We have been going to Cafe Boulud for years, whenever we are in New York. It is my favorite restaurant. The staff is warm and welcoming. The spring salad was so fresh with the most perfect vegetables and dressing. I seldom give criticism but in this case I have to report that the burrata ravioli was too salty. My husband had it as his main course and he agreed it was too salty.
It was perfect. Thanks!
Lovely in every aspect.
Had not been back in several years. Cafe Boulud is ever better.
This is by far the best restaurant one could ever wish to visit. This was our first visit for lunch, usually we do dinner, and the three course fixed price menu was exquisite. The water cress salad, the fish and desert were all wonderful. Of course the wine list is extensive and the sommelier choose a great pairing. All in all a great experience and should not be missed by anyone in NYC.
A nice place for a family or group but the food was a bit bland and nothing special. Expected more from a place with the 'name' history especially for the prices you pay.
One of my favorite restaurants in nyc...It never dissapoints!
Cafe Boulud is one of the most charming and elegant restaurants in NYC. You feel as though you dining in a Parisian restaurant. The food is fresh and expertly prepared. We both had pan-seared cod with fingerling potatoes and squash in a tomato pesto for our main course. It melted in your mouth. The dessert sorbet's (raspberry and strawberry) tasted as though the berries had just been picked from the garden. The food presentation was absolute perfection. Our coffee was served with mini- madeleine's - a great touch! The staff was courteous and attentive to every detail. Overall, a great experience. Can't wait to return. Kudo's to Chef Boulud and his staff!!
I made Sunday brunch reservations here for my best friend's birthday. The food was good. Brunch was very filling and the plates were all beautiful. The atmosphere is also very relaxing and beautiful. On the con side, the service was very slow. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our order which was at times forgotten by waiter, and the check was overcharged accidentally which would be fine except I noticed the neighbour eating next to us had an issue with her check as well. The napkins were also stained and unappealing looking.
Excellent food served by attentive, efficient, unobstrusive staff. Great Sunday brunch menu. This was our third visit to Cafe Boulud and I can attest to the consistency of the food and service quality at this establishment. The restaurant has a casual elegance and the atmosphere is congenial. The menu offerings while not inexpensive are good value for money and definitely worth repeating.
The namesake (Daniel Boulud) was dining there also 2 tables away. Felt like the service was completely focused on him and they weren’t really concerned with our table. We were disappointed, I booked this restaurant for Father’s Day and won’t be back.
Super expensive, super good
I've eaten here several times and it's always incredible, the food, wine, service and being able to have a conversation without yelling. LOVE IT!
As usual the pinnacle of dining experience!
Wonderful food and excellent service. It is convenient to walk from the MET here to have lunch. Strongly recommend it !
Not the Boulud restaurant I thought I was reserving but in the end we loved the French toast and were happy for the mistake. And could easily have been happy eating a plateful of the rosemary potato cubes that came with my eggs.
Excellent service, excellent food quality, first and second course were amazing!
I always go to Cafe Boulud when I expect absolute consistency and excellence. Expensive is less important on occasion than these qualities.
I’ve never failed to be disappointed here. Everything is impeccable. It’s one of my favorites in NYC.
Made a reservation for my boyfriend who texted me during his meal: I feel like a princess.
Fantastic. The staff is amazing and the dining room is elegant but not overdone. There is sidewalk seating on nice days. We did the two course pre fixe and the food was delicious. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in NYC and a standout on the UES.
Excellent meal, seafood was fresh and impressive. Close seating so could overhear everyone’s conversations which did not make the date very romantic. Service was impeccable.
I was so pleased with the evening. Perfect service with warmth, excellent food, beautiful space. Pricey but well worth it for a special meal.
haute cuisine and informal new york
Exceptional service, outstanding meal! Loved it!
Our meal was wonderful- the dishes were made with wonderful ingredients and done in such a way that highlighted the flavors beautifully.
Our server Mary made the meal that much better- her enthusiasm about the dishes and the wines made the evening that much more special.
We will be sure to return when we are back in NYC!
Food was very good and service was excellent.
We found the menu had limited appeal; it became noisy and it was expensive
Our servers were so nice and helpful! The food was amazing of course, but the service was really what set Cafè Boulud apart. Definitely will be back.
It is the first time at cafe Boulud that I didn’t like my meal. The fish soup was somehow not delicious and the chicken was so rich I regretted the entire meal. The Bordeaux by the glass was heavy. As said, I’ve always loved the food, so I’ll try again.
Quiet upscale ambience. Creative menu. The duck was excellent. Our server was enthusiastic and charming. Overall very nice.
Great food. Crab meat Benedict is unique and delicious. Service is very attentive. Classy deco.
Wonderful food and service - great for a special evening.
We had a wonderful table and our waitress was very attentive, food great. I wasn't aware when the chef walked around that it was Daniel Baloud. Only thing I was VERY disappointed was the selection of wines by the glass...very poor. I tried 2 different glasses of Chardonnay to taste, but neither of them were worth the price we paid. Mr. Baloud needs to get some quality known Calfornia wines on his menu
Terrific. I wanted very fine food, and got it.
This resturant is EXCEPTIONAL! The food is extraordinary matched by its stellar service. Elegant and sophisticated. A very special treat. Thank you to our wonderful server, Michael.
I do not write reviews, but this restaurant experience was so horrific, I have to let people know. It was the worst I’ve encountered in New York.
If I could give this restaurant a minus zero, I would not hesitate. I have eaten all over New York and all over the world and this place does not deserve all the hype it somehow gets.
Service was nonexistent. The staff was pretentious and certainly not worthy of a five or even a one-star rating! The sommelier was the only “highlight” of the evening. She was exceptional and surpassed her duties by even clearing away dirty dishes for us because the wait staff did not.
The extremely overpriced and over sauced food was not edible. We could not even eat the salad! The delicate over-cooked fish was covered with a thick layer of what appeared to be tomato paste mixed with olives. The side of zucchini was tasteless.
So, if you plan to visit New York for fine dining, I would instantly remove this place from your list, even if you’re staying in the hotel! “The Modern” is far superior in service, food quality, and ambiance, and you get what you pay for – an exceptional dining experience! You will not be disappointed with “The Modern.”
I have always admired Daniel Boulud and always wanted to try the legendary striped bass. It was better than I could possibly imagined. Best piece of fish I've ever had, the outside was so crunchy and the fish was juicy and tender, the baby leek melts in your mouth and the red win sauce is just magical. I also enjoyed the foie gras. The dessert we had (white forest) was a surprise, the dark chocolate complemented fresh sweet cherry very well, and together with vanilla mousse and ice cream created the refreshing sensation and is perfect after a meaty/creamy dinner. I also got cherry filled chocolates since it was my birthday. Very appreciated.
It was too hot. Meal came not as requested. Tura tartare was bland.
Always solid choice. I have never been disappointed.
