Food is authentic Italian with fresh pasta. Veal Scallopini was awesome and the mussels appertiser was the best ever. Food was so good we ate there 3 straight nites. Service was great by Maria but way too many tables to take care of thus not enough help in general. Easy to overlook when your meals were outstanding.
Great food great experience!
The food was wonderful. Can’t wait to go back!
Average food and service but noisy
The service is always very good and the food is authentic italian comfort food.
Entree’s were poor quality. The short ribs were extremely fatty. Service was rushed and hospitality was phony.
Excellent as always!
100% Authentic Italian food, fantastic place !!!
Overall good, but some caveats: who I believe was the owner a little bit “un-welcoming” when arriving not recognizing my reservation!!! Hat to show him it at my phone, he said “well, you just made it” so had to show him the confirmation email from Open table received a couple of hours back!! Then we were ok! Second, wanted to order the Spaghetti Neri with baby octopus, and they came and said we don’t have any more the squid ink, so cannot give it to you! Offered spaghetti with baby octopus, which was ok, but just not what they offer in the menu, basically the pata, with the octopus with some sort of tomatoes sauce. Our server a nice lady, a little bit in a rush mode all the time, so my kids order was brought wrong, they had to take it back to bring the right food. However, overall ok, the pasta nicely cooked al-dente and a good selection of wines. It is a nice place in downtown Sarasota Main Street where plenty of nice restaurants can be found,
We absolutely loved this restaurant. We were only in Sarasota for four nights and ate here twice for dinner. The owners were extremely friendly and the food was outstanding.
Absolutely loved it!! Would definitely come back.
Outstanding appetizer...baked prosuitto and mozzarella.
Food was pretty sub par. Waitstaff was very friendly and was best part of meal. Overall, would not recommend.
Very authentic little Italian place like you would find in NYC. Maria is fantastic as a server and will be back very soon.
Incredible meal. Will absolutely go back upon return to Sarasota.
Excellent meal once again
Visited before the Sarasota Opera.
Great attentive service from the time we walked in the door! Recommend!
Excellent food. Service staff great. Enjoyable experience
We were looking for an authentic Italian dining experience downtown Sarasota and found Amici mediocre at best for the food.
The staff (family) was very friendly though.
Always a good meal at good price with friendly and attentive staff
We went to Cafe Amici for pre theater dinner. We found the portions to be small, and the quality of the food lacking. The salmon with artichokes and capers was quite bland. There were two slivers of artichoke, and small chunks of salmon. Not what I anticipated at all.
My husband had the pasta Bolognese. The sauce was watery and flavorless.
Both the club soda, and coke were “flat”.
We had an issue we tried to address with the manager. He was unsmiling, unfriendly, and rude. The waiter on the other hand seemed embarrassed and was very nice.
Because of its proximity to the Opera and theater, we were hoping to enjoy our meal and return frequently. Unfortunately that will not be the case, and I would not recommend this restaurant when there are so many other fine restaurants on the block.
The service and food preparation was outstanding. Nice wine list.
This is our FAVORITE places to eat down town...great Italian food! the linguine and clams are the best...Maria our waitress always gives great service...we come here almost once a week...love it!
We did not think the food was good. I had chicken Milanese. It was nothing more than fried chicken with arugula and Parmesan cheese. It was very dry. The cost was $19.00 and if you want spaghetti it another $5.00. No salad. My husbands veal was better but with so many nice Italian restaurants to chose from I wouldn’t go back.
I have been coming here for years. It keeps getting better. Friendly service! Authentic Italian food! Good selection of Italian wine. Ask for a table with Maria.
A great place for a good meal before the opera or theater. Not too rich, not too spicy, just well seasoned, well cooked Italian food. I wish this were my neighborhood trattoria.
greeted and seated immediately. my appetizer of mozzarella and greens consisted of irregular sliced cheese and hard tomatoes. My entree was eggplant parm and was a pile of mush. Not edible. They did NOT want to hear it was not good. My husband was okay with pasta. Had to ask for check then had to chase down person, who had it in her pocket , in order to leave. No would not be back
Excellent food and reasonably priced. Friendly, if sometimes casual, staff.
Great meal after a last minute reservation change. I was going to change up my pasta which would have been an upcharge and the waiter actually talked me out of it and was right. A lot of respect for that!
Outstanding prepared entree'
Excellent Italian FOOD. Grilled squid yummy and the Amarone delicious.
Restaurant had no record of our reservation, but managed to accommodate us. Waitress was efficient, but rather brash.
Excellent food. Busy so service was a little slow. I would recommend this restaurant . It is in a great location in North downtown Sarasota.
Worst service, food was ok. Not going back.
Food was outstanding and service excellent.
Have not been for at least 2 years, not sure why we hadn't been back... I was glad to go back and really wanted to like this place. Great location, the website makes it look wonderful, the host was excellent, service quite good... But, while not a bad meal, a couple of folks at our table liked their entree good enough. Still we all agreed the Calamari was very chewy and the Bolognese while tasty was really more of a red meat sauce. I guess overall it was just okay.
Amazing authentic Italian cuisine...never disappoints.
The branzino was excellent, cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the green salad was ridiculously overpriced, $8 for a few pieces of lettuce and half a tomato. Cafe Amici needs to lower the price or beef up the salad.
Great food and atmosphere.
We have lived in Sarasota for 15 years and have always wanted to dine at Cafe Amici. Finally we did. Lovely restaurant, not pretentious, excellent food and quality service. I wee bit pricey... but this is Sarasota. I would -- and plan too-- go again.
