   The waiter got the drink order wrong when my husband had asked for a pineapple margarita. We Couldn’t get his attention. Then when we did he took a while to bring it back but fixed the problem.

   We've eaten here several times and the food is good, but it's becoming a theme that the service is just not what it used to be. While we've all learned to lower our expectations it makes for a frustrating experience when you see your waiter when she takes your order and then not again until you are given your bill. Empty water cups and cold food made for a sad dinner date with my husband. :( I think we'll take a break from this place and try again in a couple of years.

   We had a reservation for a party of 7 at 6:00. Showed up at 6 and was told it would be a 45 minute wait unless we would like to eat at the bar. Very frustrating when you made a reservation and assumed that meant you would be seated within 10 or so minutes of that. The service was wonderful, but we also waited for our food almost an hour after ordering.

   For starters Cactus is usually pretty good during the lunch hour. This was a Friday evening at 5:30. We were sat on time. Service was so slow. Ordered the Buffalo chicken dip as an appetizer, it’s a huge dish of shredded chicken loaded with cheese on top and it was cold! The cheese on top was melted, the cheese under it and the dip was cold and lacked any flavor. Ordered the cream cheese chicken enchilada - the same shredded chicken in the dip was in the enchilada, dry and no flavor. Partner ordered the black and bleu steak, it was okay, nothing to write home about. Overall it’ll be a long while before we attempt this place again.

    Sometimes your expectations surprise you at a dining establishment. You might be surprised when a greasy spoon not-so-classy diner gives you an amazing meal. And then there are those times when your expectations are missed based on the venue, the ambiance, and the ownership. Cactus (by Venue) was just such an experience for us. We booked a table, using the ever-so-useful Open Table app, and were seated promptly upon our arrival. The exterior and interior are nicely designed. We chose a high-top table and that decision placed us in the cantina side of the restaurant, which we were fine with. Our server was pleasant, fairly prompt, and attentive. He seemed to be well trained, which we appreciate. We had been told that a great appetizer was something called “The Hot Mess”. Our server confirmed that opinion and we went with it. It was the star item of the night. A really good dish with a really unique name. I’d call it a “must order “ for a Cactus appetizer. Their menu is uniquely varied, not your typical Mexican menu. Hamburgers, wedge salads, rice bowls, etc. But we wanted to try their Mexican, so we ordered the Cream Cheese and Cactus Chicken Enchilada and a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup (made in house). Our entree was good, not great. For our taste, it had too much cream cheese and not enough Mexican taste, lacking heat and spice. The soup was also good, not exceptional. So the rating is average for Cactus Modern Mexican and Cantina. It’s worth a try, but our expectations were not met on the night we tried it. However, as with all experiences, it depends on what you order and your tastes, so we’d say, give it a try and see what you think. We’ll likely try Cactus again.

    I would highly recommend dining at Cactus. The hot mess dip and chicken tortilla soup are outstanding. Happy hour. Prices are not very discounted... Maybe 50 cents off of your margarita. And watch out for some other prices. Some of the happy hour prices are higher than regular prices for their dips, etc. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating.

    Gone are the free chips and salsa. Prices are up and portions are down. I think their uniqueness is waning, sadly. I sure that they can turn it around.

    It is extremely loud. The restaurant needs to warn it’s customers about music bingo. The bingo is taking place in the bar area but the noise level makes it difficult to hold a conversation. Also after the bingo was over the restaurant speakers were turned up. Again making it difficult to talk.

    Took forever to be greeted. We had to ask our server if we could order, ask for drinks, asked for our ticket. Dinner for 2 people took almost 2 hours. The food was not great either. Disappointed!

    Great food, great service & great atmosphere. Would definitely return. The quieter dining side is fantastic. If you want more, there is the bar area where you can eat also. Both are wonderful - provide different atmospheres under the same roof!

    I reserved outdoor seating as it was a nice day out. Unfortunately, we ended up sitting directly in the Sun. We were the only table in direct sunlight. Not Cactus' fault, though. I ordered the fajitas with chicken and steak. I was very disappointed with the quality of the steak. It was tough. The chicken was dry. I must admit that this was my least favorite Mexican experience in Lincoln in recent memory.

    Our table of four sat on the shaded patio. Our server was excellent and he didn’t rush us (we were there almost two hours.) The food was fresh, seasoned well & tasted great!

    We made reservations for lunch on Mother's Day, which was a good idea since they filled up. The restaurant didn't appear too busy; patrons were generously distanced. Our server was super and the food was really fresh and delicious. We started with the dip sampler and the kids ate it as fast as the adults. The Caribbean Shrimp bowl lasted for 2 meals and the fajitas were devoured. We were disappointed that there was no special for Mother's Day... No mimosas, no flowers, no buffet, no special menu items or dessert... That was too bad for us mommies.

    The food and service at Cactus was outstanding, but the noise level was ridiculously high. We were totally unable to talk with our dining companions and ended up unsure if we would be back. This was even though we were seated on the dining room side rather than the bar side. The noise level is a shame, because certainly the owners have worked hard to try to develop a good product and have succeeded as far as food and service goes. It doesn’t take rocket science to adjust a restaurant’s surroundings to decrease the noise level and allow for a reasonably civilized experience. I find interesting that the preset in the review termed a high noise level “energetic“. I would term it obnoxious and aversive. If I want an “energetic” experience, I would go to a sports bar, not a restaurant trying to be a bit more upscale.
