Southern
Nationally recognized chef Jason Santos’ Buttermilk and Bourbon delivers Southern hospitality to guests in the heart of the Back Bay.

Drawing on the South’s trademark charm, the restaurant offers a vibrant, cozy atmosphere with an innovative American menu featuring Southern-influences. Santos, who currently owns and operates Boston’s Abby Lane and Back Bay Harry’s, channels his love of New Orleans and all things Southern to transport guests to the Bayou by way of Buttermilk & Bourbon.

Guests can enjoy pork belly cracklings; BBQ Shrimp; house-made biscuits; oyster chowder; crispy boudin; and house-fried chicken served either Southern-style, Nashville-style, or with sweet and spicy or white BBQ sauce. An oyster bar will also serve up a variety of local oysters as well as peel & eat shrimp. Buttermilk and Bourbon serves up hurricanes-on-tap, large-batch cocktails, and a selection of bourbon-based drinks.

The restaurant is lovely and the food is both creative and delicious. The tapas style allowed us to have more dishes than usual which was a treat.

The dining area can get very loud which was not as fun. Loved the experience overall.

We had a great experience at Buttermilk & Bourbon. The food was delicious. We shared about 7 plates between 5 of us- our favorite was the pork special and the fried chicken thighs. Our server was great, I highly recommend this spot for any occasion!

Miriah took great care of us! Buttermilk was recommended to us by a friend and we were blown away by the food and drinks! The sorbet mimosa was so much fun, and we're still talking about the brie. We'll definitely be back for dinner!

Awesome dinner! Food was simply amazing! Very flavorful and out of this world! The biscuits and New Orleans BBQ shrimp left us speechless! We’re from CA and before we left tonight we booked one more reservation. We have to eat here again before going home.

Service was excellent. Our waitress was informative, helpful, and attentive. The food was out of this world delicious! The menu was very well crafted with creative and delicious options. Will 100% be back. Also was a huge fan of how all of the plates were shareable portions so we got to try a couple of different items.

The restaurant was very cozy and had good food. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because they served very undercooked chicken thighs, they were still raw on the inside. However, our host apologized and tried to resolve this issue as efficiently as possible. All the other food was delicious, especially the biscuits.

The BEST! I can not wait to go back and try more dishes. Everything we ordered was so flavorful, delicious and perfectly cooked and presented. Our waitress recommended the biscuits we started with those and they were to die for...so soft and sweet. Then we shared the Fried chicken sliders, the BBQ Shrimp and the Short Rib Dumplings. We were stuffed but couldn't stop eating because it was so darn good. The ambiance was great too...really felt like a French Quarter/New Orleans vibe. definitely recommend and will be back.

The food was outstanding. We started out with the warm honey glazed biscuits that were simply incredible. We then had he duck confit, the coffee crusted baby back ribs, and the lobster mac and cheese. None disappointed. The lobster mac was "unlike anything (my husband) ever had." The plates are small, somewhat tapas style, which is great since you can order a couple different plates per person so you get to experience more dishes which is awesome. The beignets were great, though they were a bit heavier than typical beignets at first, but as they were piping hot, after sitting a few minutes to cool, they seemed to lighten up to a more typical fluffy texture. And the strawberry bread pudding was great, coming from someone who doesn't like bread pudding. The cocktails were good, though a touch sweeter than we tend to like. But certainly not so sweet that we didn't enjoy them. While we like Abby Lane (Chef Santos' other restaurant), Buttermilk and Bourbon takes it to a whole new level.

Everything is delicious and reasonably priced for tapas in the city! While I loved the fried chicken sliders, buffalo style street corn, and honey biscuits very much, the soft serve of the day in a pretzel cone and beignets stole my heart! Can’t wait to come back.

I really enjoyed it. I only wish the servings were larger and that the meal came with sides, which made the ordering a little tricky and confusing. I also wish they had explained the difference between the two seating choices because I would have picked standard seating in retrospect, but it was still wonderful.

This was a unique and wonderful brunch experience!
The food......Duck Hash with Crispy Poached Eggs and the Chicken and Waffles were absolutely delicious!
If you would like a new and interesting take on brunch definitely try this place!

Lovely- my boyfriend has a severe nut allergy and the server was very accommodating. The food was great, we had the fried chicken thighs, lobster macaroni and cheese and coffee crusted ribs. Highly recommend this place as a way to celebrate a special occasion or anniversary. Will be returning soon!

I am from Tennessee so I know good southern cooking. I would like the restaurant to add more sides to make their menu more complete (like, can you say "fried okra"?). Other than that, the fried chicken and many of the other items are a hit!!

I have to say, out of all the restaurants I've been to in Boston, this one takes the cake.

It was my first time trying out this restaurant and my Fiancée and I were celebrating our 2 year anniversary. As soon as I walked into the restaurant, waiters greeted me at the door to seat me. The service was superb and the food hit the spot. At the end of our meal, a waitress came over and completely swept us off our feet. She placed a sherbert dish with two candles in it and said, "this is just something to celebrate your anniversary." The waitress looked at my fiancée and said, "we noticed you liked lemonade so we gave you a strawberry lemonade sherbert to celebrate." This brought tears to her eyes of course because she values when people pay attention to details.
This was the best anniversary I've had and Buttermilk & Bourbon made the night truly special.

Amazing southern inspired food. But does not fill you up after 3 bites like most southern comfort food. Still plenty of calories, if you count, but well masked with robust flavor. Relaxed and inviting ambience and friendly staff complete the experience. Innovative cocktails, too.

Went for a date night service was great I was running 15 minutes late and they still accommodate my reservation. The food comes out fast, but the portions are small so I would definitely recommend getting an appetizer. Seating was very close to others which was a negative for me, also not too comfortable.
My boyfriend had the fried chicken sliders he said the chicken was cooked perfect but would had liked a little more sauce!
I had the octopus and I’ll say it was Amazing the octopus was cooked perfectly!
We had the biscuits and corn to share which was perfect & just enough for both of us.
Biscuits were awesome nice & soft & thick just wish the butter spreads where a little warmer (they were very cold & stiff didn’t spread well)
Street corn was delicious!, I’m still thinking about them today lol!
