This place is great! I go there for every anniversary. The service and food is phenomenal!
dinner for 4. Three of us ordered steak medium rare, one wanted medium well. The medium well was very rare. Too rare for my friend. They took the steak back and threw it back on the grill instead of bringing a new steak. Brought it back...........STILL RARE. Another offer to throw back on the grill. My friend just took it to go and would microwave it later. The other three means were good but how hard is it to get a medium well steak? No offer of discount or free desert .....nothing. Disappointed in management.
Good menu choices. Terrific service. Comfortable seating and we lingered, talking & there was no attempt to hurry us.
This was our first visit to this restaurant. Very nice ambience of a typical steakhouse. Very attentive service. Excellent value as the meal comes with a choice of soup or salad and a starch or vegetable. We all had the prime rib which was cooked to order and very good. We celebrated a birthday and enjoyed a complimentary piece of cheesecake. We will definitely be back.
This was our first time at this restaurant after living in San Diego for over 40 years and it did not disappoint! We had one little glitch with an over cooked steak but they took care of it with no problem. The bet part was that they also take the Passport Card (big savings!) We definitely will go back again.
The food at The Butcher Shop is always spot on!! It definitely one of our favorite places.
It is a somewhat more expensive that other places we go, but it worth every penny we pay for it.
Everything was good. Nothing to write home about but good.
This was my second time at the Butcher Shop. As with the first the food was very good and presented extremely well. The style is what I would call old classic with a lot of beautiful hardwood.
The ambience was nice but there was some distraction with another table had an infant that continue to cry loudly throughout the entire time we were there. I would have thought That the restaurant will have seated families with children in a separate dining area from adults especially couples.
All in all it was a great evening and experience and I will probably be back.
Had family in town and had a great dinner.
Food was excellent, prime rib outstanding, steak cooked just right . . . service okay. Value very good for the excellent food.
Great old school steakhouse.!
The service was excellent up to the time our dinner plates were cleared. It was busy, and we waited, and waited for our server to introduce the dessert menu. After taking our dessert order, we waiting an unreasonable amount of time for our dessert to be served. An embarrassing disappointment end for a friend's birthday. :(
Went to celebrate anniversary room kept filling up with more people sat a party of 7 next to us. Steak had to be sent back not cooked right service so disappointed not going back to a while very disappointed
I had the chicken piccata dishes, chicken good, very tender, vegetables were over cooked, mushy. The other two in party had sandwiches from the value menu. The sandwiches were big, also came with salad and side. The side of vegetables with sandwich was also left untouched. But good value over all as each sandwiche order took half a sandwich home.
Food was excellent, great service, cozy atmosphere.
always love a meal here before the theater; in and out on time, table always ready, service excellent, and like in 'Cheers' - they always know your name!
We did show up, and enjoyed it very much. Not sure why the restaurant didn’t check us in, I got a message saying that we weren’t there
Great food ... always great food ... and very reasonable wine prices. Highly recommend!
As usual it was very nice ...Good service n good food..unfortunately we were seated under the AC fan n made it uncomfortable..Too cold...
Arrived early than our reservation but they sat us right away. Food was delicious as usual. Service was very good and attentive in the beginning but slowed considerably when the dinner rush was in full swing. Our dinner here took 2 full hours. The last 30 minutes was waiting for dessert and the check. We’d still be back but just allow extra time if you have anything planned after dinner.
A little less than average service. Waitress a little bit distracted. Food is great. Classic building.
Great place. Good value for money. meat was superb. You can skip dessert
We absolutely love this restaurant and have always gotten great service and wonderful food. The bartender was delightful and the drinks we wonderful. Not a every night type of place but exceptional for special occasions or when you just want to soak in the atmosphere. We were celebrating my husbands birthday and everything was perfect.
We were a little disappointed since we were expecting a little bit more of the Chicago-style ambiance of an old time steak house. Experience was just "ok". Food was good just not special and service was just ok, nothing special. Afterwards, realizing we were in San Diego we wish we would have opted for a seafood restaurant instead. Oh well.
We all had beef of some sort. Potato skin appetizer was fair, too much potato so they weren’t at all crispy. Porterhouse was very average as was prime rib. Beef tenderloin medallions with blue cheese was good as was lava cake dessert. Wine list was shockingly limited for a steakhouse at this price point. Only 5 or 6 Cabernet Sauvignon on the list and it topped out with a low end Stags Leap. Service was great and ambiance very appropriate for an old school steak house.
One of the best meals we have had there. PerfectPrime Rib and Top Sirloin. One of my favorite places to go service was perfect
Delightful evening. Retro 50’s environment good good. Reasonable prices
Love this place. The staff is very friendly. The food is great.
This is a great place. Great and friendly staff. Great food and drinks
We have dined at the Butcher Shop several times before while visiting San Diego. It has become one of our favorites. We were in town so chose the Butcher Shop to celebrate Valentine's Day and had another wonderful dinner. We had shrimp cocktail starters, my husband had the soup and I had the spinach salad. Then for dinner we enjoyed melt-in-your-mouth filets accompanied by perfectly prepared vegetables. For desert we chose the mixed berries atop a decadent cream sauce. The service was second to none and on a VERY busy evening; the quality of food was top notch; and the price very reasonable.
We love the ambiance of the red leather booths contrasted against the rich dark stain of the walls, white linens and ornate lighting. THE BUTCHER SHOP IS "A REAL GEM"!!
As always butcher shop was excellent...Service n good is good
Old school Chicago-style steakhouse is one of our favorites in San Diego. Prime rib melts in your mouth.
Waitress was rude and I didn’t appreciate her service on such a special night
Very nice, great food and fairly inexpensive!
Valentine’s Day dinner was exquisite! Service was exceptional.
Valentine’s Day dinner
Wonderful experience all around! The waitress was very tentative. Food hot and fresh as always. Drinks are amazing.
The service here was outstanding, the food was really good as usual. The steak was overcooked per how I ordered it, but it was still delicious. Will definitely return again.
It was my husband’s birthday and it was our first time at your restaurant.. service and food were awesome! Too bad that your prices are on the expensive side so only for special occasions would we be back...
Our server Elsa had a nice personality, and was quite conversant with the menu and knowledgeable about the preparations each dish. The port wine sauce/bleu cheese combo on the beef was amazing- should have saved some bread to get it all! The pasta primavera exceeds expectations. Instead of swimming in a cream sauce with tiny unidentifiable bits of veggies, this was delicately seasoned fettuccine with tiny tender spring vegetables. Lovely ambiance, especially the fireplace, molding, beams, photos. The tables (in the front room, at least, were close and others’ conversations were inescapable. Good music selections
