Joshua took great care of us great waiter! Excellent food and beautiful and elegant atmosphere!
The food was outstanding and the environment and decor is incredibly well done.
I was hoping for a wonderful experience. I had heard good things. The building and decor is gorgeous. The service was horrendous. I ended up leaving half way through lunch in compete frustration. I don't think I have ever done that before.
Full disclosure: I own a restaurant. While it is not a fine dining restaurant, we offer farm fresh ingredients that are made fresh daily. If I saw one of my servers ignoring a table the way we were ignored, I would fire them. There were three tables in the restaurant while we were there and at least two servers. Pitiful.
By George is still working out some of the kinks that come with opening a new restaurant, but we still enjoyed a good meal and good service. I look forward to trying them again in the future.
Service was very slow but wait staff thanked us for our patience. Entrees were undercooked but some sides were delicious. Beautiful hotel and lovely ambiance.
Exceptional service but the food was very bland and not worth the hefty price .
You have to go into your reservation knowing that service will be slow. We went for lunch and there were maybe a dozen other diners but a 3 course lunch still took 1hr & 20 mins. Service was very good on the drag level and the food was wonderful. Save room for dessert as the pastry chef is amazing
This restaurant has been such an unexpected surprise! I’m a guest at the hotel so I decided to try it my first night in Atlanta! OMG! It was fabulous - gorgeous ambiance and a very professional and friendly staff! My dinner was totally first class starting with an amazingly fresh chicory salad! My main course of salmon melted in my mouth and the lentil side dish was simply perfection! I spent 2 weeks a year in downtown Atlanta and this restaurant is heads above all the others I tried - not even close! So I must confess, I have now eaten here 4 nights in a row! My servers, Teele , Karen, Char and Myeesha were exceptional. BY GEORGE is a delicious treat!
Food was superb and our server Shar was fabulous. She was knowledgeable, friendly, professional and had a great sense of humor.
The food is excellent, if pricey. We came on a busy night and unfortunately the place was kind of chaotic and the service was poor. Our server was nice and knowledgeable, and took our orders in a reasonable amount of time. Then things broke down. Long long waits for each course - so long that two hostesses had to come over to apologize, though they didn't do anything to make it right. Table next to us was seated after us but had eaten and paid the bill before we even received our entrees. Empty plates sat on our table forever before we could finally flag someone down to bring our check. I hope they can work out the service kinks - I probably won't be back for awhile.
Overall, I had a great experience. My one complaint is that our appetizers didn't come out quick enough so they were a bit cool, which isn't good for escargot or French fries.
This is a beautiful space and the service was very good. The food on the other hand was borderline disgusting. Maybe it was just what I ordered, but the roasted chicken was partly undercooked, the cooked portion was flavorless and dry and the presentation was awful. Publix roast chicken is gourmet compared to what I was served.
Beautiful space for those special celebrations! Unique menu offerings. Staff was very helpful in their descriptions of both food and wine. One of us had prix fix dinner while the other ordered a la carte. Both of us satisfied.
Was not crowded when we got there about an hour before our reservation to check out the space. Bar service was inexplicably slow. Had to go to the empty bar and order our drinks. Met some friends, and we had one round of drinks. And that was it. Those glasses say empty on the table for a good 20 to 30 minutes. I finally got up again to order another drink. At the time of our reservation, we got the check. Now, this is important. No one said anything to us about this. I grabbed it and went to the bar to settle up, while the rest of our party went to Maitre D'. The bartender informed me it was cash only! $130 bar tab, cash only. It turns out the Internet was down. Understandable kind of, but they need to tell their guests that before they run up a $100-plus bar tab. It was inconceivable. We huddled up and decided since we were there, we would just get money out of the ATM. Diner service was super slow. When I asked about the Prize Fixe menu - which looked awesome - our waiter stammered and stumbled and finally went and got someone else who went into way too much detail about every item. The food was great - creative, delicious, everything you would hope for. But the service needs to catch up with the food and the ambiance. Not sure we'll come back.
Excellent food and the chef made my dish extra special
Blown away very well trained food excellent restaurant beautiful
I would recommend By George to certain people because I know they would enjoy seeing the beautiful lobby and restaurant. I would not necessarily recommend By George as an outstanding dining experience. You might want to call ahead and order a drink because for some reason it takes a very long time for that to happen - even when there is only 2 people sitting at the bar and you are at a table on a VERY slow night.
Everything from start to finish was excellent. Josh was great! Bartends were fun and the food was fantastic!
The food was divine.
Fantastic food and service. Seriously the best lentils I’ve ever eaten. Charming and attentive staff, who gave us great service but plenty of room for conversation. I can’t wait to go back.
Hi Sarah! Thank you for your review - we hope to see you soon!
Outstanding. Fixed price menu for NYE. They probably should have added that to the website. Food was amazing.
