First time here and my wife and I loved it! We were celebrating our anniversary and planned to have a drink at the bar first since it was still Happy Hour. We decided to have our dinner at the bar because we loved the bartender - old school, great service, great conversationalist, a real gentleman - and knew how to make a Perfect Martini. Because we changed from a table to the bar we thought the restaurant would forget it was our anniversary - they didn't and surprised us with a cheesecake and a $20 off our next visit. Because of this, I am planning to take my wife there for her birthday...and many more times in the future. By the way, the food was fantastic!
The service from our waitress was beyond exceptional. The food was ok but not fully worth the price tag. The sorbet had freezer burn and I unfortunately found rubber lining from the sorbet container in the scoop I had ordered, after I had started eating and chewing on it.
Great for a date night with husband/wife. You can actually visit without shouting. The food is great, alone with a relaxing environment. Service is good, though it wouldn't hurt to inject a little personality along with that service. We are regular customers at the Butcher Shop.
The waitress made the evening. She was very professional and attentive to all details of the night. The host sat us at a very small table and gave a twosome the booth which should not have happened. All in all we would return as the meal and environment were outstanding
Our wait staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. Excellent meal, possibly the best price chop I've ever had. Everything, from appetizers, main course, and deserts were excellent. I hadn't been to this location for many years, but will certainly be back again.
My rack ol lamb was overlooked I asked for medium rare and was almost well done. The prior time here I had the halibut which was also overlooked and dry I still like the place Very friendly staff very good soups salads and sides. Corkage is only $12. Guess I have learned my lesson and will stick with the steaks in the future After all it is a steak house
Have used The Butcher Shop on a couple of recent occasions for business lunches. There are not a lot of great options in the Kearny Mesa area and The Butcher Shop fits the bill for the right clients.
It is truly "old school", with subdued lighting, red leather booths and a beefy menu. Probably not the best option for a light lunch or a group looking for a healthy, green meal. But if your group likes solid steak, prime rib and chop options for lunch in the mid-County area, this may be your spot.
Wait staff is attentive and helpful. Interior is quiet and makes for good private conversations. Portions are solid. Offerings are traditional and done well. I would comment that the exterior is a bit underwhelming, and the surrounding neighborhood does not speak to an upscale experience, but this place is a little hidden gem.
Nice atmosphere although it seemed a bit 1980's New York. Very dark old fashioned decor. A make over would be advisable. Noticed many seniors but not many under 50, this is normally the sign of the death of a restaurant. Smell of old carpet not a plus. Food was ok but overpriced for the quality. Halibut was dry and uninspired, meatloaf was disappointing. Marie Calender's at best at but double the price.
I love this place but I have to admit we felt like we are being rushed tonight maybe the waitress had a date. I was a little taken back when they charge 3:45 for soda water out of the gun. But all in all the place is great we'll definitely go back can't judge the place on one off night
Arrived early for my reservation and was welcomed with excellent service. The deal cakes were a hit and the spinach salad was with the walnuts were delicious. We ordered the ribeye and New York Strip. Cooked to order. Serve was spot on. Would recommend to all m y friends.
This place harkens back to when food and service were served together. We ordered wine by the glass - which was reasonably priced. The meal started with ahi tartar - which was a hit. Our main dishes came with choice of soup or salad and garlic toast - if you choose salad, try the house dressing (a vinaigrette and blue cheese blend). Our mains, the bone-in ribeye and filet mignon, were cooked to order and included a baked potato - delicious! To finish the meal, the Key lime pie was an amazing dessert. Our server was friendly, timely, and set the tone for the evening - a casual, comfortable familiarity. I’ll be back - the food is fantastic, and they make you feel like a star!
Can never say enough about how gracious they are here. I was on the way to the airport and stopped for a quick late lunch and they were fabulous. Got my favorite table, Maria was spot on with getting our order in and food to us. Food was great and a great deal for their lunch menu ($13 for a full lunch, can't beat it). Try it yourself!
Always loved this place but it's really getting run down. The bathrooms have a sewer smell that comes into the entryway. The entryway awning was torn off so it looks a bit unclassy. I love that they had half-price wine and the food is decently priced for what you get but the rooms are really loud and the seats are starting to become very uncomfortable and it was cold.
We had dinner for our 30th wedding anniversary, it was a special night out for us. We live in Laguna Hills, and the butcher shop made our night a very enjoyable dinner for two. Our waiter was wonderful and her service was excellent. we would recommend others to try the Butcher Shop. We will return again the next time we are in San Diego. Again Thanks for the service and dinner.
