What Insiders Are Saying
Buttermilk Channel is a true Brooklyn Neighborhood Hang serving some of the best fried chicken in town.
Seems the food quality is declining. Have been here many times and each time it gets a little less appealing.
Dinner with family + birthday.
Food was delicious, service was prompt, and atmosphere was cozy. Would go again!
Love this place!
Delicious food, excellent service. We will absolutely be back!
Everyone here is so nice and the food is delicious. It was a great New Year's Eve!
Service was a bit slow, and our server was pretty unenthusiastic and slow to attend to us, but I'm used to this in NYC. In terms of food, we ordered the popovers, sweet potato soup and lamb salad. The soup was incredibly sweet and must have had added sugar/honey in it, as it was literally the sweetest sweet potato soup I've ever tasted. The popovers were interesting in texture, nice and soft, but a bit too salty as they had been sprinkled with large pieces of rock salt (which stuck to the honey) - it would have been better to have the honey/salt on the side in my opinion. The lamb salad was fairly nice. The lamb was very well cooked and fell apart easily, and the cauliflower was nicely roasted, however the salad as a whole was also way too salty. Overall, the food wasn't terrible, but I think the chefs need to tone down the over seasoning, as it could have been great if not for the over sweetening/saltiness.
Best in Brooklyn!
you made my birthday dinner special. thank you
A neighborhood gem with a farm-to-table American menu that never lets us down. Very child-friendly in the early evening, and a great place for dates later in the evening; it manages to be both family-friendly and romantic. The menu changes seasonally, the ingredients are always fresh and there's an emphasis on using local ingredients, including very local fresh pasta, cheese, sausage and other delicacies from the venerable old Italian specialty stores in the area.
Buttermilk Channel is my happy place. Whether I am eating at the bar with a book or dining at a table with friends, there is no other place I would rather eat.
We love thus restaurant! Never disappointed. Good to get there early for dinner because it gets noisier as the night goes on.
Unfortunately both my husband and I got very sick from the food that we had on Saturday evening. We both had the chicken liver mousse and duck meatloaf.
Welcoming, upbeat, smiles and laughter all round, friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, clean, excellent bar. Kitchen was ON POINT! The real deal in Brooklyn!
Great from start to finish!
We shared one appetizer, one main, and one dessert. 2 drinks each. It was $130. Not cheap. But a lovely place. Duck meatloaf is fantastic.
It was our very first time at Butter Milk Channel and we had an amazing dinner and incredible evening there with old friends of ours. The service was as warm and friendly as the ambiance. The room is really lovely at night and filled up with a great mix of people - and even though it got pretty busy, the acoustics are really good so we never had trouble hearing our friends. The food and drinks were over the top good, two of us had the fried chicken and cheddar waffle, their signature dish, it was the best fried chicken any of us had ever tasted. My wife had the warm lamb salad which was mind blowing too. The green goddess salad wasn't what any of us expected but so much better, there wasn't a leaf left when we were done. For dessert we had maple pie sundaes which were amazing and definitely big enough to share.
I have to say it was one of the best dinners out that we've had out in quite some time and to be honest, I was a little nervous going in because most of the reviews I saw were for brunch and I wasn't sure if they had much of a dinner scene. Boy, am I glad we didn't cancel.
All the dishes we tried were great: trout, burger, veggie burger, popovers, french fries. And the service was very attentive and friendly.
Some of the best mussels I have ever had. They had a pork hop special which sounded incredible, but we came for the chicken and waffles!
Buttermilk Channel is cozy neighborhood spot. The Monday night thre
We love Buttermilk Channel! The food is delicious. We started with fresh oysters on the half shell along with their to die for bites of cornbread, pickles and popovers. Salads were delicious too. Then my wife and shared the fried chicken with waffles and the veggie bowl both of which were out of this world. Of i almost forgot the squash tart as an app. Sooo good! Service is super friendly and attentive. A very warm place well worth visiting again and again.
We have been here numerous times and p
Such a warm and wonderful restaurant with a great menu, well-prepared. The fried chicken is the best in town, and they make a legit green goddess salad dressing.
The staff is excellent, charming, and pleasant, and it is a real neighborhood place where people come again and again.
Incredible. I have been here for both brunch and dinner. Everything they make is delicious
Overall I give experience a 3.0 out of 5.0. The desserts are excellent and perfectly balanced. The meats ( Fried chicken and pork chops) are under seasoned. It’s a shame because it was perfectly fried. The coleslaw is outstanding and I love that they use Napa cabbage. Drinks are average and I wish they had an actual bartender tending to drinks.
The servers came off very sarcastic at first and not very welcoming. It was my sisters birthday and when they came out with her dessert and lit candle didn’t even join us or sing Happy Birthday. It was so dry. Eventually the waiters warmed up to us and gave us free almonds and bacon to take home. That was sweet.
Ambiance is warm and I felt like I was in a cottage. Musical choice was lovely and the overall feel was comforting.
I will defiantly go back for dessert and almonds. Please season pork chops more.
Great Restaurant . There's a reason that they are now celebrating it's 10th Anniversary.
Great place and great food. Servers and host were excellent.
Seated next to bar station for pick ups and payment so was a little busy and distracting. The food was all salty and vinegary - possible the best combo for me :) Wild boar ribs were fantastic! Fried chicken was a large portion so I would suggest sharing. All in a great experience and we’ll be back to try more.
Had a business dinner. we were able to talk but the noise level was a bit higher than I would have liked, and the tables were a bit tight. BUT I WILL DEFINATELT GO BACK.
Not a fan of places that don’t offer at least a bday dessert.
good food and decent service. Once we have finished our dinner the waitress was asking, if we want a dessert. We did not want any but used to want to drink a cocktail instead. For our suprising the waitresss was right back with the bill. They want to get rid of you, incase it seems you are not ordering / spending money any more.
In addition it is a very loud location.
Will not come back!
I was very disappointed by the food and the price I had to pay for sub par food. The only thing that I found great about this place was the service.
Ate at the bar and loved every minute of it. We live on the UWS but we’ll be back.
Great food - great service and not nearly as loud as many other places. The pecan pie sundae was particularly good!
I brought my friend there for her birthday. For me it was the 4th time, for her it was the 1st. We were pleased from start to finish with our choices. Our server was friendly and most accommodating. My friend called me the next day to sing the praises of Buttermilk. Since they have a kids menu she's thinking of bringing her grandson there. Bravo.
Can't go wrong with anything on the menu
Great service and lovely atmosphere. Really enjoyed my food. Excellent.
So. Incredibly. Lovely. Great fried chicken, the trout was cooked perfectly, and the music was EVERYTHING!
