A cozy full service restaurant in the heart of Capitol Hill. With executive chef Joseph Nardo in our kitchen, and known Capitol Hill restaurant alumni Bart Hutchins on our floor; come and join us for cocktails, wines, and well composed french dishes in the evening. Or if you are an early bird, we have a full cafe and daytime service offering our house blend espresso, a beautiful selection of teas, and a separate daytime food menu to help you start your day. We are open Wednesday to Sunday. Our daytime service is 8am till 3pm, and dinner is from 5pm till late.

Everything about Butterworth was great. The service the food the vibe. The Restaurant bar is an eclectic group of whose who in DC. The Crispy Cauliflower was very good I especially liked the steak This is now my go to spot in DC

I think most of the staff left town for the holiday weekend because the remaining staff seemed set up for failure. Impressive friendly floor manager seemed like he was doing everything from hosting to expediting to basically being the only server. Will try again because we really want to like this place but last night was not a success.

Beautiful space, great ambience, and excellent service. Sadly, the food didn’t wow. The white asparagus would have been wonderful, but several pieces were so stringy they were impossible to cut. The steak tartare was very nice- impeccably fresh and flavorful. The duck was a bit tough and lacking in flavor. The cauliflower was so unappetizing to look at that we didn’t even try it- it was just so brown….However, the French fries are truly the best I’ve had in a long time- crisp, salty, and fried to golden brown perfection. Those alone will get me back in the door, and I’m hopeful that my next visit will prove that I just came on an off night. Lots to like here.

This is my first visit and we split several things on the menu. Everything was delicious. The cabbage Caesar was a great twist on a classic. The beef cheeks were excellent as was the crudo.

Butterworth’s couldn’t have been more accomodating for our group! We had a wonderful time, food was delicious, loved the variety of drinks and service was very attentive.

The restaurant has charming decor and ambiance. Our server was a cheerful and competent young man. The food leaves a lot to desire. The asparagus soup- a spring special- was bitter with a stringy consistency and off putting color. It was taken off our check as I could not eat more than a spoon of it. The scrambled eggs on toast were great. The winter greens were tasty but were not on vol- au- vent, as indicated on menu but on a piece of toast instead. The lamb merguez sandwich was adequate.
