Great evening music was a little too loud , service was excellent and food was delicious
It's a wonderful restaurant, no doubt. And their homemade pasta is delicious. We felt that for a casual place the fact that they didn't allow any small changes to the meal was, maybe, a bit of pretension. That's a little harsh, but it did seem the restaurant didn't warrant it. And as nice as the waiter was, it took 15 minutes before anyone came to our table once we sat. Still liked it very much, but that's the honest review.
One of our favorite neighborhood places. Food is great and service is always delightful. If you sit in the patio it isn’t loud but in the main dining room, it can get pretty noisy with high ceilings and hard surfaces throughout the interior. But the ambiance is great for a night out!
Food was outstanding. While likely not intending to be shared plates we all shared our meal and I’m glad I was able to try several things on the menu. All were outstanding.
The food is creative and tasty. The small plates allow for having a variety of dishes, sure to please your entire table.
We really liked our first visit to Cafe Birdie. The neighborhood feels alive and we enjoyed the ambiance and food. Overall, we'll probably lighten our selections next time...we left feeling pretty stuffed. Much of what we ordered (fried chicken which was outstanding, mushrooms and peaches which were lost in sauce, pistachio pesto pasta which was perfect, and shrimp n grits) was on the heavy side. the cocktail were excellent. One weird occurance was the pot smell that kept wafting through the patio where we were seating. Kind of an appetite killer. Not sure just where it was coming from but we'll opt for indoors next time, even though it's pretty dark and certainly louder. Note that the Gold Line stop is a block a way and parking in the neighborhood isn't always easy...taking the train is a great way to come and go!
too touchy and very awkward.
We made our reservation and stipulated that we were celebrating a birthday. We arrived, service was nothing to write home about...not bad not exceptional. Servings were incredibly small (marketed as 'shareable' so we were 'encouraged' to order extra plates to 'share'). We were a party of four and ordered 7-8 dishes... (we ended up at another restaurant afterward to enjoy an adult-sized dessert). We ordered the burrata which was served with 2 slices of toast sliced in half (insufficient for a party of four). When we requested more 'bread' to finish the burrata, we were informed we would be charged (so my husband informed them he would remove the charge from the tip. We were charged $4.00 for a slice of toast. The meal could have satiated a party of 2 but was insufficient for a party of four. We left hungry. By the way, my husband's birthday was never acknowledged. On our way out, a server dropped a carafe of wine. My husband who was in a cast had to navigate around broken glass and my daughter's blouse was stained with wine. We never received an apology. We left the restaurant without a "Thanks for coming in" or "Have a nice evening." I am not sure they ever noticed we left. We did leave notes regarding our experience on the receipt. We will never go back. If you want to be honored and made to feel really special on your birthday or any special occasion, go to Malbec Pasadena on Green Street. They are grateful for their customers and make sure you know it.
We were there for dinner, which was light, but it was good. Service was outstanding. It was not crowded, but it was early. We plan to go back again. I'm not sure a 2nd time would bring up anything new, but it's worth the try. There aren't many places I care to try a 2nd time, but this is one of them. I think this place has some surprises. It also features a back patio.
Main dining room is lovely and boisterous, patio is pretty and quiet, feels like we're on vaca
A delightful dining experience, effervescent ambiance and skilled and hospitable staff.
Food was great. Everything is shareable. Very loud & dark. Couldn’t hear the ppl across the table. I felt like a grandma when I had to pull out my phone flashlight to read the menu.
All good except the drinks were a little skimpy.
Food was very good. Waiter was a little too insistent that we should eat our food family style. There’s nothing wrong with family style, but it is optional.
On a Friday night it was so loud and crowded it wasn’t enjoyable as an eating experience. There were two of us so we were put at a tiny table very close to the next tiny table.
Maybe early on a weeknight would be a better time to go.
My absolute favorite! Brunch, dinner, and happy hour are all fantastic. I go as often as I can, and bring any friends and family visiting.
The food was incredible, the service was fast & friendly, and the atmosphere was chic. Would 100% go again and again!
We had a wonderful time; our waitress , Amanda, was outstanding. Every dish was sensational. My favorite is the fried chicken and second favorite was everything else.
