Such a beautiful relaxed but lively space. Food is always outstanding. The burratta with plums was a perfect summer dish. And the hamachi is heaven!
Great time outside on the patio. Service was top notch and the food was excellent and inventive.
Food was average in flavor/creativity. Too costly for so so quality. Liked the ambiance, back patio a plus. Probably won’t visit again.
My new favorite restaurant. Everything in the menu is extraordinary. Been there 3 times in one week!
Thank you Birdie!
Fabulous flavorful food. Fresh ingredients. Creative entrees.
The food was amazing. Service and ambiance also great. My only wish is that for the price the entrees came with some sort of side. We ordered several other things to go along with them but just felt value wise it was a little lacking. However still loved my experience here!
We came to Cafe Birdie for a Friday Night Date Night and had a wonderful time. I did have a reservation but probably didn’t need one. Everyone was friendly and everything was adorable and clean. Great local drink choices and we’re STILL talking about the food!
The tables are a little close together and we got wedged between two groups which made it a little more difficult to hear each other. The food was delicious - but the waitress didn’t really seem to be a “people person” and was a bit abrupt with us, I would like to think that at the prices they charge the wait staff would be a little nicer.
Overall, the ambiance is good. My grilled asparagus with poached egg was good but the portion was small for the price, it looked like an appetizer. Maybe it will also present better on a larger plate. The service got slower. Tea hot water was never refilled. The interior is nice.
The restaurant was bustling during our dinner but our server was very attentive. We had a bottle of orange wine, which was a new experience. And for dinner we ordered the Okinawa sweet potato, cauliflower, Caesar salad and the pesto genovese, finished with tres leches for desert. Overall I think I have better enjoyed having happy hour at the bar and eating the select HH dishes. All things were good but for the sake of value I’d probably just return for HH. For two people we probably could have had one more dish though we still left satisfied. Be sure to check out the bar in the back - Good Housekeeping - while you wait for your table.
Expensive small portions. Nice staff but menu will not be changed or requests serviced. One gluten free option.
Fabulous food, lovely service, we ate outdoors early.
Overpriced and under cooked. Friend ordered chicken that showed up dark pink although they remade it and took it off the bill.
The food was excellent. Paul was our server abscess great. He was funny, made us feel welcome and kept tabs on our table.
The service is always consistent. You are always able to be seated and the waitstaff is accommodating and knowledgeable about the wines.
Although the food was very good, I did not know the portions were going to be so small- This is more like tapas style , rather than full entre dinner style eating.
Also, I was quite disappointed with the table I requested: I specifically asked for a nicer table for a birthday dinner. I was given a table with one seat facing a brick wall- alcove. Also, some dishes took quite a while and we we were hungry; I asked for bread. I was charged 4.00 for two pieces of burnt sourdough. Overall the food was good, but I do not think it was good value.
Very innovative food in a charming setting. Love the overall vibe of this restaurant. Staff is very well versed in the menu.
Love this restaurant! The food is amazing, the service impeccable and the wine list is awesome. Come here often and it’s always great!!
Cafe Birdie was a pioneer in the now trendy restaurant scene in Highland Park and it continues to put out solid food at a fair price. All of the dishes are meant to be shared, and a table of two can be nicely satisfied with four dishes. We enjoyed the burrata and cauliflower followed by the meatballs and the torn pasta with pesto sauce. Each dish was delicious with some unanticipated complexity. The wait staff is warm and the service is brisk (a bit too efficient — moving tables seems to be a priority although with one hour metered street parking, it is impossible to linger). My only complaint is that they seated the perimeter of the restaurant first. We were seated adjacent to a very loud table on one side which made conversation a bit of a challenge. There were plenty of available tables in the center of the room that were unoccupied until shortly before we left. It would have been nice to have not been sandwiched in when there was available open seating.
Great vibe excellent food and bar in back is fun
The food was great! We ordered some pasta and meatballs and a couple cocktails. Everything was delicious!
Best fried chicken i ever had. I never seem to have a bad meal here. Great service too
A welcoming and delicious spot for dinner with imaginative approaches to vegetables that were sublime.
the food is always great and a really cool restaurant
Second time here. Both times hostesses were amazing. Friendly, kind, affable. Server first time was friendly, second time was...not someone who I believe is "naturally" suited to the service industry. Cold and off putting...kinda like the food. Both times I have come here, the food has come out insultingly quick and been cold. I dealt with it the first time and sent food back the second time...but the second round was also cold. Overall, this place has a lot to work on. The bones are healthy and strong, but the overlaying muscle and skin here are weak.
The only reason not to recommend Cafe Birdie is tha fact that it will become too popular and I will not be able to get a seat. Stange but delishous group of food - have the Caesar its the best.
The food was solid and the service was great. Great neighborhood restaurant.
Shared 4 dishes, the beet burrata salad and the pea & snap pea appetizers were amazing. The Scallops were slightly undercooked and the harissa fried chicken were nice but the veggie dishes were our favs. Cocktails were great. Lovely room, noisy but not so much that dinner conversation was uncomfortable. Friendly staff.
First timers. Everything was great. From host greeting to exit. Favorite item was the mushroom toast. And who doesnt like an Aperol Spritz? 😁 We will return!
The fried chicken and cacio e Pepe is a must!
the food the service the room.
everything was lovely. thank you!
The portions were tiny and overpriced. I paid $14 dollars for 3 pieces of regular sized shrimp and a cup of cauliflower grits. My friends who ordered the Birdie breakfast were served about a half cup of potatoes that were cut into ity bity pieces. It was a little embarrassing to treat friends to a brunch that I expected way better food quality. I don’t mind the price, but it was way overpriced for what we got.
I hate to write a bad review of this place as I've only heard amazing things about it, but it didn't live up to the hype for us. We ordered 3 items to share (prawns, mushrooms and chopped salad) and at the end of the meal we both agreed that it was all very bland and the flavors it did have seemed off. I'm hoping we ordered the 3 worst things on the menu and that everything else is great. I would go back if someone else wanted to, but not as my first choice.
Chef Russell Victorioso's menu is one of the most comforting and familiar, yet full of play and charm! The Italian and Mediterranean inspired dishes are immediately satisfying, and the south east Asian touches on select dishes add an element of excitement and vibrancy. The setting is cozy and urban, with service that is friendly and thoughtful.
Great atmosphere in trendy Highland Park. The bloody Mary’s had No vodka and I would say the food was marginal! It was for a Birthday celebration and it was not noted by the staff!! Not overly impressed!
Place was packed! Very lively and fun- great music: good hip hop . Really nice staff and our waitress knew her wines! Food gets better every time I go! Lots of vegetarian choices. I could go every day of the week and not get sick of it.
Great food atmosphere and service. Only wish they'd play the background music way lower, so I could have a conversation.
We usually love Cafe Birdie. This was not a good experience, however. The concept is to order small plates and to have them come out one or two at a time. Our small plates pretty much came out in two large groups. The experience was very rushed, and the food got cold. We were a party of five. The restaurant wasn't crowded, so there was no excuse for the rushed food. Also, it was pretty chilly in there because the back door remained open for ease of delivery of food to the patio patrons. The interior lighting could have been better also. :(
Excellent all-around, and Judith, the manager, is wonderful.
Delicious, terrific and inventive food. Great Atmosphere and not too noisy. Our server was wonderful! I had to take 2 stars off for the overly strict no substitution policy. They wouldn't even not sprinkle nuts on top of something because of a nut allergy in our party, they made us order something else. I get not wanting to open up Pandora's box of customers getting all creative with your menu, but this seemed unreasonably harsh. Really did love the restaurant though, I hope they can change that policy.
