Great location if you are attending an event at the Wiltern Theater since it's right across the street. The outside looks pretty shady (it's in the lobby of the Ramada). However, it's very nice inside and the host/waitress was very attentive.
We were asked for our drink order immediately and they brought bread and tapenade. I ordered the sole in parchment paper and it was tasty and a big portion. My husband ordered the chicken with mustard sauce and said it was okay. Both came with steamed brocolli and roasted potatoes (the brocolli was perfectly cooked).
We thought this was the former famous CaBrea in a new location. Totally disappointing. Food was decent, but restaurant looks like a diner. It was completely empty. There was one woman who was hostess, bartender, waitress, buser. The whole thing was very odd. Might be a place for lunch if you work in Korea town, otherwise I can't image why anyone would go there.
My wife and I tried Ca' Brea for the first time last Saturday, prior to that night's Bill Joel concert at Dodger Stadium. All our favorite places in the Silverlake area were booked, so Ca' Brea turned out to be a nice alternative. Clean, modern look inside what is essentially a family run restaurant, which we like to support whenever we see one. In fact the family itself was having a private, pre-Mother's Day dinner in a private room, just off the main dining room. The evening was early, so there were only a few tables besides ourselves, and just two employees whom we saw evidence of, our waitress and the chef. The wines they offered were so-so, probably to keep them affordable, but the Italian food was excellent and plentiful. Nice place.
Owner and Mom (front of house) more interested in chatting with each other rather than greeting and serving customers. Ordered mushroom salad and osso buco. Food was generally under seasoned, except the broccoli which was nice. Like other posts, music was weird club music and not conducive for dining at 7:00 on Saturday. Restaurant attached to the Ramada, the restroom was a mess. Generally felt they don't care about the customer experience.
We got an eggplant parmegiano and a risotto. The risotto was fine, nothing to brag home about. On the other hand, the eggplant was so bad that we just decided it wasn't worth coming back or trying anything else on the menu. The cheese on top was the one you find on a pizza hut pizza, the tomato sauce was sweet instead of being savory, and the eggplants were not cooked right. How can you mess up 3 out of 3 ingredients in a dish is beyond me. The rest of the menu is probably fine, but missing the mark so badly on a simple dish like that is just not enticing me to come back. The service was great and friendly, though.
This restaurant makes me sad; it could be terrific but they make no effort to make it a great dining experience. On the plus side, the food is extraordinary, but that is the only plus to be noted. There is only one server...yes, only one in a fairly large space...who tries really hard and is very nice, but despite the small patronage that I have noted both times I have been there, it is impossible for her to keep up. She enlisted the help of a kitchen worker when serving the food, but he was in grubby pants and a wife-beater t-shirt which was far from appetizing! The space has NO ambiance; they don't even try. One of the table we had for our party of eight had graffiti scratched onto it's service. Tablecloths, candles and dimmed light would go a long way to helping improve the place. I have decided that take out is the way to make this place work.
The owner served us and she was amazing and very polite, she did forget some things we said but right away acknowledge it and apologized, understanding as her granddaughter was visiting. The food was so amazing. I had the chicken alfredo and it's the best flavor I've ever had.
We went to this restaurant before a concert at The Wiltern and their customer service was excellent. The food was delicious, everyone in my party was happy with their choices (I loved the rigatoni with eggplant and mozzarella!) and the prices were reasonable. It was quiet while we were there, and you could have conversations and hear yourself talk. The bread was warm and yummy! The staff frequently checked on us, as they knew we had somewhere to be and wanted us to have enough time. I would definitely recommend Ca' Brea!
Don't be fooled by the outside, we almost didn't go in, but so glad we did. My friend and I sat in a big booth in the back for at least 2 hours before a concert at the Wiltern. There was lot's of privacy for conversation and the noise level was fine even when the dining room filled up. The food was better than expected. The owner (I believe) was very nice to us. She made us feel wanted and appreciated. The server we had before the owner took over (not sure what happened to our server - shift over, break, etc...) wasn't really extraordinary. She did her job, took our order, didn't make any mistakes but just dropped off our food and took off fast. No offer of fresh grated cheese or pepper. I thought that was odd. She is the reason this is not a 5 star review. The plain coffee is not worth mentioning - I should have had a cappuccino, don't know why I didn't. The cheesecake is wonderful.
You should definitely check this place out if you are in the area!
This used to be a wonderful restaurant, but in the new location the ambiance is much more casual and ordinary, and food is just average. We had a lot of different dishes, and I would not go back for any of them. This might be a decent place to go before or after a concert at the Wiltern (a block away), for a quiet glass of wine and a meal. But the prices are high for not very interesting food. The service was fine, but there is nothing about the food to make me want to come back.
It is worth noting that the restaurant is now in the middle of Koreatown, with several restaurants nearby that we passed while walking to Ca'Brea. The other restaurants had a terrible stink to them, like rotting, burning fish. It was a big loss to the appetite walking there, and we almost left except that we had a reservation and it was New Year's Eve. The place was practically deserted, and now I understand why!
Ca Brea provides quality Italian food in an unlikely place...on the border of Hancock Park and Koreatown...Situated in a Ramada Hotel on Wilshire Blvd, I confess I was a bit apprehensive whether the restaurant could produce good Italian food, but we were not disappointed. Portions were generous and good, at a reasonable price. The decor is definitely modern, no red booths or hanging grapes.
