Have eaten here many times and it’s always good. A little expensive compared to other, similar restaurants but wouldn’t hesitate to go back.
Why I have never eaten here before is my misfortune! Absolutely wonderful experience. The food, the staff, the setting and especially the dessert was an awesome experience. Definitely putting this restaurant on my list to take friends and family.
We made reservations on Open Table for a Friday night. The first part of the meal was wonderful. Then everything went wrong. We did a pasta course and then did a chop for an entree. The chop we ordered rare, 30 minutes after our pasta course, with no communication from anyone, we were served a medium well chop. When we said something about it, we were told by the waitress, she would tell her manager. He came over, said nothing and walked away when we said we would not wait another 30 minutes and would eat the overdone chop. He then threw a desert and shot of lemoncello at us. Still saying nothing. We never got an apology. Then when we went to pay and use a Groupon, were told that since we made the reservation with Open Table (their website booking engine), we could not use the Groupon. To top everything off, after we left, I got an email that they cancelled my Open Table reservation. Dishonest to Open Table...flat out lying to Open Table. They treated us as 2nd class citizens, we were not a regular and therefore not important to them. I guess we will never become regulars! Check out their reviews on Yelp...you will see we were not the 1st have this happen...it is a pattern. Warning you could be next!
The dinner was awesome. My husband had the octopus appetizer and the veal chop. He said it was the best he ever had!
Preparation, execution and presentation nailed it, 5 star restaurant with an amazing host and chef!!
Great Italian food !!!
Good food with great service. A little loud at times but all in all a very good experience.
Friendly helpful staff with excellent specials choices.
Our favorite restaurant in Sarasota! Upscale delicious food in a cozy warm family feel ambience. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Great visit to Cafe Amici. Maria is an outstanding server-professional and in tune to her customers. Special that evening was very nice-a red sauce with fish. We enjoyed all our choices
Mixed results after a fantastic first time experience....my salmon was tremendous as it was last time, BUT my date's 'sepcial' spicy seafood fra diablo was not spicy and the clams were sandy, pretty gross.
Our server was great, saving me mucho money because when I asked for Jose Cuervo silver tequila which she said they had, came back to forewarn me it was 1942...how about simply putting the list of liquors you have on a menu, rather than make guests ask and possibly be misled?
So, in a nut shell, salmon a go to dish, others I can't vouche for. A special should be truly special.
Great restaurant, good food, amazing wine list.
Salads were served in time. Dinner about an hour later. Veal did could not be eaten. Heavy in cream. Told waitress Taste was horrible
She did not seem to care Eggplant was just ok
Pasta with marinara sauce was ok
When we were leaving I asked if she told the chef
She said yes. Three times. No one came to the table
No adjustment on bill. She said she could not do anything
I called when I got home. No answer. Left message
With all the great Resturant’s here never would I go back. Waiting to hear from manager
Rollatini, usually my favorite—in fact, the reason I go to this restaurant—was not quite the same as usual. Very good, but not the stuff of cravings that draw me back when I’m in town. Waiter was superb, knowledgeable, welcoming and warm. Wine by the glass was excellent.
Love Amici -- excellent authentic Italian cuisine in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
This is our favorite go to place. The food is always prepared perfectly, service is friendly and top notch. The wine list includes many older wines, hard to find in many restaurants. Ask Massino what he has that is not on the wine list and you will be offered some unique and interesting wines. We love it here.
Always a treat at Cafe Amici. Best of the best in Sarasota.
Cafe Amici was absolutely outstanding! I was relieved they had a full bar which many authentic Italian places think is unimportant. Our waitress Maria was a dream, knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient.
The bread and olive oil to start was fantastic, the salad fresh, and our entrees were melt in your mouth. I had the salmon which was off the charts with capers and the freshest cherry tomatoes. My date had veal and finished every bite!
Not only will I be back, but since I work retail downtown and am often asked where folks should go to eat, Cafe Amici is going to be my number one suggestion!
