A quick, early breakfast with colleagues to plan the coming day. Service was attentive but not overbearing. I often have business lunch at Cafe Centro and it is always perfect. And, the location is perfect in the middle of the Grand Central area.
Convenient choice after a show for the public transport crowd. Centro has a standard French Cuisine menu, but it is more, much more than a standard French meal. Shrimp Cocktail combines both cocktail sauce and remalade in one dilectable oversized dish. Beef Bourguignon is an unexpectedly brillent single cut of stewed beef with a wine reduction that rivals the formerly unsurpassed nirvana of Westport, CT, Bistro Du Soleil bill of fare of the same signature. Well worth the trip and price tag.
Not the Centro I remember from a decade ago.
So looking forward to the pomme frites I remember. What was served was Not even close - would have preferred McDonald’s French fries!
Having friends who use grand central for commuting, cafe cento is our go to restaurant. While a little pricey, booths are comfortable, service is outstanding and seasonal menu is always correct and reliable...
Great for business lunch. Love the convenient location.
Wonderful service, delicious cosmos, limited wine selection but the wine we had was really nice! Food was really good but just a word of warning if you do not eat goat cheese - the beet salad has goat cheese but it isn't listed as an ingredient. The helpings are very generous, and we shared our plates and they kindly served us our meal separated. The brussels sprouts are to die for!
Chose it for the location, value and Art Deco decor. Turned out to be a great choice for my birthday. Sat by a fireplace, o cozy and everyone was happy and impressed. Will definitely be back!
Good, but not outstanding
We ordered a chopped salad with chicken. Chicken was under-cooked, bloody. They replaced with a chopped salad with salmon which was fine, however, timing of meal was off, we didn’t eat together. Nothing was comped after pretty big mistake.
A party of 6 long-time friends picked this for a reunion dinner on a Wednesday night. Chose over another place that had strong food reviews, but was supposed to be 'loud'. Cafe Centro was perfect. They gave us a nice round table with views of the kitchen and streetscape. The lighting was warm and cozy, the sound level was low, enabling us to talk, and laugh, from 6:30-9:40. The service was attentive, we never felt rushed, and everybody loved their food. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for dinner...great setting for romantic dates, or get-togethers when you want to be able to discuss without shouting over music, with lighting bright enough to see everybody at the table. There were other groups there as well, but we really felt like we were having a dinner in NYC in a friend's house...no crowding, no loud music, no loud bar noises, great food and ambiance. My impression is that this restaurant is much busier at lunch time, or perhaps on a different night. A great find for a group...we hope to return!
Celebrating new year’s eve early with friends.
I have been to Cafe Centro many times over the years and it never disappoints.
was wonderful, atmosphere festive , service wonderful, and food amazing. The butternut soup superb, The wine that the waiter suggested was amazing. Since my husband is french he loved the lunch and the wine
Enjoyed a lovely Christmas Eve dinner. We were treated very nicely - made to feel really welcome. Unlike some other restaurants we have gone to on Christmas Eve, we had a pleasant relaxing meal. We enjoyed the scallops, filet mignon and crab cakes. The pot de creme was very rich and tasty and we had cookies with our coffee. It was a lovely part of our holiday.
Service was horrendous! Actually had to get up from our table twice to locate a server. Food was good but pricey for what it was
Would not go back due to poor quality of service
We were very impressed with the service. We had six in our party and were seated in front of as roaring fireplace. The waiter was attentive, the food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there !
Lovely atmosphere, so busy! Our waiter was there quickly and was very efficient. it is always a little tough getting your bill when you finish your dinner. Takes a while.
Service is personal and sincere. Best place in midtown for lunch, after work gathering and fine meal.
Convenience is its outstanding characteristic with good food a close second.
A good place for lunch or dinner near Grand Central Terminal. On the expensive side but the decor is nice and the service is very professional.
Table for six was ready but too near the wait station to suit me. Service was reasonably good. Waiter was harried and it unsettled a few folks who were a few minutes late and felt very rushed when he pushed us to order. Food is now a step below where it used to be. Tuna tartar is a mish mash of guacamole and tuna (ugh) covered with two uninteresting water crackers. This USE to be the best thing on the menu. Must be a new chef. The roasted chicken that they were well known for is now just ordinary and covered with sauce. Not nearly as nice as it was previously. I have dined at CC at least 100 times and while not disappointing it was not memorable ...even though our crew enjoyed their lunch. It strikes me that CC is on its last legs and needs to hit the refresh button quickly
An evening of great service, food and close to GCT!
I had a great meal and it’s a fun place but the noon-time bartender the day we were there was SO unfriendly. That’s so important to get right because they’re usually the first impression while waiting for your guests/table. The Croque Monsieur was amazing.
Food was only average (very well made omelette, fries were subpar). But excellent and attentive service, and I compliment the servers and other workers with high marks because lunch time is crazy. I would return and order something different from the menu.
This place is my mid town standby and has been for about five years. Food is always good, fresh reliable. Same with service. Great to meet people because basically at Grand Central without being inside the station. Doesn’t disappoint...
Annual holiday lunch - for 10 years we have had lunch @ CafeCentro.
The service was excellent. The food was really good and the pre fix menu has really nice choices. Coming in from the cold being near the fireplace was so pleasant.
My wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary here in December. It was our first time here and we were extremely happy with the quality of the food and service. We plan to go back but next time bring our adult children to dine with us.
Very good French bistro food. Service was if anything a little too rapid. Main course was delivered less than 10 minutes after ordering.
I go to this restaurant quite frequently. It is close to my work and the menu is interesting. The food is very good with a nice selection of wine by the glass. The restaurant itself is quite inviting but it can get noisy at peak times. I would recommend it.
Sophisticated spot for business meals. Old-school attentive service. If you remember the classy Manhattan business lunch of yesteryear, this is the spot. Can't go wrong here.
Daily special of trout was great.
Unfortunately of the three in our party one entrée arrived that was not what was ordered. While the other two were delivered at the same time it would’ve taken 15 minutes to have the dish remade. The noise level is loud. Otherwise it was fine and I will still dine with you!
This is our first time there. We arrived 20 minutes earlier and got sat immediately. Our server was very friendly and the food tasted amazing!! The ribeye was cooked medium rare, just the way I wanted, my son order scallop and it really good too. We will definitely recommend this place and come in the future
Always a great location. Food is really good and service outstanding. A little loud for business discussion, but doable.
Usually love this restaurant but the food this time was not as good.
Did they change the chef? i wonderd.
Service was ok but not very good. Did not ask for coffee or bread refills, didn’t feel cery attentive.
Café Centro is a great place to meet especially with friends who take Metro North. Conveniently located near Grand Central Terminal, it's easy to get to. The prices are a bit on the high side, but the pre fixe is reasonable. Expect the wine to be Manhattan prices. Service was wonderful, and despite the noise level, if you sit in a banquet, you can have a decent conversation.
Birthday. Excellent food&service
Good business lunch, nice service and food, little expensive for lunch, but a nice place.
They greeted my friend celebrating his birthday with a card from the staff and brought a complimentary slice of birthday cake for dessert. The service was amazing. Top notch place!
