Cafe Amelie Ratings and Reviews
Café Amelie was absolutely fantastic! The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere and an excellent location. I have a gluten allergy and our server gave me all the information to find the perfect meal for us. We started with the brussel sprouts, bacon, and dates which is an excellent combination. My partner had the double cut pork chop and I enjoyed the lamb special for the evening. Both meals were excellent, hearty and satisfying.
We were excited to eat in their lovely courtyard but unfortunately the weather was not cooperating with us so we dined in their coach house. The lower floor of the couch house was quite harming and intimate. However they had these ceiling fans with horrible bright white lighting that was really distracting. They could definitely improve the ambiance by making a quick change there.
The food was great. My husband had the special pasta with a poblano cream sauce. It was spicy and delicious. I had the shrimp And grits starter which was perfectly sized for me with three shrimp and some sausage. We both ordered a salad with our meal but the size of the salads was insanely large. They could definitely offer a smaller portion as a pre dinner option. These felt like the size you might get if the salad was your entire meal neither of us finished the salads and there was so much left that it felt really wasteful
The service was very nice and they were attentive.
Our only other complaint weather noise level. For a romantic ambiance such as theirs the noise level was so loud that it was often hard to hear my husband. We were so glad that we had a late reservation and the restaurant started to clear out. We were finally able to hear one another without all of the loud conversations.
The ambiance of the space is wonderful, Because of the low temperatures we were inside the maionette. Although a relatively small space the noise level was suitable.
We had shrimp and grits and the salmon, both were very good, Also the brussel sprots were great
This is a beautiful location to bring a date or that special one, but it is even good for groups or families. It has a Cozy patio and great food. I had the veal shank...outstanding! My wife enjoyed two appetizers...shrimp and grits, and oysters in a spinach and artichoke sauce. Staff was friendly and service was very good. We went at night, but I would love to return again when it is still light out. It is worth a visit.
Totally completely underwhelmed. The place is far too loud, but the alcohol is selling, so they could care less about the noise level. Unfortunately, I was seated beside two groups of obnoxious alcoholics. In my reservation, I specified that I was celebrating an anniversary. That was not taken into consideration. We were seated in the bar area. The table was leaning and almost fell when I slightly leaned on it. The salmon and asparagus were good. The potatoes were hard and cold. The place sucks overall, especially if you're not an alcoholic like majority of the patrons. Scenery is pleasant outside. It's picturesque! Don't be fooled.
We ate lunch and were served cold jalapeño rolls. The food was ok, definitely pricey. Place is over rated for sure. I don’t mind paying for quality but I can cook a hell of a lot better and then the waitress told us she could only take 2 credit cards when web site says 4. I was really disappointed but later that night was redeemed with good food at Jacques imos. They know how to cook and gave us hot buttered corn muffins at the beginning of our dining experience. Maybe they could coach Cafe Amalelie.
Great food, good selection and service.
Fresh well prepared ingredients and everything made to order. Booked through Open Table and was a breeze. Ambience was charmingly historical and a fine example of the French Quarter. Considering all of this, the prices are very reasonable and we highly recommend this as a New Orleans must dine experience!
Cafe Amelie was such a great restaurant. The food was amazing and atmosphere was even better! Unfortunately it was too cold to sit outside, but will definitely do that the next time we’re in New Orleans. The wait staff was fantastic, as well. I highly recommend!
We made reservations for a Friday evening at 6 pm. It was very cool outside so we were happy to be inside. The outside dining area inside a walled court yard was really wonderful. They had some flaming gas torches for lighting (and some heat this evening). It was quite romantic and I'm sure a lot less noisy. All I'll say about the food is that it was my best meal in the 3 weeks we were in town. It was creative, very tasty and just the right amount to be satisfying. My son and wife both agreed with my assessment. While we have a "rule" not to eat in the same place twice on our trip, I was sire tempted by Amelie.
This courtyard patio is just super cute. Great place to have a romantic cocktail. Dinner however left much to be desired. We were never offered any of the fresh biscuits that the other tables seemed to have. As well, when our shrimp and grits app came, it was cold. VERY COLD. This seemed to be the routine for the rest of the meal as well. The chicken entree also featured cold mashed potatoes. The only redeeming part of the meal was the amazing brussel sprouts that we had as a side. One more thing that was annoying... we ordered a bottle of wine, that on the wine list said it was from Oregon, turns out, nope, it was from California. Just little details that should have been taken care of were not. Was very sad, as this was highly recommended and the patio really is super cute, but just be aware that the food isn't worth it.
