Buttermilk & Bourbon
Drawing on the South’s trademark charm, the restaurant offers a vibrant, cozy atmosphere with an innovative American menu featuring Southern-influences. Santos, who currently owns and operates Boston’s Abby Lane and Back Bay Harry’s, channels his love of New Orleans and all things Southern to transport guests to the Bayou by way of Buttermilk & Bourbon.
Guests can enjoy pork belly cracklings; BBQ Shrimp; house-made biscuits; oyster chowder; crispy boudin; and house-fried chicken served either Southern-style, Nashville-style, or with sweet and spicy or white BBQ sauce. An oyster bar will also serve up a variety of local oysters as well as peel & eat shrimp. Buttermilk and Bourbon serves up hurricanes-on-tap, large-batch cocktails, and a selection of bourbon-based drinks.
Need to book at 7:00 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
The brunch was to die for. Easy to share small plates. Would definitely go back.
Amazing food not amazing service
Wow! This is not just a restaurant; it's an experience. The food is really unique, creative and outstanding. The biscuits are the best I have ever had. The pancake and banana french toast are both delicious. Highly recommend.
My husband and I enjoyed sharing three items - we went with everything starting with a "B" - Buttermilk fried chicken thighs, Beets, and Biscuits. Each item was fantastic! We were sorry we had no room left for dessert - Beignets!
Great food and great atmosphere! Food prices are reasonable, drinks are a bit expensive for the size ~$12-16 for a small glass
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Buttermilk and Bourbon. Very cool atmosphere, awesome food and service! Highly recommend!
Fantastic place. Order a bunch of things and SHARE!......
This place is the best. Everything we had was amazing.
Best dining experience we had in Boston! Jonathon was funny and professional. The atmosphere was awesome and the food even better!
Extremely noisy, so not a good place to go for conversation. The food is at best mediocre and the meat dishes contain very little meat and a lot of sauce and grains. They were out of some of the bourbon on their menu. The wait staff was friendly and attentive and the fried dough dessert was delicious.
Amazing food, excellent service, super fun atmosphere- I cannot wait to go back!!
Had a lovely dinner here! Have already recommended this point to friends and coworkers.
Loved the food and the place. Only problem was noisy room!
Brunch is fun here. It is reasonably priced- we ordered so many side dishes because we wanted to try everything. I had the grits which were really solid. The pepper potatoes everyone loved. Waitstaff was helpful and the food came out pretty quick. The best part is the ambiance.
The food was amazing!
I love the food and I love the soft served mimosas
I can’t believe the good review I’m giving this, but the food was really that good. What was NOT so good was the, I swear, chewed up piece of gum stuck to my plate that was revealed when I picked up by napkin. The server wasn’t that shocked...she just “that’s gross” and removed my plate. Also the menus were filthy. But, other than the first dish which was lukewarm, the food was fantastic. Low country scramble, biscuits, hash, flatbread, beignets, etc were all fantastic. I’d go back but I really wish they would care about cleanliness. Maybe this is their idea of a NOLA vibe? Server was pretty good but not super attentive
This is a great place for intimate celebrations. The food was delightful, I ordered the shrimp and grits. I will definitely visit again soon.
Food was delicious
Food was great
The interior, especially the dining room, is very, very loud. So loud that it's hard to hear the person across from you. It's a bare brick basement--they need to do something about acoustics like installing sound-deadening panels somewhere. I would have really enjoyed myself if I could have heard my partner talking. As it was, my ears actually hurt sitting in there. The food was very good and our server was really nice and attentive.
Great spot tucked away on Commonwealth. The food was delicious! Small plates of feel good food!
Food was good and tasty - a bit to heavy for me -would be good on a winters night. Wait staff were mediocre.
Everything was amazing 💕 the Alligator meatbals were fantastic. We were only town for a few days but would eat here all the time if we lived here.
Tapas Southern food concept works. Dishes we tasty, albeit a little salty for my palate. The beignets with side order of ice were awesome so definitely leave some room. Will go back.
Food was excellent - the fried chicken with waffle had a delicious, thin batter. Granola excellent with puffed quinoa (V interesting!). Steak tartare so so delicious. Service v attentive and not rushed.
Amazing biscuits and fried chicken. A good bourbon selection, but not the best in town. The small plates are actually good sized, so the value, especially for the back bay, is incredible. The back room is super loud, a small brick hallway so noise amplifies.
Excellent service and food, was happy to bring a friend for her first time. However, there was a large party seated in our dining room who were disruptively loud. This was my first time having a complaint about my experience. Hopefully that loud group was just a singularly excited group of brunch goers.
Delicious and unique food options, and such a cool experience. The interior is very well decorated. They have great weekend specials. The service was so nice as well!
Inside was really noisy, but we were lucky to get a spot out on the patio. Our server was fantastic and attentive. Food was great... especially the roasted oysters. We also had Mac & cheese, alligator meatballs and Nashville hot chicken (super moist and hot!). My one complaint might be the cushioned chairs on the patio sitting really low... I felt like I needed a booster seat through the whole meal. We will definitely be back!
Excellent! Best craft cocktail and every plate was fabulous!
The food was great, they had just changed the menu for the fall. I highly recommend the Ahi. This is a great place to sit and share with a friend. The servings are moderate in size so that you order more than one item. Between my friend and I we ordered the beet salad, pork loin, ahi, and biscuits. Then for dessert we had beignets...yummy!!! We will definitely go back.
Definitely a restaurant I’ll be frequenting again. Invited some out of town guests and everyone had a great time. All of the small plates and desserts were delicious
Great food and drinks!
The biscuits and fried chicken are standouts! Also enjoyed the mac & cheese and the tomato toast very much.
The food was so good! Best Mac and cheese and biscuits!! Great bourbon selection as well!
Easily a Boston favorite.
The food was amazing and it allowed you to sample all of the wonderful food items on their menu. The service and atmosphere was perfect and is highly recommended for a date night.
Had been wanting to go here for a long time. The muffins were a spectacular start. The dishes were bigger than most Tapas, but still on the small side. There were open tables that night and the service was still slower than it should have been. The main seating area is a small, cramped space with a few tables stuck in the middle of a loud brick room. Definitely opt to sit outside if it's warm enough. The food was very savory and flavorful, especially the sausage potato and the mac&cheese. The dessert was disappointing. Overall a positive experience, but had hoped for more.
It was great. Took the family and everyone got to share the plates.