I definitely recommend Ca Brea, and look forward to returning. By the way, there is free parking in the Ramada parking lot.
As usual, no disappointment for foods, fresh octopus flown from Italy and good steak. Salads are always fresh and just lightly dressed to taste the beets and toasted pecans among greens.
I'm not a drinker so can't mention about the liquor selection or quality, although I see people drinking at the bar. It's sad to see that many are not coming to this gem even though parking is easy, if you know that there are plenty spaces next door where you are allowed to park.
This restaurant has terrific food and the staff were attentive and very nice. However, the restaurant has NO AMBIANCE AT ALL. A bunch of tables and blank walls, there seems to have been no effort at all to create an atmosphere for a dining experience, which is sad given the quality of the food. I might return with my wife since we liked the food, but I would never recommend it to anyone looking for a fine dining experience. The interior is so off putting that it sort of ruins the experience.
New location in Korea town but still the same good old Ca'Brea food as they were on La Brea. 1st floor at Ramada Inn on Wilshire near Western. Parking could be tricky. Don't park at the hotel parking structure. It's ok to park at next building's rear parking lot. There is an opening to walk up to a hotel.
Excellent food and service... Not busy yet as they did not advertised the move, so you could relax and enjoy the ambience as long as you want. Glad they brought good Italian food into K town.
The service was an issue for my party. Nothing major... Just a collection of minor things that made the meal less enjoyable.
We had to repeatedly ask for menus for everyone in the party. The restaurant was warm inside. It barely felt like any air was moving. We had to ask multiple times for a coffee we ordered. A couple of us ordered blueberry lemonades, but we got regular lemonades brought to us. So, had to send those back. We asked for waters and for some reason the server didn't fill up all the cups. Once we ordered, it took over 20 minutes for the food to come despite the restaurant being completely empty. There was no soap or hand towels in the ladies room. AND - super minor -- we ordered panini breakfast sandwiches and they came out just on regular bread. We were expecting toasted bread... Like every other panini I've ever had in my life. Food tasted fine, just slightly different than what we had expected. This was our first time at this restaurant and we were hoping to find a neighborhood gem. But we didn't really find anything that would make us want to come back.
The best personal service, excellent food, wine. Comfortable and cozy right in the middle of the city. Beautiful dining room and bar. What a lucky find for us. Restaurant is family owned and in business for 25 years. Meats, seafood,and vegetables were super fresh.
We were long-time patrons of Ca' Brea when it was located on La Brea. While the food was excellent as it always was, and certainly the value was there, the ambiance as we knew it is gone. The service was great and the staff was very friendly, the meal was served nicely and in a timely manner, as always. If one had never been to the previous Ca' Brea, they would be pleased with their choice of restaurant and delighted with the meal.
This is not the old Ca'Brea in any sense. I will never go to the new location. The hostess was too busy hanging out with 3 guests who were there. Told me to sit wherever I wanted. Didn't provide any menus. The place wreaked of bleach. The ambiance was that of a dive and was inappropriate for a business dinner I was having. Our party ended up leaving after we were ignored for awhile. I also couldn't hold my breath any longer.
Excellent value, Italian food, near Wiltern Theater, at ground level in the Ramada. Free parking, and left car there while we went to Wiltern with no issues. Staff was very attentive, fine for casual or even dressy. We will be back and recommend to friends.
My girlfriends and I originally made reservations for dinner, but we noticed their happy hour extended to 10pm so we decided to stay at the bar. The wine selection was good, especially for happy hour. And the food list had plenty of pasta choices that we had our eyes on from the regular dinner menu. Extra pluses to our bartender who recommended these delicious pasta dishes:
Gnocchi - amazing bolognese
Penne arrabiata - just the perfect amount of spice
Butternut squash Ravioli - it's just so plain good!
A group of 5 of us came to Ca' Brea to try out their DineLA menu for dinner and we loved it! The place wasn't that crowded and we were seated at one of the booth areas. The couches were really good for lounging and the booth itself made it felt like we were in a private room. The waiters and servers were super attentive, always making sure our water and bread basket was full. One guy consistently checked in on us and asked about our food, and I really appreciated that.
We had the shrimp cakes and the carpaccio for appetizers. Both were really good, and it was well balanced.
We tried the lamb, duck, and spaghetti, and they were all amazing. Portion size was good and everything was well made. The pasta portion was huge and there was plenty of seafood. After the main course we had hit a good level of being full.
The dessert was just the icing on top! We tried the homemade cheesecake and the tiramisu. I personally liked the cheesecake more, it was light and delicious!
Would definitely come back again to try out their other stuff on the menu.
My friend and I came here for dineLA and were pretty disappointed. The place was empty, which I did not have any problems with, but with little to no customers, the service should have been much quicker. Our waitress stopped by our table twice, to take our orders and to take our plates away. In the meantime, we waited maybe twenty minutes for our food. Unfortunately, adding to the disenchantment, the kitchen was out of the main course I had wanted to order. To make matters worse, when our food came out, our server gave it to the wrong party (a couple who had arrived and been seated much after us) so we had to wait even longer for our plates.
The food was alright. The tiramisu dessert was the tastiest part of the meal; the calamari, pumpkin ravioli, and eggplant dish were okay but I would not give a glowing recommendation to anyone.
Overall, I've had better. If you're in Korea Town and you want Italian, you could head here but you probably won't get the greatest meal for your dollar.
