Cafe Amici Ratings and Reviews
We went to Cafe Amici for my birthday and before a show. The food was very good, but the server upsold us on the grilled octopus appetizer saying we needed 2 for the table of 4 when 1 would have been fine. Also, she said the appetizers were in the $13 range, but when our bill came the octopus was $18 a plate. Additionally, the initial bill was wrong and it took forever to get it straightened out which made us rush to get to the show.
Later, we noticed that they had charged our credit card twice. Once for the wrong amount and once for the correct amount. This took several days to get corrected.
Lastly, it would have been nice to be offered something for my birthday and for our inconvenience.
We are new to Sarasota and wanted to take our visiting friends from Naples to a good Italian restaurant. Food was actually very good but our server, Aaron, rushed us to the point that it made the experience very unacceptable. He kept saying he had other tables to check on and that he’d be back. Seriously, is it my concern about his “other tables?” We felt like all he wanted to do is turn the table instead of us having a good dining experience. So many restaurants in Sarasota that it will probably be a while before we come back.
Once seated, had to flag down a server to get water after a long wait. Service was slow, they were one server down. Oh well. Food was well prepared but bland. Sub par from previous visits. Server forgot parts of our order, but was responsive when reminded. Final checks - 2 couples, 2 checks - were a jumble.
Let me start by saying Amici was one of our favorite restaurants. We had dinner reservations for 2 at 8:00 on Christmas Eve. We arrived about 10 minutes early and checked in with the hostess. She suggested we take a seat at the bar since our table wasn’t available yet. We were enjoying a glass of wine when my husband checked the time an saw it was almost 8:30. He checked with the hostess and she apologized for overlooking our reservation. We were seated within a few minutes in their side room with a few large parties. After about 15 minutes of being ignored we decided to leave. Needless to say we will never go back as all we received was oh I’m sorry and not a word from the manager/ owner.
Cafe Amici has long been a favorite for authentic Italian cooking and professional service. Unfortunately, our Christmas Eve meal did not live up to past experiences. While we enjoyed the Feast of Seven Fishes, service was not up to par. As the room filled, the wait staff became clearly overwhelmed, leaving us with unfilled requests. At the end of the meal, it took several attempts to correct our bill. While we will most likely return, we would not recommend this restaurant for a high volume, busy evening.
Great find for an evening of wonderful Italian food, great service , vast wine list, authentic Italian food prepared from fresh ingredients , well worth the moderate price and the food is as good as any we have had anywhere, service as attentive and wonderful but not rushed and very accommodating to requests, we were treated to a wonderful dining experience to make it the best meal of our trip, we will return again, it is a do not miss meal.
Cafe Amici is a terrific value for lunch. My guests had the luncheon omelet while I had the basaltic salmon over salad, which all was excellent. Service was uneven but overall ok. Ambiance/room was quite at lunch which was perfect for biz conversation.
We had an overall good dining experience.
We had The Veal Amici, which was tasty and well presented.
By contrary, the service was rushed and unfriendly.
We asked for a bottle of wine, and the way this was handled disregarded entirely the wine serving rules. The bottle was quickly uncorked, and the wine was brusquely poured in the glass, without having the opportunity to taste it first.
We asked for something, and about 20 minutes later our request was still not fulfilled.
When we reminded the waiter regarding our request, we were told (in un unfriendly way), that we need to be more patient, because there were more customers to be attended.
Special Note: It has to be mentioned that the waiter assistant (young girl) who was serving water, was utterly pleasent, considerate and well mannered.
We had a party of 16 and the service was spot on. Nothing was a problem or an issue. We even had one with a gluten allergy in which they were able to work with. Lobster ravioli was delicious. Veal dishes were very good as well. Pasta was homemade. Would recommend for romantic dates to large groups. They can accommodate all sized groups. The bar was only six seats so not a large bar scene
This is the absolute best Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. You could taste the freshness in the food, the service was fabulous, and the wine selection was to die for. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants true, authentic, Italian food.
Food was average for Italian restaurant. Waiter did not mention the dinner summer special. We had to ask for it.
Interestingly the owner/manager never came by to say hello or ask if we enjoyed our meal. I find that very unusual for an Italian restaurant.
