Brunch: Sunday: 11:00am - 3:00pm;
We were visiting the Bush Library. We found Cafe 43 to have delicious food with great service and lots of smiles!
I had heard good things about lunch at Cafe 43. I was very disappointed in our food. We had fried avocado as an appetizer and the brisket sandwiches with carmelized onions and horseradish. The sandwich was very average tasting—could not taste the horseradish. We both barely made it home because our lunch made us both very sick. We had the same things. Terrible dhirrhea and upset stomach.
I tried to call the restaurant, but there is not a direct number.
I was going to take out of state company in November and take them for lunch there, but now, no way.
Wonderful restaurant - service is impeccable and food is amazing.
I got the avocado toast and my sunny side eggs on top were not hot which meant the yoke was kind of congealed and I found no real seasoning on the avocado toast portion of the meal which made it taste very bland. My partner got the gravy and pulled beef breakfast and the sweet BBQ sauce was very overpowering for a breakfast. I found service and atmosphere to be excellent. This was my 2nd trip, my 1st visit was a home run, my 2nd was very disappointing.
The service was exceptional. Thank you for a nice afternoon at a Texas treasure.
Food was good but not memorable. For the money I expected better. Smoked chicken salad with berries and pecans was very good but the zucchini noodle salad and the corn and crab chowder was just so-so. Soup was served lukewarm. Would probably not cool me back.
The food was good, service was good, but not intrusive, atmosphere was pleasant. I would recommend it, but limited hours may be a problem for some.
Wonderful Sunday brunch. Excellent services with fabulous menu.
excellent, fresh, different takes on typical dishes. nice ambiance
Cafe 43 was very accommodating especially when we arrived early and some of our party joined later. They were terrific, and it's a great space and good food.
Had a lovely lunch with friends! Food was very delicious and beautifully plated. Cost is reasonable.
Overall, this restaurant is consistently very good in all areas.
Nice. Good service!!!
I ordered the Brisket Sandwich with fries. It was a good, typical type Reuben type Sandwich. My friend ordered a salad and said it was good, nothing special. We did treat ourselves to the banana ice cream for dessert and it was delicious! A nice, quiet lunch after our tour of the Bush library.
Happy that Gluten Free bread and desserts available...we had both and they were very good!
Read about the Smoked Chicken Salad, so ordered that, while my friend had Avacado Toast.
Setting was elegantly casual, but could use more sound proofing. Service very attentive, esp. with gluten free options...gluten free dessert fabulous! (Recommend: gluten free info on menu.)
Every other meal here has been excellent. Saturday I chose the corned beef Reuben sandwich. It was virtually inedible because the sauerkraut was placed directly on the bottom piece of bread. it was completely soaked i and gooey in brine. Awful. And the wooden toothpick left a little splinter in the top piece of bread as well. I was extremely disappointed.
The room is beautiful. Food extremely good. Service impeccable.
Cafe 43 has good food, excellent service and is quieter and less frenetic than many area restaurants are at lunch. The menu is diverse enough to satisfy a group and in a nutshell is American classics with a spin (either Texas twist, in season fruits or veggies or healthier than the classic). My mother-in-law uses a walker and is hard of hearing. The staff at Cafe 43 found us a quiet corner where she could hear me and stash her walker. Although she has been a die-hard Democrat for a number of years, had no interest in touring the museum, and wasn't "sold" on my idea of eating lunch there, by the end of our meal she was an enthusiastic fan. Dropping her off was easy and our entire lunch was smooth and enjoyable.
Cafe 43 was the perfect ending to a visit at the Bush library. Service was excellent, food was delicious, atmosphere was pleasant. We enjoyed our time there.
We regularly dine at Cafe 43 after church on a Sunday. The hospitality, service, ambiance and wonderful food make this a favorite restaurant for the two of us.
We drove all the way from Fort Worth in traffic to eat lunch at 43. It was amazing! From the corn chowder to the peach dessert. Everything was excellent. Thank you!
