This is a convenient place to grab a bite before the ballet, particularly if you don’t have time to eat in the neighborhood.

Buffet is beautiful, but expensive. Would recommend management offer half-buffet selection - namely salad bar only for reduced price. May be a little difficult for management to monitor, but worth it for patrons. Also would appreciate a few soups on the menu.
Very convenient for pre theater meal.

Especially for people who’ll be attending the opera or ballet, this is a reasonable and convenient option in the Hayes Valley. What made my brunch particularly enjoyable was conversation struck up with the couple at the adjacent table. We learned that we had things in common and were able to share useful info. If you’re really looking for a fine dining experience, then consider elsewhere, but the cafe is OK and can be downright nice!

We attended the ballet and decided to try the onsite restaurant, which was not your average buffet. The salads were the highlight for me, all were fresh and healthy. My husband loved the prime rib and creamy polenta. He also really liked the mixed drink options. Our wait person was great too, Cheng I believe his name is. He was attentive, giving us just the right amount of attention. Best kept secret, plan for dessert at intermission, so romantic and private as most do not do this! You arrive after the first performance and your table is set with what you ordered, such a splurge but so worth it. We will be back again.

Our waiter was wonderful, so helpful and welcoming. The table was a problem as we had hoped for a private conversation which we have often had at the Opera House at Cafe de l'Opera. this time we two were seated next to a very nice gentleman who was seated alone and who engaged us in very nice conversation for the entire meal. He was very nice . However, this made it impossible to have the conversation together between the two of us. The salad with salmon was delicious. We liked being able to order dessert for intermission an come back to our table for desert. thank you

We ordered from the menu which was, for us, a better value than the buffet. Service and food were both excellent.

Patina Group Restaurant, Cafe at the Opera, is wonderful prior to ballet or opera. The buffet
is very good. Only criticism is that they need to vary the menu. Had the same food in
January, a Friday night, when at the Sleeping Beauty Ballet. Asked the chef about serving carved to your order salmon again. He said they vary between the roast beef and salmon every other night so that people who come to the ballet don't get the same entree?? Well, my tickets are for Friday nights and they obviously are not varying the menu. Base on that principal, Thursday and Saturday nights should be rotated so they have Beef in January on those days and in Feb. Salmon. Instead they have served Salmon on two Fridays????

Anytime we go to the ballet or opera we eat here. There are other great restaurants in the area that we go to when attend the Symphony, however the convenience, the tasty buffet, and the excellent staff here can't be beat when we go to the Opera House!

Food very good in general for the buffet. Plenty of salads and choices of protein and pastas. But none of the hot dishes were even slightly warm and it was disappointing to not offer any sweet for dessert. Even a simple cookie or small chocolate would be nice. Especially since it was Valentines Day. But really, a little dessert would have made it that much better.

Very good time Wednesday... a la carte salad arrived timely, so I could enjoy meal at same time as buffet-diner companion. Thanks for mint tea! Waiting staff super.

Menu desperate need of upping - salads same, old, skimpy, dull, waaaaaay over priced. Taking advantage of pre-performance quick meal to make performance on time.

I dined at the Opera House before seeing the ballet. It is downstairs and o.k. looking. The food was pretty good. The salmon, beet salad and spinach salad was good. It was convenient to eat there before the ballet since it is in the same building. Our waiter disappeared often and we had to wait to get more water, the desert menu and the check at the end when we wanted to get going to the gift shop before the ballet. Overall, the place and food was good but the service wasn't great.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the service. The convenience of arriving early to the Opera House for a pre-ballet meal plus having your intermission cocktail/coffee/dessert waiting for you even a bigger plus.
