The food was good, but not great. We expected more. We’ve all been to Alma before, so we’re looking forward to an exceptional meal. Probably should have gone to the restaurant, not the Cafe.
Cafe Alma’s servers are amazing and so is the food. The front-office staff or checkin desk people don’t match the high standard and exceptional quality of the servers and chefs and cooks. I have dined at Cafe Alma on several occasions and am treated to the same unwelcoming hosts each time. On Wednesday night, I walked in and waited while 2 hosts were chatting about a guest. They ignored me and the person ahead of me who was waiting to be seated. They had not acknowledged his presence either. It wasn’t until a third host appeared (wearing a striking striped shirt) breaking the spell of the hosts’ conversation and greet us customers with “have you been helped?” No said the person ahead of me. No said I. Upon leaving, I pointed out the messy state of one of the bathrooms. Not sure who is supposed to make sure they are clean. Maybe the host is? Anyway, go for the awesome spicy chicken sandwich, lamb burger, bib lettuce salad and vegan rice dish. And the homemade ricotta! And the excellent service after you are seated. Try to ignore the confusing and unwelcoming host station. It’s been a minute and they haven’t figured it out yet. I doubt they ever will.
Alma never disappoints. Great food, impeccable service, great ambiance.
Everything was wonderful. Food and service, as always, were high level. Love Alma - Cafe and Restaurant.
Excellent service and food at cafe Alma. SO glad they added the cafe! The crab on toast appetizer is amazing!
We had an amazing meal! The service was fabulous, the food fantastic (the cauliflower appetizer was insane!) cocktails were carefully crafted works of art! We will definitely be back again soon.
Enjoyed a quick dinner, server and kitchen were great -no rush, but on our time line with great food, nice ambiance. Even the valet had our car ready, as we said we were in for a quick dinner.
This turned out to be such a nice dinner..The small bar snacks we had were great, the ricotta was the best..We had a buttermilk salad that was delicious and fresh. Turkey Burgers were fantastic and the potatoes that came as a side are the best I have had in a long time...Crispy and dipped in mayo.
The duck frites were also very good...Alma makes really really good fries...Loved out cocktails and our wine..We ate early and actually got in on a few Happy Hour drink specials as well..so that was nice..Can't wait to return....Perfect place to meet up with friends and enjoy really good food in a fun and lively atmosphere...
The food was fine. We didn't know what the hype was all about. The smashed potatoes and duck frites was delicious but not something unique. We would not reorder the crab toast. The restaurant was too loud so it was hard to converse and the service could have been more attentive.
They have a very nice happy hour with discounts.
Great place to grab a bite before a show!
Post conference dinner with colleagues
We enjoyed our visit. Cheese plate was a little lacking (expected a lot more for the price). We had just returned from a trip to France so perhaps we were spoiled; but they could put a lot more effort into their cheese plate. Our entrees were good...stuck with the French theme and orders two tartines. Rib special was a good value. Service on beverages was a little slow (would be nice to offer a house wine by the glass so there are some options under $10). Overall high quality food but still room for improvement here and there.
As always, a very special dinner with friends at Cafe Alma. I had the Duck Frites - absolutely spectacular. Mark was our server and he’s simply the best. Feels like an extension of my living room - Mark met my friends and made us feel right at home.
We had a great anniversary experience and the food was fantastic. The 3 for $33 option is the way to go.
Birthday! Fun atmosphere, great food and great service!
Always exceptional experience!
Phenomenal food! Our server, Mark, made the evening even more special with his recommendations, outstanding service and his sense of humor.
Service was outstanding; sadly the food was very disappointing.
We had a wonderful experience at Cafe Alma. We had a reservation for a larger group and several were later for unavoidable reasons. The staff was very understanding and when everyone arrived, we proceeded to have an excellent meal. Everyone found something to love on the menu and our server was excellent. I look forward to coming again.
We had a great meal. Everything was very well done.
Cafe Alma was chosen to celebrate a friends birthday. My husband and I are frequent flyers at both Cafe Alma and Restaurant Alma. They are both favorites and we continue to introduce friends to the wonderful dining experiences.
Delicious food to high expectations!
Three of us had the Sunday Special dinner.
Alma is becoming our go-to place for good food and comfortable surroundings.
The food was amazing. Service was good but a bit slow.
Overall everything was great. We arrived for our reservation a little early and had to wait until a little after our scheduled time. I'm not sure I understand this as there were scattered empty tables the entire time we were there. Our waitress, while pleasant, seemed to disappear for longish times on short requests and we watched our pastries sit on the counter for a while before she returned to hand them to us. Our meals were delicious. I'd order mine again - soft egg scramble. However, my family ordered hand-held breakfast sandwiches and had some issues. The muffin on my daughters was falling apart (the bottom actually broke in half) so if was a messy, slightly unsatisfying way to eat it. My husband had the morty on focaccia. The bottom focaccia bun was soggy. He said it still tasted good, but he knows that if I had received it a soggy bun would mean it was inedible. Still, the atmosphere, menu options and overall taste were quite satisfying. I see returning and would certainly recommend. Prices seemed fine, street parking.
This was not the fine dining Alma experience we were expecting. Reserved 5 weeks in advance and were given a table on the casual, noisy side of the restaurant with a limited bistro style menu.
Always great. The Duck Frites are amazing. One of my favorite restaurants in the Twin Cities. Both the Cafe and Restaurant are consistently the best.
Great brunch. Carrot mimosa was refreshing and fun.
Great coffee and pastries.
We tried Café Alma for the first time during Restaurant Week, and it was fantastic. We will definitely be back!
Cafe Alma never fails to deliver a great experience. On this visit, we had friends from Australia and Ireland at the table. Emily was fantastic in how she led us through the menu and gave us ample room for discussion (we are gabbers). The meal was fantastic: appetizers, salads, entrees, and dessert were all prepared perfectly to our tastes. Plan on a foodie experience - you won't be disappointed.
Great food and atmosphere. I had looked up the menu online and was pleasantly surprised they had an updated fall menu. The only issue was once our food was dropped off wait staff did not return until the very end of the meal. The food was fine but we would have been waiting a long time if it wasn't and coffee cups definitely could have used refills.
Best in town for any meal!
Great food and service but it is quite noisy so if you are looking for an intimate evening this isn’t the place. But if you don’t mind noise it’s great!
Went to a comedy concert at Northrop
Great place to get together with friends and have creative, well prepared food and not spend a fortune. It has some of the feeling (food wise) of it's pricier sibling next door but you can just get a few bits or have several courses in a more casual setting. Staff was very professional and they have a nice wine selection. Our table had a cheese platter to start and the housemade ricotta with herbs and a drizzle of honey was excellent as where the other cheeses. The apple and smoked blue cheese salad was excellent as was the house rigatoni. The lamb burger had great flavor but was a bit dry and the duck confit was solid - not too salty as can often be the case with duck confit. Look forward to dining here again.
Love Cafe Alma. The food is as good as in the Restaurant but less expensive, and the servers and staff are all friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. The Sunday three-course meal is a swell bargain!
Receptionist was a bit crabby and would not seat us early even though our table was vacant and available. She directed us to “the bar” where there was limited room and our group ended up being in the way. We endured dirty looks, but waitress and food were amazing!
Food wasn’t great. Bloody Mary was good. Waitress was nice but took forever to greet us and service seemed slow.
Alma - both the Cafe and the Restaurant are my favorite restaurants for clients, friends and family!
