My husband and I eat dinner out about three times a week. We have gone to Café Centro off and on over the last ten plus years given its amazingly convenient location at GCT. Food has always been OK, as well as the service. However, during this last visit, the food was exceptionally good--Bibb salad with feta, filet mignon, grilled salmon and a superb, moderately priced Syrah. The service, similarly, was exceptional. The waitress was very good. However, I have to give a huge shout out to the sommelier who, not only gave me excellent advice on a moderately priced wine (which I always appreciate) but also helped to move us to table by the window when a large group of people wearing VERY STRONG perfume sat down beside us. Do know, we have never requested to be moved before at any restaurant. The sommelier saw us trying to do so ourselves, immediately stepped in and facilitated the move to a lovely spot. He was extremely gracious and we were extremely appreciative. So, great food, wine and service. Will start going to Café Centro more frequently now for dinner.
Our butter had a long hair in it and when we brought it to the attention of the waiter, he apologized, however, we would have expected more.
This restaurant is a solid breakfast place, with good service and very good food. Efficient as well as it's in Grand Central.
Great service and manager came to table and brought us extra sides - which were phenomenal!
Menu covers a lot of different choices making it easy even for the pickiest eater to have a good meal.
Convenient Grand Central location, good service, and good food.
Took too long to get the bill, otherwise, great.
Consistent high quality Dining.
The salmon tartare and croque monsieur were terrific. But for some reason we were seated in an ancillary room when the main room was almost empty. Ask to sit near the fireplace!
The food tasted just like similar dishes in France. The server and manager went out of their way to accommodate special requests.
Monk fish was superb
Good restaurant for business meals in Midtown Manhattan.
Get the skinny fries! I had the Beef Bourguignon, which was tasty but not at all what I expected. Large hunk of meat with a delicious red wine sauce, a few veggies, and homemade noodles beside. (I am used to a more stew-like preparation.) My friend had the steak tartare, which he said was delicious (I don't do tartare, so I couldn't say!), and our other friend had the lobster risotto, which was great as well. Everyone ate the fries that came with the tartare!
Pre-theater dinner at this always reliable restaurant. The salmon was perfectly prepared. The French white wine selections are a bit limited. We were in and out in just over an hour, and didn’t feel at all rushed. Cafe Centro remains on the preferred list.
I had the most fabulous waiter who was wonderful since I had to wait for my daughter. He let me taste the wine he picked out for me and it was delicious. I love this restaurant and go to it often.
Service was wonderful. Special truffle ravioli special appetizer was underwhelming. Sauce was terrible
I had a pleasant dinner from the fixed price menu. I chose the roasted duck which I can recommend.
Food was good. Noise level too high
I really like the ambiance of this restaurant from the moment I step inside. On the two occasions that I've been there, the maitre d' came to our table with very helpful suggestions about wine options. Last time I enjoyed the monkfish on a bed of butternut squash and my friend had the ribeye steak. I look forward to my next visit so I can try other options!
Food and service were fantastic only it was very loud and a little hard to have a conversation - would definitely go again but not during 12-1:30 time frame. Been there for breakfast too, very good and not as loud as lunch.
While the menu is a bit pricey, the portions are a good size and well prepared. The prix fix menu basically gave you a free desert. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Kudos to the manager for checking on us several times and stopping by to chat.
favorite Midtown East restaurant. And convenient to my office. Greg is a great bartender and the hostesses are very attentive
It met expectations . Good service and the food was just right for a “regular” lunch
Perfect setting and location for the three of us - close by to home in Manhattan & to rail for one heading out.
Staff members were very welcoming and service was attentive.
Food was exceptional.
Love this restaurant. The service is excellent. Everything was delicious - the best crab cakes. The host was very patient and accommodating in helping us choose the perfect wine for our dinner. Great table near the fireplace. Many thanks for a wonderful dining experience
My client loves the re2at wk. Menu. We had a great Sancerre and our waiter Ideal was super.
Good service and food
Had a business lunch here. It is a very big and busy restaurant, a little noisy and attracts a professional crowd at lunch. However, the food was very good, the service was attentive, the ambiance was nice and the location, next to grand central station, can't be beat. I will have lunch here again
Excellent meal. The location couldn't be better for friends coming from two different directions to meet. The service, menu, wine and food were all great.
The woman who greets you when you arrive is efficient and welcoming.... every time. She is one of the reasons I use Centro for my business lunches. A huge asset for the restaurant.
Cafe Centro is a reliably excellent restaurant. Great cuisine choices, excellent presentation, and always accommodating staff. A little pricey, but the location and convenience more than make up for it.
The staff were so nice! We accidentally spilled a drink and they were so quick to help - and replace it!
Cafe Centro always delivers! We were 2 couples catching up at dinner. Cafe Centro honored our special request to have a quiet table by the fireplace - a lovely spot, attractive and good for conversation. The Restaurant Week menu was excellent - we had beets and escargot, followed by Veal and Roasted Sea Bass. Service was discreet and thorough. All super. A great evening at Cafe Centro.
Have patronized this restaurant many times. It's usually a good spot for a business meal, if overpriced. Today I had a$20 omelet that had runny eggs. The waiter did not check on us until the end of the meal. Not impressive for the upscale cost.
Bass just isn't exactly "zesty" on its own but as served , this was tasty and filling. Attentive serine, nice setting and view onto the sidewalks of NY all combined for a perfectly pleasant lunch. Central location is just one more factor in Café Centro's favor.
Reliable, goidfood and service. Restaurant Week always an opportunity to try other dishes.
We had dinner for Restaurant Week so we ate from a limited menu. The food was excellent, especially the bass and stewed veal. The ambience was great. Low noise so we could hear ourselves converse. I will certainly revisit this restaurant.
A great place to go for lunch or dinner in midtown. Great service, very good food and super convenient location. The chicken chop salad is yummy!
