Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

I've wanted to stop in here for a while, as I've heard how good of a burger they have. It did not disappoint. My wife got the fancy chicken sandwich, perfectly cooked and had the right combo of spice and sweet in the sauce. Fries were perfect. We also had perogies (such a nice creamy filling with a light crisp on the shell) and French onion soup (excellent, with a bit of a kick). We certainly will be back to try other things on the menu. Service was excellent, we even commented that it must be fun to be a server at a restaurant that had excellent food, as our server (I apologize but forget his name) definitely seemed to love the place.

Butterjoint is a neighborhood treasure-- but even if it weren't in our neighborhood, we'd still eat there often. Tim, the host, is wonderfully hospitable. The waitstaff is courteous and capable. The bar offerings are imaginative and delicious. And the food is excellent and well presented.

Excellent drinks. If you're adventuresome, order the Bartender's choice (or surprise, or whatever it's called) and let the bartender choose for you. Burger, crispy chicken sandwich, and greens salad with salmon on top -- all good, though the salmon was unremarkable in flavor. Desserts: vinegar pie with ice cream, root beer float, and Basque cheesecake -- all good, except the crust of the cheesecake was burned to carbon and was inedible, rendering about 1/3 of the serving a waste.. And, no, that's not how it's supposed to be. The waitress took it off the bill, so that was good.

We decided to give the Butterjoint’s new brunch a try and it was a fantastic decision. Everyone in our party loved their dishes, the drink were great and the service was great! I would 110% recommend Butterjoint for brunch or dinner. We will be back sooner than later.

The staff and customer service is wonderful. The food is very well prepared and satisfying. I’d like to see a little more variety and imagination in the menu-the skill is clearly there. The cocktails are given as much care as the food. The bakery items and breads are stars.

This was our first visit to Butterjoint. The server was knowledgeable, the beer selection was good and the food was exceptional. Our table ordered the burgers, veggie burgers and perogies. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back.