Parking is a little high considering many presidential library’s don’t charge to park
Café 43 was amazing. We were visiting the Presidential Library and was reviewing website and noticed a restaurant and the menu looked very good. Made reservations for the day of our visit. The service was beyond anything expected and our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu, the ingredients and was an overall delight.
The Bloody Mary was very tasty and just a hit of spice. I had the Shrimp/Crab Spaghetti Squash and my partner had the chicken and corn pancakes. We each tasted the others and both were amazing.
To top off our experience she had Laura's favorite cookies and ice cream and I had the Bush's favorite banana/pecan ice cream.
The price was right and the food exceptional. We have visited all but 2 Presidential Libraries and hands down the Bush Library provides the best food choices.
If we lived in lived in the Dallas area we would frequent the Café 43 often.
Please give our compliments to the chef and to the waiter.
A beautiful, peaceful setting was the backdrop for absolutely delicious food and adult beverages. The waitstaff was attentive without being obtrusive; our waiter made good recommendations when asked, and we all had a delightful time. The Southern Benedict was a standout, but everything was yummy. The only drawback was that we were too full to try any of the amazing-sounding desserts. The only drawback was having to pay for parking.
If visiting the Bush Presidential Center, this is an ideal spot to eat as well as enjoy the exhibits.
We stopped in Cafe 43 after visiting the presidential museum. Beautiful decor. Very refined with interesting paintings and lots of sunlight. The food was delicious and the service very friendly. Perfect end to our visit.
Except for the cold temperature of the room, everything was very nice.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and the lunch salads. Desserts were also a nice indulgence!
Excellent brunch. We’ve been there many times for lunch. Always an excellent experience. Bring just as good.
The atmosphere is lovely at this cafe that is part of the George W. Bush presidential museum on the SMU campus. Big windows overlook the campus and areas planted with native grasses, and the art on the walls includes a piece from Mr. Bush himself. Our service was outstanding, and the value is excellent as well. The food is very good, but does not reach the level of outstanding because of some little inconsistencies. My daughters loved the avocado toast that they ordered, but I was less impressed by my chicken served with a corn pancake. The flavors melded together well, but it all felt a little dry. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this restaurant for its inventive dishes made with local ingredients, the unexpectedly low prices on the brunch menu, and the convenience to the museum.
I was expecting something wonderful & ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad ... which all I could taste was the ‘special’ vinaigrette used to dress this salad. Chicken looked drab and was cold.
Cafe 43 was excellent! The service was wonderful, and the food was fantastic!
Cafe 43 is a unique brunch spot. However it is overpriced and not for the casual diner. Some people will like the Texas ingredients but it tends to be a little bland. Everything I have tried there has been very dry. They should try addiusome sauces to their meat dishes
My wife and I visited the Bush Library and Museum for about two hours then broke for lunch that was more than we expected. The service and food were excellent. We both had the lump crab salad served with a large avocado half filled with the crab plus greens and corn with bacon bits and a great vinegarette dressing, paired with a very good chardonnay. Enough to give us the energy to attack the museum for another couple of hours. It enhanced the whole day's experience.
The menu was a dream list of Texas favorites. But the food was bland. Even salt and pepper didn’t enhance the dishes we each ordered enough to call them flavorful. But the location is stunning and the staff from host stand to wait staff was excellent and took great care of us. Just ramp up the flavors please.
I was visiting in the Dallas area and the George W Bush Presidential Museum. I ate at Cafe 43 during my visit. I ordered the banana, peach, pecan french toast which was more like a bread/ cake. It was delicious . The waiter was very polite and the whole atmosphere was relaxing. Pricing seemed comparable to other area restaurants.
Food was amazing. The quality was really good an the price was cheap. Definitely recommend this place, especially if visiting the Bush Library.
This is a very special place. It was my sister’s birthday, and we had a wonderful time. We never felt rushed, yet we received wonderful attention from the staff. I highly recommend Cafe 43.
The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We will definitely return.
The food was incredible and so was the service, very reasonably priced. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice but fairly priced meal.
