Butterjoint
But before this new concept is unveiled, we’ll be doing a series of dinners in the same location called “Butterjoint Test Kitchen.” You can make reservations by calling 412-621-2700 Monday-Friday, 10am-5pm, or by emailing lauren@butterjoint.com. For more details, please go to www.butterjoint.com.
Legume will live on through daily specials at Butterjoint All Day, events in the community, and special dinners.
Thank you for being on this journey with us.
Trevett and Sarah
Everyone should support Butterjoint especially during these difficult times. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and hopefully will be included regularly on the new menu. The lemon-poppy seed sorbet was deliciously refreshing. Great cocktails and wonderful service as usual. We will look forward to many wonderful meals for years to come.
We love the makeover—it’s dynamic, witty and beautiful. People are the same:skilled and charming.
Butterjoint has a really nice vibe. Menu was well rounded but only has one vegetarian option at this time. They are building a new menu. Food was very good, portions not too large. A nice relaxed environment where you didn't have to talk over the music. Can't wait to see how their menu develops over the next few months!
We live a block away and try to come once a month but most times it’s hard, with a larger venue and the ability to make a reservation (could not do before) it made the experience much better. The food is never a disappointment.
Saturday, February 29, 2020, sadly was the last night of service for Legume as it existed. Happily it will reopen soon with an exciting new concept. Much "heart" and "love" was always a part of this fantastic restaurant by owners Trevett and Sarah Hooper. They put thought into every aspect of the business and it always showed.
Everyone should go online and sign up for Sarah's beautifully descriptive newsletters to get a better understanding of their philosophy and vision for the future.
Simply the best restaurant for Farm to Table food. We were visiting the University of Pittsburgh and tried this gem. Being foodies we are very fussy, but this place was amazing!
Final dinner was fabulous with a joyous meal with friends. Food and service both extraordinary as usual. Looking forward to butterjoint experience.
The best and most interesting restaurant in Pittsburgh, the one that led the dining renaissance in town, is no more. Legume served its last meal on Saturday evening, a wonderful and also heartbreaking event. Pittsburgh will probably never see its like again, but fifteen years is a long time in a restaurant's life. The Hoopers are preparing something new for the space, merging Legume into the simply-wonderful Butterjoint. It's very hard to imagine anything replacing Legume, but if it's possible that couple will do it. RIP, Legume, and God bless the new effort.
So sad that Legume will not be Legume anymore. It was our go to place!
Thanks for letting our fifth friend cone to eat with us, you are my pittsburgh favorite, and i will be dropping be to test future offerings. Thanks for all the great meals under the legume rubric. Gloriana, the wheel chair lady
Very good food! We had a gift card so that’s why we decided to go, but we’re happy we did! I had the half a chicken, and my boyfriend had the lamb shank. Both were really great dishes.
Love the vegan and vegetarian options.
The wait to be seated was a little long even with reservations, but the host offered a glass of wine during the wait which was a nice touch.
Wonderful. Great establishment with delicious food. We’ll miss Legume!
The menu on the night we dined was extremely limited, with no salads or green vegetables among the selections. The service seemed incompetent: We had just gotten our appetizers and had just begun enjoying them when the entree arrived--we felt that this was inappropriate. The food itself was "ok."
Wow, it was our first time and it was amazing. Outstanding, awesome service. Excellent food.
I’m sorry to see Legume close - the food has always been excellent. I am looking forward to trying their new venture when it opens.
Excellent food and friendly service as always!
Server seemed allot and not interested in us
There was also a large birthday party with numerous kids that were very noisy
Compared to previous visits something was amiss
Legume is one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. Great service and their scallops are amazing!
Fantastic food and fantastic service. Extremely sad to see this place close down
It is our most favorite restaurant in the city to go to: the cob salad need more buttermilk dressing to bring out the flavor of the greens in the fob salad. The rest of our food was exquisite. Looking forward to their new venue.
Visiting before they close!
