Service was great. Only food recommendation would be the bread. Everything else was delicious.
Ever have a dinner where you say "That is delicious!" and then slow down to savor every bite. That's Cafe Amici.
The waiter seemed as if he were on drugs. We put our order in for appetizers and said we needed a few minutes with the menu. He returned and we placed our order for entrees. Some time goes by and next thing we know our entrees arrived and we were never served our appetizers. His reply was “I thought you didn’t want them?” Umm, we did, that being the reason we ordered them. Each time he came back to the table he was even sweatier and grinding his jaws harder than the last time. He couldn’t stand still in one spot, and was swaying back and forth. The time before we ate there our service was great and so was the food. This last time was extremely disappointing.
Delightful server, Maria, who made our dining experience wonderful. Our meal was fabulous. I had veal amici and my wife had sausage and peppers . We would highly recommend this restaurant !!!!
Pasta us definitely the eay to go here. It is excellent. My husband had it with the Bolognese sauce which had so many layers of flavors and richness that I would consider it to be one of the best we ever had. I had osso buco with pasta. The veal was good but the flavor it and sauce it came with didn't come upto the level if the Bolognese sauce. I would definitely go back. I even told a local about it and she is going to try the restaurant soon.
The food was excellent. Try the Chardonnay from the owner’s hometown. Delicious it was nice to find something gluten free on the menu - gnocchi! Definitely will be back.
I am truly never disappointed with all my visits to Cafe Amici. It’s a small family owned Italian restaurant located in downtown Sarasota. The food is so delicious and very authentic. My personal favorite would certainly be the Ossobuco. It is their veal shank served with pasta and it is so delicious!! Friendly service, welcoming atmosphere, and just hands down great, mouthwatering food. Cafe Amici is my favorite Italian place in town.
Very good food and very reasonably priced in a great downtown location.
Always reliable and consistent.
A busy evening in Sarasota, and the restaurant was quite full. Maria greeted us warmly and seated the two of us at a small table mid-stream. The bread and olive oil were very good. The sliced tomatoes in my salad were on the verge of mealy, and there were 5-6 thin slices; the homemade mozzarella did not have the usual smooth texture I am used to. My husband's vegetable sou was delicious but the vegetable pieces were rather large. Our two pasta dishes were excellent, especially the wide pasta with bolognese sauce. We did not have dessert.
A delightful surprise in Sarasota. We were in town for the ballet and had only time for an early dinner.. The restaurant was close to our hotel and the Opera House and the ratings on Open Table were promising so we booked a 5:00 pm table. Wonderful meal, great service from Maria, and we will be back. This place and the food reminded us of wonderful meals in Italy last fall.
I had a very good Friend visiting from out of town and I knew if we dined at café amici , that Massimo and his incredible staff would make it a spectacular dinner. It was fantastic as always. Thank you again
Cafe Amici offers a consistently good experience if you are looking for classic Italian dining in downtown Sarasota. Service was professional and well paced. Generous salads, a pasta choice, and the nightly special featuring giant prawns were all excellent. A good choice for dinner before the theater or opera.
Service was very bad. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Took about 15 minutes for server to greet us. She returned with description of specials and took our drink order. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. It took almost 30 minutes to receive the appetizer. We had been sitting at our table over one hour before the meal arrived. Our server never checked back. Someone else delivered the meal so we never saw the server until we stood up and waved the host to get our check. This was about a half hour after we finished our meal with table not bussed. The server gave us the check saying inside was “crazy with separate checks” - no apology. Gave her my credit card and waited another 10 minutes for her to return. While the food was well prepared and tasty I would not return as the service was slow and everyone was very disorganized. We felt as if we had been forgotten sitting outside.
Cafe Amichi continues to be a favorite for dinner out. The wait staff and hosts are always friendly and professional. Food, especially fish dishes, are always delicious.
Wonderful Sunday dinner at Cafe Amici, had a special mozzarella that was to die for. The specials all sounded delicious so I chose they’re veal chop, medium rare as was suggested, it was the best veal chop I’ve ever had in my life. The wine selection was amazing, had two glasses of the Amararone . Service was on point by Maria and Andre ,Thank you both for a wonderful experience. Well done!!