I loved the interior of this building and the setting. The marble and sculpture are wonderful. The food and service were fantastic. The complimentary valet service is a real bonus (but don't forget to tip for this) I had the roasted half chicken - it has a french name but still chicken - lol. The parker house rolls are mouth watering yum- I suggest you eat those with a fork as they are so buttery and you should savor every bite.
We will go back!
Exceptional food, ambiance and service! An important addition to Atlanta's re-emerging downtown scene. Highly recommend.
Everything about this restaurant is stunning. It is superb!
Beautiful setting. Classic French food. Only critique is that they don’t make their own gluten free bread.
Long-time fan of Empire State South, and really loved the now closed Florence in Savannah; so was looking forward to By George. Unfortunately was a miss for me, especially for the $$$. For the starters - the Langoustines tasted ok, but were very over-grilled so chewy. Foie gras terrine was really good, but served with small pieces of toast that were so soaked in butter it was a soggy mess. For the main, had salmon, good flavor, but sat in a bowl of sauce - which was also tasty, but way too much; was like soup. The service was friendly, but inexperienced. We had to get another server to suggest wines - which once we had her, the wine recommendation was great; probably best part of the meal. The building and dining are beautiful, nice rehab of the building. So overall, was an ok dinner, but I was expecting better.
The meal was spectacular.
We went for Christmas Eve dinner. We opted for the a la carte menu rather than the holiday one because we were planning to serve lamb at home on Christmas. The food was very good. I haven’t had liver in ages, and it was a treat. Service was a bit spotty. We ordered a bottle of wine that wasn’t brought to the table until we were halfway through our entrees. Otherwise it is a great addition to the downtown dining scene.
Oh, mon mon mon.
Super underwhelmed. Saw Hugh Acheson on CBS This Morning’s The Dish the day before and intentionally made a Sunday lunch reservation as a result. Ordered a $120 bottle of rose champagne followed up with oysters and pomme frites to start with. We eat oysters regularly and both agreed the oysters were definitely off and sent them back. In addition to, one of the accompanying sauces was frozen on the bottom. The Pomme frittes were limp and the presentation was lack luster. The waitress did offer us a complimentary crab salad which was good however it was presented with saltine crackers which somehow missed the mark. We decided to finish the bottle of champagne and went somewhere else to eat. Love his other ATL restaurant, Empire State South.
As a wheelchair user, the restaurant's unfamiliarity with the need to meet the needs of people in wheelchairs was off-putting. In their favor, the restaurant is newly open and did not seem to know about getting the elevator to work efficiently. The food was good but not great and somewhat overpriced.the service was slow and at the end, even though we had told the server that we wanted to be able to leave quickly, he was not making any particular effort to get us out.
The space is very nice and the service was excellent. Our server Angel was outstanding. The food was generally good. However the fries that came with my burger were mushy. Given the prices, I would expect more attention to the details.
We greeted by the concierge and taken to our table. It’s a beautiful building and setting. More fine dining. The food was great but service could have been bit better for the price. We had a great night!
Took folks that report to me for a thank you holiday lunch.
The space was amazing.
The service was good but the server was not as attentive as I would have liked.
I started with as slip pea soup which was good but did not wow me. I also order the burger, medium rare, it came out medium. The fries that came with the burger were not crisp and were a soggy and oily. Not what I would expect from a French inspired menu. A coworker order the Roast Chicken, she said it was tough and was underwhelmed by her choice.
The space is so great that I would give it a chance for dinner.
The setting is magnificent, it feels as though you're transported to another time of elegance and sophistication. The service our group received was friendly and attentive. The menu is limited and one hopes that the chef will soon find a signature that distinguishes the cuisine from that which you will find at many other "good" restaurants.
Food was reasonably good, and service was friendly, but very uneven. Certain items that were ordered took forever to come to the table (in a half-full restaurant, leading one to wonder how much worse it would be on a night when the restaurant was full). This spotty slowness led to a quip that the name of one one cocktail referred to the bartender’s own “Idle Hands.” Clearing of the table began before all were finished eating. Outstanding appetizer was the steak tartare - other appetizers were ok, but not notable/memorable. Vichyssoise had a weird acidic tang. Pot au feu and Steak Diane were good but, again, not memorable. All-in-all, acceptable, but not a place I’d want to rush back to.
Confused service, poor timing resulting in cold food. Asked for the manager and it was the Beverage manager that appeared and who also seemed confused.
Food seemed flavorful but not as served.
Possibly the worst French fries I’ve ever had. Pure grease and not crispy at all. It seems Hugh Acheson our zero effort into making sure items were properly prepared. Could have gotten a better burger and fries at McDonald’s.
Very unique experience; five stars plus. Highly recommended!
We dined on a Sunday night and it wasn't full. There seemed to be only one server and while she was good (spent a lot of time explaining the menu to every table - admirable, but we were sitting and waiting for cocktails), it was clear she was overwhelmed. Our appetizer never showed up; when our food arrived, much of it was cool or cold. We had time constraints and decided just to quickly leave rather than offer a ton of feedback.
