Co-owner Chef Joe Muench constructed a modern menu drawing inspiration from the early 1960s and Wisconsin Americana.

Updated retro luxury is apparent in the beverage menu, which features a slate of classic cocktails, including The Original Mai Tai, The Aviation, and Buttermint's Old Fashioned on tap. Buttermint’s appetizers feature Crispy Chicken XO, Chickpea Fries, and Fried Calamari.

Our 7-8-9 Happy Hour features $7 Wine Pours, $8 Tap Cocktails, and $9 Appetizers all night Monday and 4-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday!

My wife and I spent our anniversary at Buttermint. We very much enjoyed the modern take on the late 60s era supper club. Each appetizer came out at a leisurely pace, allowing us to savor each choice. The portions of the appetizers could have been a bit larger for the price, but the entrée portions were very appropriate for the money. Best of all was my dessert, the brown butter pie. Easily one of the top desserts I've ever had at a Milwaukee restaurant. The fact that we were allowed to take our time, never felt pressured, and the staff's attention to my wife's nut allergy made the evening a huge win.

Food was very well prepared and plated. Loved the sides that came with the entrees. Four of us each had something different and we were all pleased with our entrees. Portion sizes were large enough that I had leftovers to bring home. I’m fairly picky about my brandy old fashioned and it was the best I’ve had in a long time. Server was friendly and gave us the right amount of attention. Hit the sweet spot of good food, good atmosphere, without being pretentious.

Nice new trendy place to go. Atmosphere was nice . Like a 1970s lunchroom. I ordered the pretzel roll, but had to ask for silverware and napkins. The waitress said she would be taking care of us, we sat outside. I mentioned to the waitress I’ll try the scallops ( never tried them before) she said that she would recommend them highly. Yes they were good but we had to ask another waitress to get our waitress to bring us lemon slices for the scallops. Was disappointed with the service. I’d say 1 out of 10 it’s a 6!! Don’t know if I’d go back.

We would love to hear supper club era music, rather than 60s rock. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, etc. would really make your restaurant a special place from another era. We think even young people who are there would enjoy music from their parents’ time!

The house rolls are exceptional. I had the shrimp linguine and it was terrific, although could have used a touch more sauce. My husband had the short ribs and they were very good. The sangria was excellent, not too sweet and hit the spot. The restaurants cute and the service was excellent.

I chose Buttermint based on other peoples reviews. We liked that parking was easy, our table was ready when we got there, the staff was really friendly and the food was excellent. Some of us had lunch and some had breakfast (we were there around noon). I would definitely recommend! Side note...I don't even like donuts, but you need to get the donut holes!!!

For anyone looking for quality dining in Shorewood, Buttermint hits the mark. I had the short ribs and they were delicious. My partner had the steak and eggs and the steak was very good although the eggs were just ok. I also enjoyed the mai-tai cocktail. The service was excellent and the waiter was attentive yet gave us plenty of time to eat our meal. This is a really great place. We will return for brunch.

this was my first time at Buttermint. I was pleasantly surprised as the food was outstanding. We ordered the Parker rolls (so delicious I could've eaten all of them!) and the deviled eggs for appetizers. Then we ordered three different entrees. My short ribs were so delicious, tender and full of flavor. I will definitely go back for these. We also ordered the shrimp linguine. Yum! the sauce was so flavorful but not overwhelming. The linguine itself was cooked to perfection. The other entree which I did not taste but was told was delicious was the airplane chicken. I assumed it was good as not a crumb was left on the plate. Loved the atmosphere, and the food. Just happy that I finally experienced it! Will definitely be a repeat customer. Also, they have happy hour. great bargains....

The whitefish was delicious, but the potato pancake had too much topping- would have enjoyed a crispy potato pancake with a lot less topping. The broccoli salad was very good

As first time visitors to Buttermint, we were very pleased. Easy to make reservations, good food, and a very nice, comfortable atmosphere. We will definitely return for another visit to sample more of their menu!

Food was average, good but not earth shattering. Was kind of annoyed regarding reservations, we booked a 4 top at 545, then later tried to add on a 5th at the same time, but were told no and that was not possible. Okay fine, I get that if the seats were all chairs, however, we were seated at our table half of which was bench seating, and many other tables had the same exact seating. Why were we told no to adding a 5th person when we easily could have put 1 other person on the bench side? Also, one person from our party arrived early and not one person asked her who she was or if she could be helped or anything, nothing, not a word from anyone as she stood waiting at the host desk.

My boyfriend and I ate outdoors for brunch. It was a beautiful morning and traffic was buzzing and people were walking by, we thought it was great people and vehicle watching! The indoor area was very cool and had a good feel to it. My boyfriend had a Bloody Mary and BLT. I had a spicy margarita cocktail that was on the menu and the eggs Benedict with the pork belly! Everything was delicious! We wish we could share our pictures. Yummy!
