Great food and atmosphere. I had looked up the menu online and was pleasantly surprised they had an updated fall menu. The only issue was once our food was dropped off wait staff did not return until the very end of the meal. The food was fine but we would have been waiting a long time if it wasn't and coffee cups definitely could have used refills.
Best in town for any meal!
Great food and service but it is quite noisy so if you are looking for an intimate evening this isn’t the place. But if you don’t mind noise it’s great!
Went to a comedy concert at Northrop
Great place to get together with friends and have creative, well prepared food and not spend a fortune. It has some of the feeling (food wise) of it's pricier sibling next door but you can just get a few bits or have several courses in a more casual setting. Staff was very professional and they have a nice wine selection. Our table had a cheese platter to start and the housemade ricotta with herbs and a drizzle of honey was excellent as where the other cheeses. The apple and smoked blue cheese salad was excellent as was the house rigatoni. The lamb burger had great flavor but was a bit dry and the duck confit was solid - not too salty as can often be the case with duck confit. Look forward to dining here again.
Love Cafe Alma. The food is as good as in the Restaurant but less expensive, and the servers and staff are all friendly, knowledgable and accommodating. The Sunday three-course meal is a swell bargain!
Receptionist was a bit crabby and would not seat us early even though our table was vacant and available. She directed us to “the bar” where there was limited room and our group ended up being in the way. We endured dirty looks, but waitress and food were amazing!
Food wasn’t great. Bloody Mary was good. Waitress was nice but took forever to greet us and service seemed slow.
Alma - both the Cafe and the Restaurant are my favorite restaurants for clients, friends and family!
Great restaurant... wonderful servers and food/drinks.
I enjoy the relaxed vibe mixed with great food. Their cocktail menu is fun and the service is terrific.
I've frequently enjoyed Cafe Alma's Happy Hour and have long considered it the best hidden treasure Happy Hour in the twin cities. However, during my last two visits the Happy Hour pricing changed with each visit to create less and less incredible value for the food and drinks. Sadly, what was once a greatly anticipated Happy Hour destination has become simply another Happy Hour to consider...
Perfection! We loved everything about our experience at Alma, thank you!
Service here is always amazing! I usually come for the three course prix fix in the dining room, but the service in the cafe was just as good, even though the cost per seat is way less for brunch! Definitely a testament to how professional the staff are.
Delicious meal with great ambiance and service.
Excellent very very very very excellent
Alex runs a terrific show but the only thing I do not like is the silverware boxes on the table - unsanitary and I want more interaction from the waitstaff. Thank you !
Great casual place. Easy to hear which would make me go back in addition to the foof
The food was outstanding. The service was not. Although our server was professional and friendly, we waited and waited several times to be attended to. In addition, when we asked for extra plates so we could share a salad, the plate that was provided was hot; not exactly what you want for a green salad.
Excellent service. The food is amazing. The Ricotta cheese is reason alone to go back soon!
The food is always excellent at Alma. However, we were quite disappointed on a Sunday evening when we brought guests for the first time to the cafe . The cafe would not accommodate what seemed like a simple request. One of our guests needed dairy-free selections because of allergies. The first course choices were not working for her with this restriction so we asked if she could have the fried cauliflower appetizer instead. We were told the cafe was too busy (it was 7:30pm) to accommodate her request. The server told us the kitchen staff said it was too much of a hassle to figure out cost and amount etc to get the fried cauliflower instead of one of the first course choices. We would probably have been much more satisfied with our visit if the kitchen had simply guessed on the fried cauliflower serving amount instead of telling us they're just too busy to accommodate our guest.
We had a fabulous brunch with friends. Will definitely be back!!
I love this place but it was super busy this time. That means it was VERY loud. I will go back regardless!
Cafe Alma had a wonderfully unique menu. Service was excellent! Can't wait to go back.
Best food in Minneapolis can be found at the formal restaurant Alma. But the cafe is no slouch. Breakfast, lunch or dinner. All very good. The restaurant wine list is available in the cafe upon request. That is a definite plus for me.
Had the Sunday prix fix with salmon crudo, charcuterie, Duck confit, steak, coconut tapioca and peach cobbler. Everything delicious only negative is peaches tasted canned? It was our anniversary and the complementary Prosecco was really a nice gesture. We also appreciate transparency on the 3% for health insurance note and fully support. Peaches was only question everything else fantastic and looking forward to coming back
I was pretty disappointed in our experience at Cafe Alma this weekend. I have been before and had a good experience so I know this isn’t the normal. We arrived a bit earlier than the full service brunch start time and the cafe staff were useless at making us feel welcomed. The hostess who arrived shortly after was also quite useless in being accommodating. It felt like we had to lead them to water in terms of being hospitable and getting us to the table that we would be served at for brunch just 15 minutes later. They could work on some things here to make this a more welcoming space.
Our meal and server ended up being great and I wish the first impression hadn’t tainted the rest of our time at Alma.
I’ve never had a bad meal at Alma and the noise level on a Saturday evening was surprisingly moderate even though the restaurant was full. We love that we’re able to walk there from our place across the river.
After passing Alma by for a while and reading great reviews, I wanted to try it for an anniversary dinner. The first and main problem is that they don't have handicapped parking. I thought this issue was decided 29 years ago with the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. They have a small lot, only about seven stalls, but the law requires at least one ADA compliant stall with an access aisle. When we arrived, the lot was marked valet parking only. There was no other way to safely transfer my wife to her scooter. I tried to explain the problem to the parking attendant, but he wouldn't listen. He was rude and completely spoiled our evening. I left the car in their lot, went inside to explain why we were leaving and their manager said she would accommodate us. We stayed, but will not return.
Excellent food (always!) and superb service. Attentive waitress even provided a complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary.
As always, food, drinks and wait staff were awesome. James knows wine!!!
No complaints. Food was delicious. We'll be back soon. Parking is impossible. But they have valet service.
Professional service in a warm setting. Top quality ingredients and skillful preparation...I’d eat there regularly if I lived in town!
We have a true dairy allergy in our family so the fact that the menu clearly states which items are dairy free ( or gluten free or vegan) was so helpful. Our server was amazing! Incredibly knowledgeable about wines and helped us pair some new wines (to us) with the outstanding food. Couldn’t have been better!
We had a great meal here earlier this year and were excited to go back. Couldn't wait for a burger! Unfortunately the A/C was blasting on our table and there wasn't another available further away (they offered us the table directly behind ours!) The burger wasn't on the menu on Saturdays (bummer!) Our starters came out with the food (odd). We were charged for kids lemonaide refills. Overall, not the experience we were hoping for.
Excellent food and service. We had out-of-town visitors and wanted to give them one of the best dining experiences in the area.
Reunion if family members
Wonderful food and service but so noisy it was hard to converse with our friends over dinner.
Our server, Hameem was outstanding! The food is always excellent (we had the chicken sandwich and a couple of appetizers). Ambiance is hip and fun, but not loud or annoying. This is quickly becoming our go-to hangout. Can’t wait to return.
Great food, but our waitress was a bit slow sometimes. We were there for a family celebration and they treated us very well: they gave each us of a glass of Prosecco to enjoy and sent a couple of appetizers to our table, compliments of the manager.
Would definitely visit there again!