While the service was excellent, our dining companions super hip with hair all colors of the rainbow, Cafe Birdie was a complete dining disappointment. Tiny “shared” portions with lackluster taste. My friend and I shared two dishes. The scallop special was light and listless with little flavor, the scallops barely recognizable. The pork collar dish was grisly and tough, unsuitable to be served in a restaurant. The noise level in the cafe with the repetitious beat of techno sounds, which made me think I had tintinitus, made the experience intolerable. We left irritable and very hungry.
Cafe Birdie was disappointing.
Great place for brunch! Food was delicious and the staff was very attentive.
Excellent food and drinks. It seems the menu for both food and drinks varies depending on the site you visit. Overall, an very good restaurant with the main exception being the noise level. If you go with 2 to 4 people, communication likely works, most of the time. With more guests, you probably won't be able to hear others very well.
I have been for dinner and the food was amazing. We went for brunch and the food was just okay and pretty pricey for eggs and bacon.
We love this place. One dish was a miss but the rest was great.
Explained my shellfish allergy to the server. The first dish (amuse bouche) was delivered to me with shellfish on it.
Food is very small and expensive, we left hungry and out 165$. One of the most annoying policies they have is no substitutions, I asked for no cilantro and the waiter said that the chef makes no substitutions. There are many people that taste soap when they eat cilantro, I really wanted hamachi but couldn’t order it because of the cilantro. The waiter was of no help with suggestions. We ordered Moroccan chicken and it also had cilantro, shame I couldn’t eat it. I wouldn’t come back here again
All the dishes were great, but the small plates were standout. Two plates a person and one drink a person will run your tab up pretty high, but the quality makes it worthwhile. We'd dine here again!
The only real complaint is the noise level. Better to go during the week than on the weekend.
I have been wanting to try Cafe Birdie for a while. Every time I passed by, it looked so pretty. So when I saw that they were part of DineLA I made a reservation. The place itself is beautiful, although a bit cramped. The waiters kept on bumping us while walking. The menu seemed interesting, however it was disappointing. The items where interfering but did not pack a lot of flavor. Overall I would maybe come back for drinks at the bar (since it’s so cute) but would not come back for dinner again.
Such a beautiful relaxed but lively space. Food is always outstanding. The burratta with plums was a perfect summer dish. And the hamachi is heaven!
Great time outside on the patio. Service was top notch and the food was excellent and inventive.
Food was average in flavor/creativity. Too costly for so so quality. Liked the ambiance, back patio a plus. Probably won’t visit again.
My new favorite restaurant. Everything in the menu is extraordinary. Been there 3 times in one week!
Thank you Birdie!
Fabulous flavorful food. Fresh ingredients. Creative entrees.
The food was amazing. Service and ambiance also great. My only wish is that for the price the entrees came with some sort of side. We ordered several other things to go along with them but just felt value wise it was a little lacking. However still loved my experience here!
We came to Cafe Birdie for a Friday Night Date Night and had a wonderful time. I did have a reservation but probably didn’t need one. Everyone was friendly and everything was adorable and clean. Great local drink choices and we’re STILL talking about the food!
The tables are a little close together and we got wedged between two groups which made it a little more difficult to hear each other. The food was delicious - but the waitress didn’t really seem to be a “people person” and was a bit abrupt with us, I would like to think that at the prices they charge the wait staff would be a little nicer.
Overall, the ambiance is good. My grilled asparagus with poached egg was good but the portion was small for the price, it looked like an appetizer. Maybe it will also present better on a larger plate. The service got slower. Tea hot water was never refilled. The interior is nice.
The restaurant was bustling during our dinner but our server was very attentive. We had a bottle of orange wine, which was a new experience. And for dinner we ordered the Okinawa sweet potato, cauliflower, Caesar salad and the pesto genovese, finished with tres leches for desert. Overall I think I have better enjoyed having happy hour at the bar and eating the select HH dishes. All things were good but for the sake of value I’d probably just return for HH. For two people we probably could have had one more dish though we still left satisfied. Be sure to check out the bar in the back - Good Housekeeping - while you wait for your table.
Expensive small portions. Nice staff but menu will not be changed or requests serviced. One gluten free option.
Fabulous food, lovely service, we ate outdoors early.
Overpriced and under cooked. Friend ordered chicken that showed up dark pink although they remade it and took it off the bill.
