Absolutely excellent as usual.
I live in the San Francisco area and always try to eat at cafe Boulud when I’m in NYC. I’m never disappointed.
Café Boulud was a bit sterile. Food was ok. Service was ok. The scoop of ice cream for desert was very small. Very expensive and but has opportunities.
We arrived for our reservation, and our table was not ready. We had to wait in the bar for 30 minutes before being seated. During that time other diners appeared to be seated before us. We were not offered anything to compensate for this lengthy delay. We had a brunch reservation, so we arrived hungry after touring the Met. We waited for 15 minutes without anyone giving us an update. After I approached the host, he told me he was working on it. It was very frustrating that we were ushered into a dark bar and forced to wait after having a reservation. The noise level in the small dining room is intense.
When we were finally seated, we were next to the station where the servers enter food items. We actually sat for at least 5 minutes before the server approached us, despite our too close proximity to the server hub. The food was very good. But, it was hard to get over the lengthy delay.
At a recent Sunday brunch, Café Boulud provided an outstanding dining experience! The room is elegant with soft lighting and beautiful appointments, but the food is the star. From the first warm baguette with butter, each of the three courses was delicious. My Frisse salad was outstanding and authentically French with warm lardons, a light dressing and a perfectly poached egg. The Croque Madame was a delectable combination of ham, Gruyere cheese and a fried egg on top of a fresh croissant. Highly recommended!
Formulaic food at a Michelin restaurant
More a food factory than a fine dining
Service was no adequate. Seating arrangement in the restaurant was very confined.
This restaurant does it right, and when that’s the case you get consistency, which is always the challenge - for restaurants and diners; I had not been here for a couple of years and was so happy to return. The menu is creative AND easily understood; the wine by the glass selection, like all Chef Boulud’s restaurants IS the standard, always terrific selections; service was extremely polished and professional. What a lovely experience!
Excellent service and food
Wonderful food and service...as usual.Thank you.
Wow! The food was delicious! I got a pumpkin soup, my husband got French onion soup, and then I got the venison. The desserts, I don’t even know where to begin except that it was so good I took tiny bites to savor. And their coffee was good (I don’t know how many times I’ve had truly bad coffee at a “fancy” restaurant. Not so at cafe boulud. Coffee was a solid good cup). Everything was very tasty and beautifully presented. The wait staff was proactive and very friendly. We’ll definitely go back.
it is much too expensive for what it is. It has deteriorated over time and the food is equivalent to the one of a simple brasserie with 1 star Michelin price. Unless it strongly evolves to its roots, it is fare from being a place to recommend. It is a pity especially when knowing the gastronomy restaurant which is great.
Wonderful experience. Great reminder to come back more often.
Delicious food, I know it’s random but wish our waitress was a bit kinder thank you
It’s a go to place for both food and a quiet place for a business meal. Service is very reliable and professional. Food never disappoints, white truffle appetizer especially.
It was a wonderful experience. The service and the food was Outstanding. It is however extremely pricey, which makes it a place for only Special occasions for most people.
Good food. Nice setting. But they have gotten too far ahead of themselves on cost, particularly with wine. Dinner for 2 with a nice, but well below the restaurant’s average, bottle of wine: $500 including tip. On a Tuesday night. Much better values in just about every other restaurant in the area. I’ve been to this restaurant many times, but for the first time I feel like I was ripped off. I’m afraid I won’t be back.
The food arrived in 5 mins and we finished our meal in an hour, which is incredible! Unfortunately the restaurant was slightly too loud, but I guess that should be expected for lunch in New York on the Upper East Side.
Fabulous food, service and ambience. Highly recommend!
For the price the food was mediocre. The favor of theFrench Onion soup my wife had was too strong without enough cheese. The portions in my Mezzo? plate were too small & not very good. My crabmeat salad was good. For desert my chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was excellent.
We ordered the 2 course lunch prix fixe which at $39 is a fair price. Great options and the food was delicious. The bread was fabulous but we only saw that server once. One in the party wanted sourdough bread. She eventually was served the bread but nobody informed her that the bread was coming. However it took forever to get our table cleared and nobody seemed to care if we wanted a beverage. This was lunch. The restaurant was not crowded. We should have had better service.
Great service. Delicious food. Altogether, a very pleasant evening. My best wishes to Cafe Boulud for continued success. Thanks to Open Table for enabling the Restaurant reservation.
As wonderful as always
Last time I go!!!
wonderful experience, delicious food. A bit pricey but worth it. We were the last to leave the restaurant and they were so gracious with a wonderful table. Elegant!!
Loved it! Perfect anniversary celebration. Fantastic menu w seasonal ingredients..truffle!
Attentive but low key service..perfect
Foie gras was excellent, probably best I’ve had. Steak was very good and done perfectly but nothing special; potato side was uninspired. Small point but black plating for steak detracted from presentation especially since it obscured the sauce (which was delicious).
Overall small complaints though, the food was excellent. Service and ambience were top-notch. Prices are high but not really extravagant for this type of restaurant. Portions were surprisingly substantial.
This was our second time in a month and we live in Texas. I LOVE this place. The changes in the menu are both delicious and interesting. The wines by the glass were very good (at some places they aren’t) we will be back again and again and again
The food and ambiance are superb. So was the service for the most part. But, it took a long time to get out check, because of the large brunch crowd. We finally had to ask for it. We will be happy to come back though.
Lovely high end restaurant with the feel of service and attention being paid. The room is impeccably decorated and the tables provide good sight lines for most customers. Service is top notch without being intrusive. Loved the mushroom risotto. Would definitely go again.
Cafe Boulud is my favorite! It feels like a neighborhood place but offers elegance, exquisite food, diverse cuisine, and gracious service. The four focus areas on the menu plus an expanded nightly “specials” list leaves plenty of choices, but it isn’t overwhelming. The sourcing and preparation is five star and the execution is perfect! This is a special dinner! Service is nuanced, friendly and never overbearing. Professional with warmth! And the tables are spaced for privacy yet the place has lots of energy. There is a reason it’s always crowded! They cover all the bases, from quick neighborhood bite to eat, to full blown celebration! I have never been disappointed and have always impressed others when we visit this establishment!!
Thank you for a wonderful birthday celebration! Everything was perfect!
Food is always reliably excellent. Service is impeccable, great for group, date night and family dinner, especially for family Sunday brunch.
Beautiful restaurant with delicious food and great service. We love their prix fix weekday lunch.
Excellent food and service!!
Exquisite French food. Larger portion sized. Impeccable service and food presentation is spot-on. I don’t mind paying more for a meal but for a basic cocktail very overpriced. When I was finished eating I was asked if I wanted dessert I said no thank you I’m for her reply was I’ll bring you out some fresh baked Matalines and marshmallows anyway. Really great service
Well sure was an empty restaurant not the fun lively spot from past visits
Took a friend there for a birthday lunch. The food and wine and service were all wonderful.
