About Café Boulud

CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $39 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and a $42 two-course prix-fixe brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 20 guests each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onward.

The food is exceptional. The menu is outstanding with special attention paid to seasonal offerings. We eat here frequently and are always delighted with the experience.

I had the raw fluke appetizer and the striped bass in paper, and the chocolate fondant with Anne. Anne had a mushroom soup and the duck. All was delicious

Really disappointing. Absurdly long waits for the main courses and no excuses or apologies until after we paid our very large bill. Under the circumstances the right thing would have been to Comp our entrees but nothing was offered other than an apology (“the kitchen was slammed, so sorry”). Won’t be returning.

We love this place and visit here several times a year. Food always good. A cold wind just makes waiting for your table a little unpleasant during inclement weather.

Service was great. Food was not original or exceptional. Mediocre and overly salty. Seafood pasta was very fishy and the tartine was bland-the only saving grace was the very powerful blue cheese to add some flavor

Real traditional French restaurant. Food was stylish, delicious but reminding you of classic French. Lovely meal.

What a treat for sunday brunch! Old school class and perfect food. Good portion sizes and lovely little extras from the restaurant - like warm madelines at the end. Couldn't fault the service either. The restaurant interior could do with a 'slight' spruce up - but I'll be back!

Food was ok, definitely nothing to write home about and very surprised by the Michelin rating - I'm beginning to see how biased those are.

The salads were overdressed and the duck was swimming in sauce... not a horrible meal, but I would skip.

The restaurant was very quiet and yet it took 15 minutes to get my cappuccino. My eggs came out cooked wrong, we had to flag servers down to refill our coffee. Plus our food wasn't even hot-just lukewarm. Very disappointed but I think it was just an off day.

Cafe Boulud is a New York City gem. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there on a Saturday evening. The service is very attentive, but not overly so. The timing and flow of the meal was absolutely perfect. The food is prepared to near perfection, and the ingredients are the definition of fresh. We started with the escargot, and it was easily one of the tastiest preparations I had ever enjoyed. You cannot go wrong with any dish. My wife and I both selected pasta-based main courses (she the ravioli, and me the gnocchi), which were both substantial in portion and delicious in taste. We elected to forgo dessert, yet the hostess brought us a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary; a very nice touch! An incredible experience, and one we will repeat.

Good experience except if you are not a regular you might not be treated as well by the receptionist. When my husband and I arrived for our 12:00 reservation, the dining room was completely empty at that point. We were directed to a table not to our liking. (This was a birthday celebration.) When I asked to be seated somewhere else, the receptionist definitely had an attitude and was not at all gracious about the request. She changed our table to one that was somewhat better. She put a damper on the experience. Everyone else at the restaurant was lovely.

Truly Fine Cuisine in a casual/elegant space. Our favorite of the Boulud restaurants.
The finest quality ingredients and refined preparation without being "precious."

Amazing, absolutely amazing!! Everything was divine, from the “for the table” shared plates to each of our dishes (beef tortellini, duck, cedar sea bass, and striped bass) and all the way to the two desserts (chocolate ice cream that came with THREE chocolate chip cookies and a chocolate molten cake).

I just moved to the neighborhood a couple months ago and my parents were in town so we did a double date here with my boyfriend, after a day of adventuring, and loved every second of it. Service was great, food was incredible, and ambience was fantastic!

Excellent food and service. Small portions leave you wanting more but you won’t leave hungry after chocolate truffles and madeleines at the end of meal. We ate outside which was lovely and perfect for people watching on a warm night. A perfect evening.

We were offered the worst seat in the restaurant in spite of many empty seats. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. The waiter pressured us in to ordering even before we received our cocktails. The amuse-bouche "Arancini" was not worth the calories. Mushroom risotto was lackluster. Sea bass was quite good as was a raw fish appetizer. Squab at $45.00 amounted to a few ounces of red-raw meat that was completely void of flavor. The waiter exuded "assumed patience" as well as an I do not give a damn attitude. Dinner for two amounted to $300.00 with tax and tip. This was for years my favorite restaurant. What happened?

Five stars for service doesn't do the staff justice. Our waiter was as attentive, helpful, and friendly as one can possibly be. Ditto the sommelier. The striped bass was perhaps a touch overcooked, but the potage Lyonnais was the best thing I've ever tasted. All in all, a wonderful experience.

Cafe Boulud was splendid. It's a small, upper east side, elegant space. The service was impeccable and the food was superb. The menu was organized into prix fixe selections, but there was great flexibility. While they had plenty of meat options, I had no trouble ordering a lovely vegetarian meal. (as is true in all Daniel Boulud's restaurants).
The cost is high, but the experience is worth it.

Okay I think I reviewed this restaurant many times as we are regulars and dine there often. It is delicious, in a lovely room with well heeled sophisticated mostly Upper East Siders. It is my favorite place to go for lunch or dinner if I didn't make reservations elsewhere.

Nice Sunday brunch. It's great to see such a wide menu for brunch, it does cover most tastes. The restaurant was packed but the service was fantastic, friendly and efficient. The food had some very high notes (amuse bouches, madeleines, the desserts...) and some not quite as high (salad served with steak and eggs lacked dressing) but overall a very tasty brunch. Great wine list but be prepared to spend a lot for quality wines.... We all had a great time.

Food is excellent., wonderful flavors. Atmosphere is a bit stuffy with a good mix of visitors and older patrons. Service was somewhat lacking considering they add in 20% gratuity. We had to ask for coffee refills three times since the cups were small and chilled quickly. It would be better to leave a small carafe on the table. Would go back as the food is so good but the environment leaves something to be desired.

Daniel Boulud never disappoints. The food was superb and the service impeccable. My dining companion and I had the prix fixe lunch (3 courses), which at $45 was pretty reasonable for a fine-dining restaurant in Manhattan. The prices of wine by the glass I thought were a bit high (but again, fine dining in Manhattan). Overall, we had a great leisurely (2-hour) meal.

We first discovered Daniel Boulud when we stopped into the Mandarin Oriental in London after a concert at The Albert Hall. That experience compelled us to visit his cafe in NYC. Dinner at Cafe Boulud was sublime. The service, the food, the atmosphere -- everything about this experience was superb. We had sea bass and duck for entrees and concluded they were the best we have ever had. This place is a must for anyone living in or visiting New York City.
