We celebrated our 25th anniversary there since it's our favorite restaurant. When the waiter learned that we'd been coming there for special occasions since we were dating, he kindly asked Robert del Grande to come say hello at our table. We had a nice conversation with this terrific chef!
This was our first visit to Cafe Annie in decades! We now have a condo in Houston--along with our "professor's" home in Bryan-CS. So we are "touring" the wonderful restaurant scene. Our condo is in the Tanglewood area--so we are within 10 minutes of multiple great restaurants.
Cafe Annie has an established reputation, and we enjoyed our visit last week. Compared to some of the other spots we have been to--it is on the expensive side--in terms of fewer wines in the $50 and under range. We often share dishes as we don't eat a lot at one time.
I chose the Maki Roll--and it was delicious. I love Ahi Tuna and find myself ordering it regularly wherever I go! My husband had the Tortilla soup and liked it--although I have to say it was no better-or maybe not quite as interesting as the Tortilla soup at Cafe Eccell in College Station.
We had a Bordeuaux Superior for around $45. the first one we ordered that was $49 was out of stock. The Pecan pie sounded heavenly--but we passed--watching our waist. If you had Gelato I could not have resisted. I compare Gelatos around the country!! Best Gelato so far for me is Napa Flats in College Station.Trust me-it is good!!

Trying to be creative with their cuisine but don't make it. Ordered three appetizers so I could sample their dishes and disliked each one. The worst was the octopus salad and the beef carpaccio. Stick to the basics if you go...order a steak, chops...don't order anything that looks interesting. Maybe it has seen it's time come and go.
We absolutely loved the evening and will consider it as one of our favorites in Houston. The renovation has updated the feel and space between tables is very desirable. We loved the food options. My husband had a delicious burger while I had the surf and turf, which was the best ever short ribs with scallops - divine!
I hadn't been back to Cafe Annie in several years and was disappointed with the items I ordered. The seafood gumbo was soupy, rather than made with a dark roux, and contained a modest amount of seafood. Rather than lump crabmeat, it contained shreds of blue crabmeat. The Cobb salad was good but included a lot of cucumber slices, an unwelcome addition. I'll return to the restaurant but will try other dishes.
My wife and I were celebrating our 59th wedding anniversary and wanted to have a quiet and romantic evening at Cafe Annie.
The food and wine was good but the room was anything but quiet.
The people (eight) across the room were so loud and probably drunk we could not enjoy ourselves. We have never been subjected to that extremely loud almost screaming; even at a bar.
We complained the the waiter but he was no help.
As we were leaving, a couple ahead of us complained to the hostess an left.
We are disappointed that the management would allow such a distraction and we may not return to Cafe Annie.
Café Annie and RDG has long been one of my favorites. they are clearly having issues. The food was mediocre at best. the décor was terrible as they are remodeling the back room and nothing matched. Waiters are very good but clearly something is way off. Not very crowded for a Saturday night and the meal and wine were certainly not worth the price
Unfortunately after many years I will not return. We felt similarly after the previous visit Pre Harvey we but chalked it up to an off night. Menu has not changed in 6 months that I can tell
Too many other good options in Houston
I was very disappointed. I have always thought of Cafe Annie as a very special restaurant with great service and we got none of that. First, the wine list is very unremarkable, especially in the wine by the glad.
Second, I was served the wrong appetizer and when I rejected it, the wait was way too long to replace it with what I order. My husband sat with his appetizer for a least 15 minutes before mine appeared.
Then the food was not good. It was overdressed in heavy sauces. My fish had such and heavy cream and so much of it that it was literally swimming in it. No light, brilliant touches here!
Lastly the service was terrible. We waited between appetizers and the main course for at least 20 minutes. I won't go back any time soon.
Although everyone was very friendly, that did not translate into even decent service. Food was ok but not top of the line even though the menu is very expensive. Too many other better alternatives in HOUSTON at this price level -- and less likely to disappoint.
We were visiting Houston on business and found the restaurant on our hotel's web site. We also were there during Houston Restaurant Week. We decided to try the "suggested" chef meal and were glad we did. By the way our waiter Joey was professional and provided us with great attention to detail and hospitality. Give it a try.....