Food was tasty and prepared well. The service was excellent.
We hadn't been to Cafe Amici in several years, and now I'm kicking myself! We had a delicious dinner and watched the Kentucky Derby before heading to a performance at the nearby opera house. Pasta was cooked al dente. My Eggplant Parmesan was very well done - not too much breading, delicious marinara and just the right amount cheese. Hubby loved his Pasta Bolognese. Waiter was experienced, smooth as silk, a pleasure to be served so nicely. Cappucino was full-flavored. We will return.
Maximo gave us the VIP treatment, food excellent!
We have dined regularly at Cafe Amici since 2012, and it continues to impress with each recurring visit. When we arrived last Wednesday evening, the red carpet had been laid at the entrance to the restaurant. Obviously, this wasn't meant for us; rather, it was placed there in honor of the owner's birthday! (Massimo Nigri). Massimo shared the evening with family and friends and even offered us a complimentary glass of champagne. Grazie, Massimo!
Dinner was as delicious as ever. Indulge yourselves with the succulent veal osso buco and treat yourselves to a first class dining experience. We return now to New York for the spring/summer months, but anxiously await our return to Sarasota in October, when we can again enjoy the delicious Pugliese cuisine at Sarasota's wonderful neighborhood gem, Cafe Amici!
We three all enjoyed our dinner. The staff was friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. I had the duck comfit which was excellent.
Always excellent prep for traditional and unique Italian tastes.
Always a good experience, our favorite place in downtown!!
Cafe Amici is my new favorite restaurant in the Siesta Key/Sarasota area. We are visitors from the Mid-West and come down here almost every year. We had just an outstanding experience. Everything was top notch! We started out with the Antipasta Rustico and it was unbelievable! The selection of meats and cheeses was tasty and plentiful. It’s a must try! It’s enough for up to four people to sample. From there, it only got better! The fresh bread and pastas are fantastic! I really can’t say enough good things. It’s definitely a neighborhood gem! It’s a smaller establishment and that likely allows them to focus on the quality of the food and service! I highly recommend Cafe Amici!
Food is authentic Italian with fresh pasta. Veal Scallopini was awesome and the mussels appertiser was the best ever. Food was so good we ate there 3 straight nites. Service was great by Maria but way too many tables to take care of thus not enough help in general. Easy to overlook when your meals were outstanding.
Great food great experience!
The food was wonderful. Can’t wait to go back!
Average food and service but noisy
The service is always very good and the food is authentic italian comfort food.
Entree’s were poor quality. The short ribs were extremely fatty. Service was rushed and hospitality was phony.
Excellent as always!
100% Authentic Italian food, fantastic place !!!
Overall good, but some caveats: who I believe was the owner a little bit “un-welcoming” when arriving not recognizing my reservation!!! Hat to show him it at my phone, he said “well, you just made it” so had to show him the confirmation email from Open table received a couple of hours back!! Then we were ok! Second, wanted to order the Spaghetti Neri with baby octopus, and they came and said we don’t have any more the squid ink, so cannot give it to you! Offered spaghetti with baby octopus, which was ok, but just not what they offer in the menu, basically the pata, with the octopus with some sort of tomatoes sauce. Our server a nice lady, a little bit in a rush mode all the time, so my kids order was brought wrong, they had to take it back to bring the right food. However, overall ok, the pasta nicely cooked al-dente and a good selection of wines. It is a nice place in downtown Sarasota Main Street where plenty of nice restaurants can be found,
Will never go again, bad service, noice level so high could not talk, food fair to poor.
We absolutely loved this restaurant. We were only in Sarasota for four nights and ate here twice for dinner. The owners were extremely friendly and the food was outstanding.
Absolutely loved it!! Would definitely come back.
Outstanding appetizer...baked prosuitto and mozzarella.
Food was pretty sub par. Waitstaff was very friendly and was best part of meal. Overall, would not recommend.
