Cafe Amelie Ratings and Reviews
This courtyard patio is just super cute. Great place to have a romantic cocktail. Dinner however left much to be desired. We were never offered any of the fresh biscuits that the other tables seemed to have. As well, when our shrimp and grits app came, it was cold. VERY COLD. This seemed to be the routine for the rest of the meal as well. The chicken entree also featured cold mashed potatoes. The only redeeming part of the meal was the amazing brussel sprouts that we had as a side. One more thing that was annoying... we ordered a bottle of wine, that on the wine list said it was from Oregon, turns out, nope, it was from California. Just little details that should have been taken care of were not. Was very sad, as this was highly recommended and the patio really is super cute, but just be aware that the food isn't worth it.
Uninspired food for a great food city. The wedge salad was fine. My guests seemed to enjoy their meal. It Inwas sorely disappointed with my filet - asked for medium rare and got medium+, terribly over salted and dry. The banana custard dessert likewise was pasty and unpalatable. Overall, disappointing.
Located on beautiful Royal St., we ate here twice on our recent trip for dinner and lunch. For dinner we requested the courtyard and it was delightful. Our server was the best...very friendly and efficient. We ordered the Chicken & Andouille Gumbo and Amelie Mixed Salad for starters.
Both were excellent. We loved our entrees...the double-cut pork chop and special shrimp pasta. Again, both were delicious w/ generous portions. We were surprised for our anniversary with one of the most scrumptious cakes I've ever eaten...their Doberge cake. OMG! Truly to die for. We returned for lunch on our last day. Such a quaint New Orleans' vibe inside. We had onion soup w/ the cheese on toasted bread, which I preferred rather than on top (perfect for a cold/rainy day). We both ordered the Amelie muffaletta sandwich, which was as good as others we had tried in the city. One sandwich would've been enough for both of us. Cafe Amelie exudes New Orleans. It's so close to our hotel, their prices are reasonable for the city and you're sitting in a mid-1800's building/courtyard. Can't wait to return on our next trip.
What a wonderful place to have the last dinner of our visit to NOLA! A quiet, beautiful garden and restaurant. The food was superbly prepared and presented. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The restaurant garden opens on to the street, and since it was slightly chilly (although there were heaters that seemed effective), we opted to eat inside. Windows and doors opened onto the garden, so we could still partake of the beautiful view. I would highly recommend Amelie!
Disappointed! Booked for Sunday Brunch, but the food was very bland and unexciting. Very pricey for what you receive, which in all honesty was grossly inferior to our hotel breakfast. The only saving grace was the pretty courtyard tucked away in Royal Street.
Oh it was a fabulous restaurant with a great ambiance. Food was so delicious. Our only problem was while we were eating our entrees a group of loud boisterous people crowded within inches of our dinner table. We asked them to quiet down but they got louder. I told them this was a fine restaurant, not a sports bar. We got our tab and left as did the table next to us. Disappointed that the bartender, nor our waitress did anything to protect us. We spent a lot of money here and was glad to do it- but someone from this restaurant should of removed these disruptive people and not allowed them to spoil their guest dining experience. I would probably give them another chance as the food was so very good.
Great restaurant ! Super nice staff, very nice food (in fact the best we had in New Orleans), extremely lovely outdoor seating garden and dog friendly ! Our only regret is not to have booked a second evening at Café Amelie. But if we come back to Nola, we will dine here again !
Just when i thought I couldn’t have my mind blown by another great NOLA restaurant, bc they are all great, Café Amelie proved me wrong. The courtyard is charming and comfortable but most importantly the food is out of this world! This restaurant will be a permanent fixture on my “must do” list the next time i visit.
Very disappointed in the restaurant. My sister is a long-term resident of N.O. and has heard wonderful things about the restaurant. We were expecting amazing. Instead:
Ahi tuna stir fry was like college cafeteria food if they served tuna. Yes tuna was very rare but tasted pre-cooked and the dish was just not tadty
Catfish sandwich was tasty, with good ciabatta roll, but worthy of a good sandwich shop, not $16.
Dinner rolls were cold and tasteless
Amelie mixed salad was huge, and ok. Nothing special.
Ladies’ restroom was dirty and dingy.
Courtyard ambiance was not as lovely as expected from reviews. Mostly because of all the couples waiting to be seated. Most seemed to be waiting past their reservation times. At any rate, ours was for 7 and we got seated after 7:15.
Compared to meals at Paladar in the Marigny and a $9 total for lunch at Moon Wok in the French Quarter over the weekend, Cafe Amelie was not worth the price.
Our favorite dining experience in NOLA. The courtyard is beautifully welcoming. Inside is cozy and charming. We had oven roasted salmon that was perfect and finished with an outstanding fruit crumble. Perfect for a date night or small group gathering. We look forward to returning one day.
