About Café Boulud

CAFÉ BOULUD features a French-American menu inspired by Chef Daniel Boulud's four culinary muses: la tradition, classic French cuisine; la saison, seasonal delicacies; le potager, the vegetable garden; and le voyage, the flavors of world cuisines.

In addition to dinner seven nights, we feature a $39 two-course prix-fixe lunch six days a week, and a $42 two-course prix-fixe brunch on Sundays. The restaurant is both a neighborhood gem and a destination for food lovers in search of casually elegant dining. Two private dining rooms seating 20 guests each are available for your private entertaining needs, and may be combined to accommodate 40.

The restaurant's adjacent BAR PLEIADES serves inventive cocktails and a luxurious bar menu from 3 pm onward.

Table was not ready when we arrived. Asked to wait "ten minutes" in hotel lobby. Eventually sat down 45 minuets later. First course was prompt. Extended wait for second and third courses. Dessert was beautiful.

We love the Waldorf salad, bread and main courses. However our chocolate cake was too sweetened for finish it all. Great place, comfortable and elegant. We will definitely be back soon.

We had four people in our party. The veloute was somewhat disappointing as the foie gras was completely dissolved in the sauce. Two entrees (the bass and the pork chop) were too dry. We had a very reasonably priced Sicilian, wine which was excellent.

A "never miss" restaurant that delivers with a consistency, lunch or dinner, most establishments manage irregularly.

The service was very nice. The food was very good, but I wouldn’t say great...but a definite repeat even with all the choices in NYC!

We had the prix fixe luncheon. The price was certainly good and the wine pairings were decent, but not exceptional. Although the salad offered in the first course was excellent, the main course--I had the pork schnitzel with spaetzle and red cabbage--was mediocre. The dessert was equal to the main course, unfortunately. We found the ambience of the restaurant to be very nice, and the breads that were offered were really good. Unfortunately, we had been expecting much more, and were disappointed.

we went there for breakfast: honestly, I do not expect much from a hotel restaurant, but to my surprise the service and the quality of food were really good. I had the best croque madame ever! Everything else I tried was delicious. The manager was very attentive and courteous, she attended more than the actual waiter. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or brunch.

Food was excellent as usual and the service was attentive but unobtrusive. I notice an increasing Japanese influence in the menu, all for the better. Duck breast done just right, pink and tender.

Disappointing and very average.

I had pretty high expectations and this turned out to be a very ordinary dinner at prices higher than ordinary. My wife’s pork dinner was over-cooked. My meal was good. Interestingly the two people at the next table had to return their first course to the kitchen - I don’t know why.

The service was good but nothing more than what I expect from any decent restaurant. Likely wouldn’t recommend it to a friend and won’t be going back. The great thing about NYC is there are lots of better restaurants offering better value.

Michelin jumped the gun giving this place a star. Maybe they thought they had to becuse the name of it includes “Boulud”.

In complete fairness, we happened to be dining on one of the coldest nights of the year and we had the unfortunate experience of being placed at a table near the door so we had a draft every time the door opened (which was reasonably frequently). The restaurant offered to move us at one point, but we were well into our meal and declined because at that point we were settled into conversation. So, not the best choice(s) on our part. The menu is what it is cracked up to be - very creative, using a healthy measure of local/seasonal themes. Honestly we had a mixed experience with the food and all agreed that to be the case. Certain items were exceptional (risotto appetizer and the soup) while others were bland (the escargots) and limp without much flavor (sea bass). The souffle for dessert was not worth the effort. And the wine list is generally overpriced (by a lot) with very little of quality in the $125-$225 per bottle range. Either select the bar wine or go for the $350+ and understand you're generally buying a bottle that will cost you about $50 in a fairly priced wine shop. Four of us ate for about $750 with a 15% tip. Not the best money spent and better value available in the neighborhood.

Food was great. The place was totally packed. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. Although the staff didnt make it special (no wishes or complimentary dessert - a bit unlike what was happening on the table next to us) the taste of the food made up for it.

In our party of four, most enjoyed their food but one of us was very disappointed—he said the sea bream and duck dishes had little flavor. Standouts were fluke crudo and the pumpkin soup. Even the baguettes in the bread basket were a bit stale. Service was okay—but long waits between courses. The ambiance feels like a hotel dining room. For all of that, you pay a skyhigh price. I don’t think we will return. Too many other fantastic options in NYC.

Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach is one of our favorite places, but had never been to the NYC version until yesterday. Cafe Boulud NYC is very UES--lots of money floating around and very high prices, especially on the wine list which is largely exorbitantly priced despite a handful of bottles in the $45-60 range. Nonetheless, portions are generous so if you can manage a doggie bag the value proposition increases. Food was well prepared and delicious. Not Michelin star quality, but close. Where things fell down was service which was decidedly inattentive (perhaps because we don't look like UESers!) and spotty--below the standard I have experienced at Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach. All told, however, if you're willing to spend a buck for good, but not fabulous, food, in a somewhat crowded room, then you won't go wrong here.

We have eaten here many times for brunch and dinner. This time was for brunch at 12 on a Sunday. Service was good, but not great. No one came over to explain what was on the charcuterie board, forgotten dessert. Drink service not as expedient as it should be. Very minor to be sure, but more is expected from this fine establishment. The food was fine but not memorable. All but the smoked salmon. The smoked salmon was served with sliced avocado and dill. On the side was pickled onion, cream cheese and a side of capers. No thought what so ever, a run of the mill dish that could have been served at a bagel store. Mr Boulud should spend more time here, it is sadly missing Gavin Kaysen.

I was really looking forward to this meal.we have eaten at Daniel and Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach.
First,we had a reservation and were told the table was not ready and we should go to the bar.
Second we were seated and waited at least 5 to 10 minutes to be greeted
Third, the waiter did not explain the menu and constantly looked over us and seemed very dismissive.
Told him I wanted our steak rare and was told the middle would be which it wasn’t.
700.00 later...probably won’t return

Lovely but...the haute cuisine felt like the emperor’s new clothes. Lobster pot pie came in an enormous dish but had about 3 pcs of lobster and a few pieces of vegetables in a rich sauce. Very underwhelming especially given the price. The service was trying hard but oblivious at times to filling water glasses or just pacing the meal. That said, a very civilized space, olive bread to die for, and in all, a cut above many.
