Good food in a pleasant setting. Friendly service. We will return.
We were visiting NYC with another couple. We walked by Cafe Centro earlier in the day and liked the way it looked. We decided to cancel our reservations at another place a give Cafe Centro a try. We were all very happy with our choice! My husband and I enjoyed the roasted vegetable salad and our friends each had the French onion soup to start. Both were fantastic! For our main course we had the duck and our friends the halibut. Also, both delicious. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Good food and service. Close to Grand Central. We met old friends and lingered over lunch for hours.
Restaurant is conveniently located. Service is very good. Can get a bit noisy at times, but generally you can have a comfortable conversation with everyone at your table. Food is very good. I tried the chicken salad dish which was excellent.
Make sure they don’t seat you near the open kitchen as there’s a lot of hustle and bustle. Food was good but not as warm as we would have liked. Location is great and convenient for dining in midtown.
Great food, service and ambience convenient to grand central.
Food was very good. Our waiter was terrible, rude, loud, mentioning to the table that he prefers a cash tip. Horrible experience because of this waiter
I've had lunch many times at Centro. Service this time was poor: inattentive. Request for ketchup ignored till second time; omelette was not well done as requested so had to be corrected; after main finished, long wait to get waiter attention to order coffee, lost interest in dessert; had to seek out waitress to get check in a sparse room. All in all not up to usual and past responsive service.
I took two colleagues from out of town here and the variety on the menu was perfect and the waiter was able to accommodate special dietary requirements that other places might have turned up their nose at. The service was fast which was great because we only had an hour for lunch. Recommend.
A bit long date
Waiters never smile
Great all around experience!
Not just reliable, but consistently above the cut. We've dined here for over 10 years and have never had a disappointing experience. Service was impeccable, and our meals were delicious. Hope they get the fireplace working soon, makes a nice touch this time of year.
This was an excellent choice for our group. Everyone had a great time.
The restaurant was convenient for a friend who was took the train in to the city for dinner. The service was good. But the food was pretty blah. Not bad just not very tasty. I would venture somewhere else next time.
The noise level is very high. It was difficult to hear the person across the table from me. The chop chop salad was too heavy on the dressing. Not as good as I remember it. Overall it is still a very good restaurant in a very convenient location.
The food was outstanding - the halibut in particular was amazing. The service was good and the place has a nice atmosphere.
Good food if a bit pricey. Very convenient location.
The salmon entrée was outstanding. The lobster bisque was below average. The tuna tartare was ordered by another member of my party looked fabulous, He said it was outstanding.
It was like someone put all the right things on the menu, but then forgot to hire people that know how to cool. Unfortunately, none of the dishes our party of 7 ordered lived up to their promise. Nowadays there are so many amazing restaurant experiences, that server spectacular food without the pretense of days gone by. This one is doing it backward: all the pompous pretense until you get the food…
The setting is nice, the menu has something for a people with a variety of tastes, and the food is delicious but the service seemed absent-minded. We've been a bunch of times, and it has gotten more expensive but not better.
Hadn't been in the City for a while. This was my #1 restaurant to meet friends. Disappointing this time. Service mediocre, food fair. I won't rush back.
Overall a very good experience.
Great food, solid service, and wonderful location.
Great business breakfast
Both of our meals were tasteless.Service was slow. Presentation middling.
Typical business meeting
Disappointing evening. The duck was dry and tough.
At first we were disappointed in the lack of service, but the manager more than made up for the wait staff (who also apologized)and made us feel very taken care of and happy!!
Have dined at Cafe Centro many times and have always been very satisfied. However, on this occasion, the service was SO BAD that I am seriously considering never going back.
Excellent all around.
Meeting an old friend for lunch.
It was nice to sit outside for lunch and the service was fine but maybe a bit pushy. I was looking forward to the chopped chicken salad as I remember that being very good years ago. However, the salad was way overdressed, soggy and pretty tasteless. I would have sent it back but I was with a client so didn’t want to make a scene. Maybe the chef totally screwed up this time but I won’t get it again
the staff was accommodating to my special requests, friendly to my party and delivered good value for high quality goods
The service overall was terrible. Didn't pay attention. The salad came out as it was premade and sitting for hours (returned to kitchen). Didn't even get a gesture for having to get another dish.
Great food, excellent service and comfortable surroundings.
Danielle was terrific!! Please tell her!
Great place in midtown to have lunch and be able to discuss and hear each other.
This is a gem in the MetLife Building. We went during Restaurant Week. The food was great, presented in a lovely way, and the wait staff was terrific. The restaurant is accessible. Totally recommend and will return!
Nice menu, well executed, and good service. Although the noise level didn't seem excessive, we had some trouble hearing our friends.
Excellent French restaurant in the MetLife Building. Attentive service.
Nice wine list by glass or bottle.
The Cafe has seemed to slip in food quality of late. The chicken in my "chop chop salad" was undercooked (always a health and culinary no-no), rubbery and seemed old. It made me leery of one of my favorite lunch dishes there. Maybe the chef is on vacation, maybe standards have fallen? Not sure. Still like the place, but maybe avoiding this dish for a while. My guest had duck confit that he raved about, so hopefully this was an aberration.
Kitchen must taste before offering a dish ! My grilled trout from the prix fixe menu was smothered in an acidic sauce (vinegar?) so one could not taste it was fish. Been to Cafe Centro several times, this time with an out of town guest (thankfully she did not have the trout dish). This was the worst visit for me.
