunches when you want to linger and talk. Good menu options, good service, very well-defined identity. The noise is intense in certain parts of the restaurant, but there is a back room on the Vanderbilt side that is light and airy and considerably quieter.

Never had a bad or even mediocre meal here. New chef is right on track. Service was perhaps a tad less great than in the previous 19 years I've eaten here, but still good. Tables and seating is very comfortable, and you can sit and talk with no bother or rushing. Still one of my favorites.