We wanted to enjoy Legume one last time before the space transitions to Butterjoint All Day. The meal did not disappoint. My wife had the mushroom risotto with scallops, and she commented that it may have been the best risotto she has ever had in a restaurant. I had the cassoulet, which has long been hailed as one of Legume's finest dishes...and with good reason. Smooth and creamy beans, lots of duck confit, and some sausage and bacon for contrast. For dessert my wife had the black walnut cake, something she grew up with but hasn't had for years. I had the chocolate truffle cake. Both were superb.
The good news for Pittsburgh diners is that Butterjoint All Day will include some of Legume's classic dishes. So next winter...I'll be able to get my fix of cassoulet!
Beautiful setting. Great service from everyone. Welcoming and appropriately attentive. The food is really tasty! I would come back.
One of our favorite restaurants. Can’t wait to see what the transformation will bring in a couple months!
Great food but everything running behind the night we went. Waitress didn’t know we were her table until we stopped a staff member to ask if we had a waiter. Polite and apologetic after that and again, excellent food
Arrived on time for 7:15 reservations. Seated about 20 minutes later. Order taken immediately with no pleasantries. Apps took about 20 minutes. Entree arrived at 8:50 after a long wait with no staff contact, drinks, bread, or anything. At $220 for a party of three I expect much better. Actually, I've had better service at noodles and company Closing soon, but supposedly reopening with the same menu but different concept. We won't be back.
I will miss Legume in its current incarnation, however I cannot wait for Butterjoint All Day!
Very Good food, very unrushed, close to slow, pricey
Too bad your are closing, though — although we look forward to butterjoint all day! I’m sure it will be great!
Excellent food. Glad to enjoy this restaurant before their remodel.
As always, the food, service and wine were excellent!
We were glad we had the opportunity to dine at Legume one last time before the owners made the change to a new concept. The food was delicious as we remembered. The hosts recommended we go to Butterjoint for a cocktail as we were about 15 minutes early for our reservation...assuring us they would hold the table. We both liked our cocktails and the bar was busy.
Our food was great as we noted above. Beef tartare perfectly prepared, wedge salad a little over dressed but tasty. I had the cassolette and my dining partner the salmon. Both mains were well prepared and balance.
Our only issue was the service. Apparently we confused her with a more conversational versus transactional interaction. Meaning she just wanted "the facts" and was apparently confused by our discussion. This resulted in the wrong wine being served with the tartare (quickly fixed by the bar) and instead of sharing a salad, we each received a full one (a $13 mistake- not the end of the world but those on a budget would probably be upset.)
Sad to see this place exit the Pittsburgh food scene but interested to see what comes next.
outstanding food, drinks, and service (thanks jess and tim and jade)! ❤️ legume as it exists has always been a fave. excited for the next adventure with you all!
Too bad the restaurant is changing. I am trying to be optimistic about the new arrangement, but am disappointed that Legume as it is now will no longer be. I have always liked their food philosophy and creative expressions of dishes. With a larger restaurant and more hours, I feel those key values may get lost.
Bring back scones to new Pie For Breakfast Bakeshop. They were the best scones in the city.
Seated by the kitchen with a 7pm reservation. Restaurant was full of large tables. Noisy. Not good for conversation. Disappointing compared to prior experiences.
Wonderful meal and ambiance
I love this restaurant. It has the character of a neighborhood bistro with great and imaginative food, and a thoughtful, not cookie cutter wine list.
This was my second visit and I enjoyed it immensely again. The service was again excellent and the food was again delicious. The portions are fairly generous. The space is beautiful. It was quite loud and I'm wondering if they could do with an acoustic consultant to see if the acoustics could be improved at all. Overall a fantastic experience and highly recommended.
Friends and I have a tradition--cassoulet on a Monday to take advantage of the no corkage fee and to have the amazing cassoulet that couldn't be better no matter where it is served. The first bite after penetrating that breadcrumb and duckfat layer is swoon-worthy. Really minor tweak could be to make sure the dish is piping hot--it's worth the wait to cool before consuming. Can't wait till next year.
Legume was overall good. The appetizers were really creative and well done. Good bar menu. My only issue was that the risotto was very overcooked. Otherwise everything was great.