We have eaten at Cafe Amici many times and always enjoyed it, but our last meal there was so bad it will probably be our last for awhile. Our waiter made no suggestions for food or wine even though we asked. Our waiter never brought bread for the table and never asked if we wanted another glass of wine. My husband always loves the Osso Bucco but was served this time was terrible. It did not even look like the same dish. It was served over a large bowl of thick noodles with 2 thin slices of meat. There was no sauce and my husband said it was terrible. He left most of it. I ordered veal piccata and gluten free pasta with lemon and olive oil. I always love the veal. Usually the chef prepares it without breading so I can enjoy it. This time, we were told that all the piccata was prepared ahead of time so they could not do it. I ordered the veal shank which was just greasy. The gluten free pasta had changed from quinoa pasta to some tasteless stuff that was probably rice noodles. It had tons of olive oil but no lemon and no taste. It was so greasy I couldn't eat it. The waiter - who never came back to check on our meals- said after dinner, "Oh, didn't you like it?" I wanted my usual dish of olives to enjoy before dinner. Now we were told they came in prepackaged and marinated so I couldn't have them. The place- which is usually full on a Saturday night, was nearly empty. Very strange, since so much was happening downtown that night. I wanted tea after dinner but was told they really don't sell it anymore. I was brought a big tea box with only a couple bags of tea. It looked so unappealing, I passed. My husband was not offered dessert. With 1 glass of wine, 1 appetizer and no dessert or coffee, our bill was over $120. Really, it was not worth it. So sad; too bad. This was always one of our standby favorites. Not anymore-
Excellent food and service by Maria. The OSSO BUCCO was excellent along with the meatball appetizer. The Pappardelle Bolognese was also excellent.
Great evening! Phenomenal meal and atmosphere. One the owners, brothers, checked in a couple of times to ensure everything was to our liking .... which it was and more!
I love Cafe Amici more every time I come here. The food is wonderful and so is the staff.
Great Italian food, service, ambiance !!
AlwAys consistently good and hearty dishes.
Our waiter, Jason, was a sheer pleasure. Hope the next time we dine there he will be waiting on our table. Of course, the food at Cafe Amici, was amazing!
Salad choices were unexciting. I had shrimp and crab with linguini. Sauce was poor and there was no crab at all in the sauce. We will not return
Excellent as always!
Café Amici is a very well managed, locally owned restaurant. The food is very good and the involvement of the family guarantee's attention to detail. Good wine list, although a bit expensive on corkage.
The food was good, not excellent! The bread was okay, the dipping sauce was fab! Our server was high on coke or something, but attentive! It was very, very loud so not a good place for a romantic dinner date or any dinner date. Go with a group!
I came here for a girls' night out. We had a party of 10 and sat in the back room at a large table. It was quiet and cozy, perfect for our occasion. Our server took our drink and appetizer orders and forgot 2x to put in a drink order for 2 of the diners. We had to ask several times for water fill ups, after being there about 2 hours we only got 1 glass of water and was never asked if we wanted another alcoholic drink. Most of us would have ordered another wine or martini, but we were never asked and we never got a change to order anything else. Our server then interrupted our private conversation to give her 2 cents and it was borderline inappropriate and politically incorrect. We notified the manager of the poor service and received free champagne. One of the glasses had lipstick on it. We were done after that.
The good news is that the food was very good, and has always been good. However the service was poor. We will not be back.
Maitre’D was charming and extremely attentive however waiter was rushed and cranky.
The Osso Bucco was quite delicious and huge,
But the Branzino was a sad dish.
Great food, great wine, great service
Cafe Amici is one of our favorite go-to Italian restaurants. The food and wine are reliably good; the service is excellent and the ambience is warm and friendly.
Delicious and wonderful service
Attended Cafe amici’s before the Sarasota Opera. Marie, our server was a delight!
Veal Piccata, one of my favorites was prepared wonderfully.
Great evening meal! Good food attentive and unitrusive service. Appropriate wine selection. We’ll be back! Desert was super !
The food selection was delicious and the wines were delightful!
Very authentic and delicious. The service was wonderful and the meal felt like we were in Italy. Felt family run and was a delight.
Awesome meal.. great service. Comprehensive and a good value wine list. Staff were spot on.. we will definitely go back soon!
Above average Italian restaurant, family owned with some wines from the village of the owners. Nice enough, quick service. Seems like it has a roster of regulars.
Service was awful
Waiter did not care.
Food was salty.
When spoke to waiter + Owner.
They did not care or answer any questions.
Final straw was ordered dessert waiter came back to table 20 minutes later and said they were working on it
Would not recommend this Restaurant
Even with reservations made us wait 25 minutes
Experience fabulous....first date night!
Went for our wedding anniversary. Service was great. I don’t, however, like when nothing is written down. My entire arrived completely wrong. Given the time it took, I didn’t say anything. It was delicious, but it was not what I wanted. Still happy to have gone there.
