Ca Del Sole Ratings and Reviews
The food came out far too quickly. I was still halfway through my starter of clams, then the main course turned up. Whilst I could/should of sent the main back until I had finished the starter I didn’t. Leaving no time for my starter to settle. The server was quick to top your wine glass up even though we hardly had a sip out of it. Then at the end of the meal he was hovering around waiting for me to sort the bill out. So overall: the wine was average (for the price $75). The food quality was average, nothing special. And the service was poor. They wanted you out the door ASAP even when there was only about 3 tables to serve when we left. The server knew I was unhappy with the service (by my facial expression) and never bothered to ask if the food was okay. On google the review was 4.5 out of 5 so I was expecting something special, instead I’d rate it a 2 at best with organisation and service at the standard of an in out burger.
I used to frequent this place about 13 years ago and absolutely loved their Osso Buco. I have not been here since then, and decided it was time to re-visit this old-favorite spot. The Osso Buco was every bit as wonderful as I remembered it, and the entire experience did not fail to impress. Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. I will definitely NOT wait another 13 years to make a return visit.
We were lucky to get a cabana outside because there was a no show - off to a good start! We released the canvas sides to give us tremendous privacy - a lovely experience to be able to see the courtyard, yet have total privacy from the cabana. The waiter was prompt and friendly and we ordered Prosecco. So far so great!
We ordered a delicious seared scallop appetizer that was perfect!
Then we ordered the entree. I got the Branzino and my date ordered Osso Bucco - one of her favorites. the food arrived in a timely manner and the Branzino was good - not really flaky, but pretty tasty and on a bed of baby artichokes that was unique and delicious. The Osso Bucco, however, was a total disappointment. It was completely covered in a thick tomato paste/chunks and was dry and tough. My guess is it was at least 3 days old - possibly older (I get that osso bucco is hard to make and once you do it you don't want to waste it, but this was borderline "jerky.") We had to send it back.
Ordered a second Branzino just because we figured it would be fine, and it was.
I ordered a lemoncello for dessert and my date ordered a port. We got a retail lemon cello that I recognized from the store, but my date was served a sweet, sparkling dessert wine that was not on the menu - and was not a port. The waiter explained that she had ordered a dessert wine that was comparable to what he served - that was weird. She ordered a different port, liked it. We were not charged for the food and beverage we sent back, and so I thank the waiter and management for that.
We expected the food to be better (the osso bucco is priced at $35). The waiter was accommodating and despite the glitches, we will be back to Ca del Sol.
I went to the restaurant with a friend for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night. It was extremely busy and our server was a bit overwhelmed. The food was delicious and I had a complimentary dessert. Everything considered, it was still an excellent dining experience.
My sister & brother-in-law were visiting from Northern California so I took them to Ca Del Sole and they LOVED it! My brother-in-law is 100% Italian and said how authentic the food was. We really enjoyed a lovely evening on the patio - great atmosphere.
Thank you for making this one of my favorite places to dine.
Another birthday celebration, restaurant chosen as favorite by my guest. Started with Mumm's champagne toast, Tuna Tartare appetizer (delicious) and we each ordered Branzino. My guest ordered the one from the regular menu and I chose the Special. The preparation and sauce in the regular menu selection was outstanding. The Special was dry and rather tasteless by comparison. But we definitely enjoyed the meal and the service provided by Mario. As my friend does not like dessert, he brought a dish of berries with a candle. Very thoughtful. Also cappuccinos. Always a lovely experience at Ca del Sole.
Ca Del Sole is always great. Food is a 10! I had the swordfish special with steam spinach and roasted potatoes and I would have it again.
I used to go here for business lunches often until I stopped working in the area. I don't remember the price points being high. Although lunch for 2 was $100 with tip I would go again.
The people working at the restaurant were very attentive and helpful. We we going to a play about 15 minutes away and they were very mindful of that fact . The drinks were brought timely and the food came very warm and very good. I would recommend the restaurant to friends.
I've been here several times and haven't been disappointed yet. But this time around, the service was so bad, it was hard to believe and I may never return to this restaurant. There are so many options in Los Angeles. Service was just terrible. Had to ask for simple things like water, bread, etc several times, of several people and none of them followed through. The waiter only paid attention to one side of the table and ignored the rest of us. Came around with Parmesan and didn't ask half the table if they wanted any. Had to find him and ask. Even when we mentioned that half the table was missed, there was absolutely no change in attitude or behavior. The response to any request or question was met with such a rude disposition that it was hard to believe was happening. When the check was paid in cash, no change was returned to us. We had to ask for that too and got a rude look for that as well. It is up to the customer to leave a tip, not the waiter to keep the entire payment assuming that the entire thing is for tip. Absolutely ridiculous.
Nice, quiet restaurant. Old world, busy, not to noisy. Food is good. I would recommend this place to friends. Have a lovely patio for private parties. Wait staff is very efficient. Only one thing bothered me. Waiter brought bill and commented to me how cheap the bill was ($130+).
All I could figure out was that he was trying to tell us we didn't order enough food so he deserved a bigger tip. With this comment, the tip got smaller, not bigger.
